Wonder Woman's origin story has changed several times over the years, but her newest in Absolute Wonder Woman #1 makes the most sense. The story has adjusted her upbringing, which provides a new layer to her heroism. It also makes more sense for her character based on the roles of the Greek gods and goddesses in terms of influence and punishment.
Absolute Wonder Woman #1 has the creative team of Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, Jordie Bellaire, and Becca Carey. DC's Absolute line has been reinventing iconic heroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. In the case of the Amazonian warrior, her origin has taken a major turn, forcing her to grow up without her usual mother, Hippolyta and her home of Themyscira. While there have been instances where she has been banished from her home as a result of leaving, the place she was raised doesn't tend to change very much.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer season 3!
Actor Tania Raymonde plays a role in The Lincoln Lawyer's season 3, which provides a surprising follow-up to an Amazon legal drama that ran from 2016 to 2021. The Netflix original show follows defense attorney Mickey Haller as he takes on new clients whose crimes vary from theft to first-degree murder. In The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, Mickey Haller faces his biggest test yet when he has to solve the murder of his friend and former client Gloria Dayton, aka Glory Days.
Glory Days murder is far from straightforward, and many aspects of the character are only revealed by her colleagues Kendall Roberts and Trina Rafferty in The Lincoln Lawyer. Tania Raymondes Trina Rafferty is one of the most clever and street-smart characters in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, which is one of the many similarities to another role the actor played only three years earlier.

Before Edward Bluemel made a splash as the spunky romantic lead Guildford Dudley in Amazon Prime Video's My Lady Jane, he starred as vampire turned Oxford lab research assistant Marcus Whitford in the Sky One Supernatural Drama A Discovery of Witches creating a surprising connection between the shows and making them ideal companion pieces. While very different projects, Edward Bluemel's roles in both shows feel linked through his characters' secrecy and inner conflict.
Since My Lady Jane was canceled by Prime Video, fans of the show are rallying behind a petition to save the Tudor dramedy from cancelation. In the meantime, Bluemel's previous work in A Discovery of Witches is finding a new audience after its arrival on Netflix. The show is the perfect post-My Lady Jane watch, as it offers a more dramatic look at a fantasy-history storyline with a dash of star-crossed lovers.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith showrunner Francesa Sloane clarifies reports that Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are leaving the show. The series, co-created by Atlanta writer Sloane and Donald Glover, centers on Glover and PEN15 star Maya Erskine as two spies paired together to pose as a married couple while carrying out missions. It was confirmed earlier this month, after positive reviews from both audiences and critics, in addition to strong viewership, that Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 would happen. However, some reports indicated that Glover and Erskine would not return to reprise their roles.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast, Sloane directly addressed those reports.

Warning: Spoilers for Amazons Attack #6!
The new villain Asylum serves as a dark mirror image of Wonder Woman, believing Amazons should exist only to serve men. Asylum's anti-feminist rhetoric justifies disempowering women under the guise of a savior complex. Wonder Woman's mission to empower women is crucial in a world still determined to weaken them.
The importance of Wonder Woman's mission is emphasized through the newest enemy of the Amazon population. Wonder Woman represents many things, but ultimately is a symbol that exists to empower women, both within the DC Universe and in reality. Past villains have challenged everything Wonder Woman stands for (including her new villain the Sovereign), but none quite like the newest threat to the Amazons: Asylum.
Asylum makes it clear in Amazons Attack #6 by Josie Campbell and Vasco Georgiev that the villain exists to defile Wonder Woman's mission and set back Amazons (and women in general) in the process.

Wonder Woman's latest series is off to a promising start, as it finds her unraveling the mystery behind an Amazon's aggressive actions on U.S. soil, set against the backdrop of an increasingly hostile American government. This premise does more than kickstart a new chapter of Wonder Woman's story, however: its many parallels to 2007's Amazons Attack! storyline suggest this new series seeks to correct the many missteps of its predecessor.
Amazons Attack! – by Will Pfeifer, Pete Woods, and Brad Anderson – was a six-issue storyline from 2007, in which a recently resurrected Hippolyta, under Circe's spell, declares war on the United States and launches a brutal assault on Washington, D.C.
The arc was controversial at the time, and reception of it has not grown warmer in subsequent years.

Sony Pictures’ “The Woman King,” starring Viola Davis, is now playing in theaters, and much like past historical actioners like “Braveheart” or “Gladiator,” those who venture out to see the film will likely be wondering how much of it is rooted in fact.
John Boyega, Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Adrienne Warren and others star alongside Davis in the story of West African women warriors who take no husbands and serve in their positions for a lifetime to protect their nation.
Davis’ character is based on a real life historic figure named General Nanisca, and in the film she trains new recruits alongside Izogie (Lynch) and Amenza (Atim). Headstrong new recruit Nawi (Mbedu) and her peers Fumbe (Masali Baduza) and Ode (Adrienne Warren) challenge their elder superiors with new battle tactics, thoughts and principles.

