Colin Trevorrow Talks Producing ‘Deep Cover,’ the Return of ‘Jurassic World’ and Star Wars Detachment
Image
Colin Trevorrow has his eye on the next generation of filmmakers.

After shepherding his Jurassic World trilogy to the box-office tune of nearly $4 billion worldwide, the filmmaker turned his attention to his production banner, Metronome Film Company. Trevorrow’s mission is to create opportunities for up-and-coming filmmakers in the same way that Steven Spielberg once did for him on 2015’s Jurassic World.

“Because I’ve had some success in my career, my absolute top priority is not just paying it forward, but also being able to introduce new talent to move us forward,” Trevorrow tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We don’t have farm teams in Hollywood, and I think that it’s a responsibility of filmmakers to identify who’s next. A lot of these icons that we have now were identified by another filmmaker, and that’s something I would love to have on my record.”

Around 15 years ago,...

Grease | Fundraising starts for new documentary feature
Image
Life After Grease is a new documentary catching up with those involved in the much-loved 1970s musical feature. And it needs your help!

Filmmaker Lisa Downs has gradually been building up quite the collection of movie nerd documentaries. She’s made Life After Flash, Life After The Navigator and Life After The Neverending Story to date, where she tracks down those involved in Flash Gordon, Flight Of The Navigator and The Neverending Story and brings their stories up to date.

Her next project? Life After Grease, which – as the title suggests – sees her talking to those involved in the movie, and capturing their stories. She’s already got Grease director Randal Kleiser involved, and has filmed interviews with assorted members of the cast and crew.

There are still some interviews to capture, and the film to edit into shape, and so Lisa – as an independent filmmaker – has launched a Kickstarter...

Mads Mikkelsen Joins Voice Cast of ‘Snow Queen’ Inspired Animated Adventure ‘North’ (Exclusive)
Image
Mads Mikkelsen has joined the voice cast of the animated feature “North,” which is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen.” The film is being sold in Cannes by Studio 100 Film, and will be screened on May 13 in the Marché du Film.

The film centers on Gerda, who sets off into the great unknown in search of her friend Kai, who has mysteriously vanished. On her journey, Gerda makes friends with people, birds, beasts, and a kind witch, unaware that a hostile, unseen enemy – the Snow Queen and her devil apprentice, Louie – is watching her. The evil queen keeps Kai prisoner in her ice palace way up north in Finnmark, Norway.

Mikkelsen will lend his voice to the character of Severin, the father of Kai. Severin is a figure who “embodies wisdom, sorrow and the timeless magic of storytelling,” according to a statement. As a carpenter,...

5 movies to watch if you love Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Image
As the latest Star Wars TV show, Skeleton Crew, comes to an end, you might be feeling nostalgic for the 1980s. The series takes a lot of inspiration from movies from this decade and re-purposes them to fit into the galaxy far, far away. Skeleton Crew is about a bunch of misfit kids who find something strange in the woods and go on the adventure of a lifetime. It's a classic '80s story. If there had been a Star Wars live-action TV show around the time of the original trilogy, it may well have looked like this.

If you're looking for more of the same after Skeleton Crew, then you're in luck, as there's a huge number of movies available to plug the gap left by this show. They'll get you feeling nostalgic over bike rides, summer holidays, and amazing adventures with friends.

The Goonies - Why celebrate the...

Landman Season 1, Episode 9 Review: Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Tells the Story
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Landman Season 1, Episode 9, "WolfCamp," now streaming on Paramount+.

Landman Season 1, Episode 9, "WolfCamp," is the penultimate episode of the season... and it's very much written that way. Every step is made with the intent of setting up future story for the season finale and a potential Season 2. That means the episode is great at laying pipe for what's coming, but not so satisfying as a standalone hour of viewing.

"WolfCamp" reveals the fallout from Monty Miller's heart attack, but the bulk of screen time is devoted to happenings in and around the Norris family. Tommy and Angela butt heads, while Cooper develops a plan for his and Ariana's future. And ironically, the most random and seemingly forced part of the episode -- a cameo by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones -- is effective at communicating the message of not just this one story, but the whole show.

Skeleton Crew serves up pirate action and '80s nostalgia with its enjoyable opening episodes
Image
Being a Star Wars fan in the 2020s can feel like you need Jyn Erso constantly reminding you that "Fandoms are built on hope!" For every good show like Andor, there's an Acolyte, and for every project that gets made, there are at least two that were announced and have now disappeared without a trace.

So when it came to Skeleton Crew, I wasn't sure what to make of it. Coming out in the wake of The Acolyte, the first trailer didn't impress me much, but I have to admit, since then the marketing has gotten my hopes up. Maybe the show could be good. Nothing groundbreaking, maybe, but still good.

This show's influences have been well documented, so I've set myself the challenge of writing this review without comparing it to a certain 1985 movie starring Sean Astin and Josh Brolin. Even with that restriction, there are plenty of movies...

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Review: The Galaxy Far, Far Away Gets An Amblin-Inspired Revamp For Kids
Image
"Star Wars" is for kids. Wait, scratch that. "Star Wars" has always been for kids. Fans of a certain age and temperament might want to take that statement as an insult (or even an attack) on their favorite movies, but it's a fact. Don't just take my word for it; no less an authority than the Maker himself, George Lucas, has said as much on numerous occasions over the years. Of course, that's not to say the property has always been the most successful in this regard (who among us could forget the wonder and joy of watching an entire prequel film about taxation and trade disputes?), or that it can't appeal to those of all ages anyway. Still, at their heart, the adventures of Luke Skywalker and the timeless tale of a Rebellion overthrowing an Empire were conceived as broadly and simplistically as possible -- not to cater to...

Disney Announced An Exciting 1980s Sci-Fi Remake 3 Years Ago, But I'm Worried It Won't Happen
Image
Although Disney has no shortage of exciting remakes on the cards, these projects dont always see the light of day. The company has a habit of announcing projects that never get made, and while theyve got a fairly good track record with quality, theres always the possibility that their most exciting films dont happen at all. The upcoming Flight of the Navigator remake could be an example of this. Following the announcement of Disneys Flight of the Navigator remake several years ago, Im starting to worry that its the latest to join this group of ditched projects.

The decision to remake Flight of the Navigator was a fairly controversial one given the huge number of fans that respect the original, but I was hopeful that Disney would be able to provide something fresh and exciting to justify the projects existence. The first film wasnt perfect, and certain areas of the...

'I'm Ready to Shoot People': Tulsa King Star Dishes on Character's Missing Scenes
Image
The following contains spoilers for Tulsa King Season 2, Episode 6, "Navigator," now streaming on Paramount+.

Tulsa King Season 2 gave Tina Manfredi a gun -- and Tatiana Zappardino is hoping she'll get to use it. In Season 2, Episode 6, "Navigator," Tina convinced her father Dwight Manfredi that she wanted a firearm to protect herself and her children... which audiences know is now a very valid concern, since the episode ended with Tyson's father Mark Mitchell being the victim of a car bomb. But Tina learning how to shoot is one more example of how she's not just Dwight's daughter.

Cbr spoke to Zappardino about how Tina manages her sometimes awkward relationship with Dwight, and how it compares to her own dynamic with Tulsa King star and movie legend Sylvester Stallone. She explained why she's hoping that Tina becomes more involved in the action on the Paramount+ show before the war between Dwight and his rivals ends.

Tulsa King Season 2, Episode 6 Review: This Explosive Death Is a Mistake
Image
The following contains major spoilers for Tulsa King Season 2, Episode 6, "Navigator," now streaming on Paramount+.

Tulsa King Season 2, Episode 6, "Navigator" features the season's most shocking moment -- if only it weren't such a mistake. The Paramount+ show successfully raises the stakes for the second half of the season by having another face-to-face confrontation between all three of the mob factions. However, that's not where the shock and grief comes from; it's the character death that will haunt the series forever.

"Navigator" centers primarily on the sit-down between Dwight Manfredi, his former bosses in New York and his new rivals in Kansas City. This is the last chance for the three sides to work out a deal before they just destroy each other. Yet the subplots with family actually have more impact on the future, as both Tina Manfredi and Tyson Mitchell come to decision points. With Sylvester Stallone bullish about...

The Best '80s Disney Movies, Ranked
Image
Walt Disney Studios has released some of the most beloved and iconic movies to date. Some of these films remain part of pop culture and are just as popular now as they were when they were first released, or even more. The '80s was a particular and defining decade for Walt Disney. Movies like The Great Mouse Detective and The Little Mermaid are credited with beginning the Disney Renaissance, marking the return of critically and commercially successful animated films for the studio. And some of Disney's live-action films of this era, like Return to Oz and Tex, proved the studio was ready for more mature and dark content.

During the '80s, some Disney films almost bankrupt the studio, while others were panned when they were first released but were able to find a loyal cult following later on. Audiences now think of Disney and remember classic films like...

The Movies That Confronted the Scariest Challenges of Space Travel
Image
Space is great. It’s massive, it’s colorful, and you can have big fights with lasers there. It really does have everything you could want. But it also has problems—mainly, like we said, that it’s massive. In fact it’s so massive that if you want to go anywhere in it (apart from a few nearby planets with hardly anyone to shoot lasers at), by the time you get there, you’re dead. Now you might think that if you can just go fast enough, you’ll get there before you die, but there’s a problem.

That problem, as Albert Einstein tells us, is the speed of light. Light, in a vacuum, travels at just short of 300 million meters per second, fast enough to get from Earth to the moon in a little over a second. The thing is if you’re chasing a light beam,...

Happy 75th, Veronica Cartwright

Veronica Cartwright in a 2020 documentary "LIfe After The Navigator" exploring one of her 80s films

Happy 4/20, which happens to be the birthday—same day/month/year—of both Jessica Lange and one Veronica Cartwright, the British-born former child star and current character actor extraordinaire.

When did you first clock the extraordinary Veronica Cartwright on screen? Though she mainly does TV guest spots (and the occasional direct-to-vod titles) nowadays, I can say that she made an immediate impression for me in the mid-‘80s, starting with The Right Stuff (1983), Flight of the Navigator (1986), and most notably The Witches of Eastwick (1987)...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From 1960's House Of Usher
Image
Roger Corman's 1960 feature films "House of Usher" was the first film in a long series of Edgar Allan Poe-based movies at American International Pictures. From 1960 to 1964, Corman directed eight Poe films, with all but one of them starring Vincent Price. After "House of Usher," Corman made "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Premature Burial," the anthology film "Tales of Terror," "The Raven," "The Haunted Palace," "The Masque of the Red Death," and "The Tomb of Ligeia." Technically, 1963's "The Haunted Palace" isn't a Poe movie. It was named after Poe's 1893 poem but was in fact based on the 1927 short novel "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" by H.P. Lovecraft. Poe, it seems, was a bigger marquee name than Lovecraft, so the latter author's story was merely folded into Corman's short-lived but well-remembered Poe subgenre.

Fans of gothic horror would do well to marathon all eight movies. They're all...

Life After the NeverEnding Story (2024)
The Neverending Story | New documentary is funding, will tell making-of story
Life After the NeverEnding Story (2024)
Life After The Neverending Story is seeking funds now, and will explore 1984’s The Neverending Story.

Those who’ve watched Wolfgang Petersen’s 1984 family movie The Neverending Story will know all about one particularly traumatic sequence contained within it. No spoilers, but those of us who watched the film at a certain age know the moment we’re talking about. It almost makes Return To Oz look approachable.

Still, the aptly-named film – sequels did indeed follow – was an unusual production and a sizeable hit. A German film that found international favour, and a hit single too, it’s a genuine curiosity, and also a film that still stacks up.

Well, certainly the makers behind a new documentary hope so. Lisa Downs, a British filmmaker, is making Life After The Neverending Story, and she’s currently fundraising for the film.

Downs has form here: she’s previously brought to life Life...

The Superman Moment In The Iron Giant Is The Best Action Scene Ever
Image
(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, we revisit the surprisingly dark, highly emotional, but quintessentially Superman moment of self-sacrifice in the climax of "The Iron Giant.")

Over 20 years after its release, time has been immensely kind to "The Iron Giant." A perfect example of a film creating a lasting legacy far beyond its disappointing box office performance, the groundbreaking animation effort would put filmmaker Brad Bird on the map (along with his notoriously exacting reputation and painstaking filmmaking approach) and go on to establish itself as one of the best superhero movies of all time. Not too shabby for a hand-drawn production featuring an absolute bare minimum of action scenes and a first-time director at the helm. The 1999 classic is also one of the greatest anti-gun pleas ever committed to film, so...

10 Time Travel Movies That Start In The Past
Image
Some time travel movies start off in the past to establish the protagonist's everyday life before time travel complicates things. Opening a time travel movie in the past can pay off a cliffhanger from a previous movie or create character dynamics for the time jump. Beginning a time travel movie in the past sets the stage for the disruption of normalcy and the exploration of different time periods.

From The Time Machine to Time After Time, some classic time travel movies open in the past. Time travel movies usually start off in the present before the protagonist’s life is upended by traveling to the past or the future – or both. The Back to the Future trilogy begins with Marty McFly enjoying his typical teenage existence in 1985 before sending him to 1955, then 2015, then a dark alternate version of 1985, then back to 1955, then way back to 1885 before finally returning him to...

A Long Time Ago, Paul Reubens Played A Beloved Star Wars Character
Image
With the sudden passing of actor Paul Reubens after a private battle with cancer, the outpouring across the country and the world has been comforting, to say the least. Reubens will always be most associated with Pee-wee Herman, the character he created and developed when he was a part of the world-famous comedy troupe The Groundlings during the late '70s. As Pee-wee became more entrenched into our own cultural fabric and "Pee-wee's Playhouse" hit the airwaves every Saturday morning, a generation of '80s kids fell in love with him.

With Tim Burton's "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" and its sequel "Big Top Pee-wee," Reubens carved out a franchise of his very own during the same decade where the original "Star Wars" trilogy completely dominated the box office. For fans of George Lucas' space opera, Reubens wasn't just known as the lovable, eccentric children's host from television. He was also the voice of Rex,...

Paul Reubens, Actor Behind Beloved Pee-Wee Herman Character, Dead At 70
Image
Actor and comedian Paul Reubens, member of the Groundlings comedy troupe, producer, writer, game show host, and creator of the beloved, whimsical cult character Pee-wee Herman, passed away on July 31, 2023. He was 70 years old. This was confirmed by various posts on the actor's official social media pages and Variety. The cause of death was cancer.

Reubens was always a warm, fun, funny, flamboyant performer who threw himself into oddball roles and comedic set pieces with flair and aplomb. He first pioneered his famous Pee-wee Herman character on stage working with the Groundlings theater in Los Angeles, developing his voice and mannerisms for often-bawdy live performances. This grew into an extended run of "The Pee-Wee Herman Show" at the Roxy Theater which ran from 1981 to 1985. By then, the character had gathered a great deal of caché in the comedy world, attracting high-profile fans who were keen to have Reubens appear on television.

Beloved ‘Pee-wee Herman’ Actor Paul Reubens Has Passed Away at 70
Paul Reubens
“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens,” a statement on the official Pee-wee Herman Facebook page this afternoon begins, announcing the passing of the beloved performer.

The statement continues, “Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”

An actor, comedian, writer and producer, Paul Reubens is best known for playing the character Pee-wee Herman, which began with a live stage show titled “The Pee-wee Herman Show” in the early 1980s. The popularity of the show led to the Tim Burton-directed feature film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in 1985, which spawned a follow-up movie (Big Top Pee-wee in 1988) as well as the Saturday morning TV show “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” from 1986 through 1990. Veronica Cartwright To Guest Star On The CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’
Image
Veronica Cartwright is set to guest star in The CW‘s upcoming series Gotham Knights.

Cartwright will play Eunice Harmon. She will make her debut in Episode 4 and recur in Episode 7.

According to her character description, at first glance, Eunice Harmon may seem every bit the sweet old lady living out her twilight years in a nursing home. But that grandmotherly exterior masks a much darker side, one that harbors sinister secrets and has ties to an evil that has plagued Gotham for over a century.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Veronica as a part of Gotham Knights. A veteran of some of the most frightening movies ever made – Alien, 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Hitchcock’s The Birds – Veronica brings to the role of Eunice Harmon a uniquely chilling sense of danger in an otherwise unassuming package. The character of Eunice was originally supposed to be a one-off,...

Image
Hocus Pocus 2 features the return of Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson, the youngest and ditziest witch of the main trio. Parker is having a great 2022, beginning with her long-awaited return to the Sex and the City world in the HBO Max original ...And Just Like That, which premiered in December 2021.

Although she's best known for her iconic turn as Carrie Bradshaw, Parker has a long film and TV career that dates back to the early '80s. And while Sex and the City will always be her most famous project, she's starred in many other movies and tv shows, many of which have high Rotten Tomatoes scores.

Sex And The City (1998-2004) - 70

Microsoft Explorer Fades Into Cyber Memory As Company Ends Support Of Web Browser
Image
Microsoft has officially stopped supporting its Explorer web browser, a key tool in its rise to tech-industry dominance in the early Internet era but also a key element in the government’s landmark antitrust case against the software firm.

The company signaled a year ago that it would start sending users to its Edge browser, which launched in 2015. Microsoft says Edge has superior technology, and its development came after years of grumbling by Explorer users about what they said were regular glitches as they looked to do much more than just surf the web.

In a blog post, Microsoft Edge Enterprise Gm Sean Lyndersay described his experience as an employee who’d long been familiar with Explorer as a user has been “humbling.” He added, “Our story in many ways is the story of the internet and what it has allowed people and organizations around the world to do.”

Despite abiding fondness for Explorer,...

The Feminist Evolution of ‘Jurassic World Dominion’: How Laura Dern, Bryce Dallas Howard and DeWanda Wise Became Summer’s Breakout Action Stars
Image
“Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.”

That quip from Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler in 1993’s “Jurassic Park” has been immortalized on T-shirts, bumper stickers and coffee mugs ever since the first film in the mega-billion-dollar dinosaur franchise debuted in theaters. But that piece of sexual politics wasn’t in the original script.

“God bless everyone involved who allowed this to be in a movie,” Dern says, reflecting on the scene. “Because that’s what it felt like at that time. I felt like we got away with something.”

A lot has changed in the ensuing three decades, but that line still roars. And it’s a piece of dialogue that has become a central strand in “Jurassic’s” DNA. Because, after all, it’s not just men who enjoy watching a T. rex feast on parkgoers; women dig dinosaurs too. In a sign of the cross-gender appeal,...

How The Adam Project Managed To Dodge Disney's Legal Department
Jennifer Garner, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldaña, and Walker Scobell in Adam à travers le temps (2022)
If you grew up in the '80s, you'll want to watch "The Adam Project," Netflix's new family sci-fi flick starring Ryan Reynolds. It's a love letter to the films I watched as a kid, with "Flight of the Navigator" vibes and a plot that's reminiscent of "The Last Starfighter."

Reynolds stars as Adam Reed, a time-traveling pilot who goes rogue to save the woman he loves, then ends up trapped in his own past. It's an intriguing setup with a familiar feel, calling on family sci-fi tropes and pop culture references to conjure up the sort of retro-futuristic vibe that was commonplace in family films of the...

Fox Unveils Ad Tech to Match Advertisers With Expanding Fox News Content
Image
Fox Corporation wants Madison Avenue to understand that Fox News doesn’t always mean hard-news content.

As the company’s biggest generator of operating profit expands into weather news and lifestyle shows, its ad-tech division is offering new tools aimed at helping advertisers find the exact types of digital content they want to support. Fox Corp. on Wednesday unveiled a proprietary technology it calls Atlas to a group of advertisers meeting in Los Angeles, with a mission to help them match commercials with specific types of digital programming.

“We have so many new lifestyle elements — Fox Weather, Fox Business Prime and on digital,” Jeff Collins, executive vice president of advertising sales for Fox News Media, says in an interview. “Having a technology like this we can take to marketers allows them to align their brand with the right context at scale.”

Media companies of all stripes are rushing to accommodate...

‘Camera Man’: How Author Dana Stevens Uses Buster Keaton’s Career to Track the History of Cinema Itself
Image
Slate film critic and author Dana Stevens and I share something in common. We adore Buster Keaton. I discovered him as a teenager at New York’s Olympia Theater when silent film maven Raymond Rohauer released his “Rohauer Collection,” including eight Keaton classic 20s features, from “The General” and “The Navigator” to “Sherlock, Jr.,” that had been out of theatrical release for decades. All at once, a generation of film critics wrote about the Keaton oeuvre, as if discovering him for the first time.

And I fell in love, both as a cinephile admiring Keaton’s transformation of the language of cinema, and a girl with a crush on a handsome movie star. But it wasn’t just Keaton’s balletic fearless athleticism; something sad behind his eyes drew me in. I read the Rudi Blesh biography, and learned about Keaton’s rough and tumble youth on the Vaudeville circuit,...

Bryce Dallas Howard To Direct Disney’s ‘Flight Of The Navigator’ Remake
Image
Here’s some exciting news for you, folks—Disney has made the bold, completely surprising decision to raid its past library with the hopes of remaking a beloved classic. How the studio came up with this idea is anyone’s guess, but we’ll just have to see how it plays out because this is truly uncharted territory for the studio. Hopefully, you can see the sarcasm in those words, as Disney is no stranger to remakes, revivals, and reboots.

Flight Of The Navigator Remake Will Be Directed By Bryce Dallas Howard
Joey Cramer in Le vol du navigateur (1986)
Look, what little kid doesn't love the idea of unwittingly stumbling upon an advanced alien spaceship, falling unconscious and missing eight entire years without aging a day, and finally boarding the vessel to be whisked away on an adventure of a lifetime? That was my experience with the original "Flight of the Navigator," a movie that I wore out on VHS growing up and is now ready to be introduced to a whole new generation of kids with a remake from actor/director Bryce Dallas...

Bryce Dallas Howard to Direct ‘Flight of the Navigator’ Reboot at Disney Plus
Image
Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct and produce Walt Disney Studios’ reboot of “Flight of the Navigator,” which reimagines the original 1986 film with a female lead. The new movie, which marks Howard’s feature directorial debut, is slated to premiere exclusively on Disney Plus.

The original “Flight of the Navigator” was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus. The family sci-fi adventure film followed 12-year-old David Freeman (Joey Cramer), who goes unconscious after falling down in the woods, only to get abducted by an alien spaceship that transports him from 1978 to 1986. David spends the film trying to reunite with his family, but gets entangled with the police and NASA along the way.

The filmmaker will produce the reboot alongside Justin Springer and John Swartz, who is Howard’s partner at her production company Nine Muses. Howard’s movie will not be...

Bryce Dallas Howard to Direct, Produce ‘Flight of the Navigator’ Reboot for Disney+
Bryce Dallas Howard
Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct and produce a reboot of “Flight of the Navigator” for Disney+, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.

The film will reimagine the story with a female lead. The 1986 original told the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO and reappears eight years later at the same age, with no recollection of what happened. Randal Kleiser (“Grease”) directed, and it was written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus.

The film, although distributed by Disney, was produced and financed by now defunct company Producers Sales Organization. Disney tried to remake the film in 2009 with Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly attached to pen the script, but Disney lost the rights to Lionsgate in the 2010s. However, the studio couldn’t get the project off the ground, so it reverted back to Disney.

John Swartz and Justin Springer are also producing.

‘Flight Of The Navigator’ Female Reboot In The Works At Disney With Bryce Dallas Howard Directing & Producing
Image
Disney Studios is developing a reimagining of its 1986 sci-fi live action feature Flight of the Navigator with a female lead, a project that Bryce Dallas Howard is attached to direct and produce for Disney+.

The original movie, starring Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Veronica Cartwright, follows a boy who travels eight years into the future from 1978 and has an adventure with an intelligent, wisecracking alien ship, named Max. Paul Reubens provided the voice of Max in the film which was released in late July 1986 grossing an uninflated $18.6M at the domestic B.O. Randal Kleiser, who had directed Paramount’s big hit Grease, and The Blue Lagoon, directed the original Flight of the Navigator off a screenplay by Michael Burton and Phil Joanou.

John Swartz, Howard’s partner at her production company Nine Muses, and Justin Springer are also producing.

The project reteams Howard with Disney+ as a director,...