The white men speak in subtitled Portuguese, while the proud members of various African tribes express themselves in English in “The Woman King,” a clear sign of where our allegiances belong in director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s sweeping early-19th-century war movie. It’s an Africa-set epic of the kind not seen since “Zulu,” only this time, the task of defending the Mother Continent rightfully falls to the locals, not their enslavers. This side of the story is long overdue, recasting Western civilization’s greatest shame as the atrocity that it was while celebrating those who opposed it. Modern as that sounds, the movie embraces the codes of mid-20th-century costume dramas: It’s stirring but slightly stodgy, designed to stand the test of time.
In her fiercest role yet, Viola Davis leads an army of elite women warriors, called the Agojie, who protect the kingdom of Dahomey from outside threat.

Exclusive: French industry execs Naomi Denamur and Julie Billy are launching Paris-based independent production company June Films with a bustling film and TV slate. Scroll down for the company’s current lineup.
After meeting at Celluloid Dreams 15 years ago, the duo have been putting together their first slate over the past 18 months and are now making movies with talent including Clémence Poésy (The Tunnel), Ariane Labed (Mary Magdalene) and Hafsia Herzi (Good Mother). The idea is to be director-driven and genre agnostic and the company will leverage the duo’s extensive experience in production and international distribution to elevate the prospects for their projects. Billy previously worked at Haut et Court where she produced more than a dozen films including Cannes 2020 title Gagarine, Jonas Carpignano’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight movie A Chiara and The Night Eats The World by Dominique Rocher. Denamur is known for her work in international sales and in acquisitions for distribution companies such as Ad Vitam in France and Elastica in Spain. As a producer, the company is largely working on female-fronted French and English-language projects, but the company will also look to do co-productions with foreign directors. Both Denamur and Billy are fluent English speakers. June’s lineup includes five features as lead producer: Hafsia Herzi’s third feature, after Good Mother (Un Certain Regard 2021) and You Deserve A Lover (Critics’ Week 2019), is adapted from La Petite Dernière (The Last One) by Fatima Daas. Shooting is planned for Q2, 2023. The 2021 novel, which generated much conversation in France, charts the travails of a lesbian Muslim woman who grows up in a banlieue [suburb] outside of Paris. She not only encounters institutional racism and misogyny but must also contend with a family which wanted a son instead of a daughter. Amazons, directed by Emma Benestan (Fragiles), is an elevated genre film which will shoot in the ranches and wide open spaces of the Camargue region, exploring the world of bull racing. The three following films are being co-developed with Haut et Court:
Actress Clémence Poésy’s English-language directorial debut, co-written by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean), is adapted from Anna Hope’s well-received novel Expectation, which was translated into 20 languages. The well-received 2019 novel charts the dreams and disappointments of a group of East London women. The film is a co-production between June, Haut et Court and Andrea Calderwood and Gail Egan’s UK banner Potboiler, whose credits include The Last King Of Scotland and The Constant Gardener.
Gagarine directors Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh’s are working with June on a French language feature which is being co-written by Amélie, I Lost My Body and Big Bug writer Guillaume Laurent; and an English-language film with a U.S. producing partner, whose details are being kept under wraps. June’s co-production slate also comprises two features which are due to shoot before year’s end:
Carlo Sironi’s second feature after Sole, produced by Giovanni Pompili, co-producer of Alcarras;
And actress Ariane Labed’s debut feature Sisters, an English-language genre film produced by The Favourite outfit Element Pictures in Ireland. The Souvenir, Mary Magdalene and The Lobster actress Labed directed short Olla which won best first fiction at Clermont-Ferrand in 2020. June is also working on TV projects. The outfit is developing a limited series, adapted from The Mythomaniac Of The Bataclan by Alexander Kauffmann (who will also co-write the series), alongside The Prayer writers Fanny Burdino and Samuel Doux. Developed alongside Studiofact, the series has already generated strong interest from potential buyers. The plot follows a woman who falsely claimed to be a victim of a terrorist attack. Billy and Denamur told us: “June brings together a family of filmmakers we’ve met over the years. We will foster the emergence of new talent, while offering a modern production model. The company aims to protect the vision of its filmmakers, while guiding them in the international market, and our line-up focuses on director-driven cinema which puts forward a diverse range of views of the world.” The continued: “The pandemic has shown that there will always be a need for new content. At a moment when streamers, studios and financiers are seeking exciting European filmmakers, our talent relationships and access to emerging voices put us in an opportune position in the market.”...

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs), essentially digital versions of physical collectibles like baseball cards, are the swag du jour for Hollywood franchises looking to gin up fan excitement.
WarnerMedia’s DC announced that will give away — for free — NFTs of comic-book covers (in three different levels of rarity) for superheroes including Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn. The Nft drop, set for Oct. 5, is designed to drive signups for the DC FanDome event: Users who register for FanDome at dcfandome.com (which takes place Oct. 16) can receive one free Nft, which is allocated randomly, and can unlock a second free collectible if they share their first Nft on social media.
For example, fans of the Princess of Themyscira (aka Wonder Woman) can collect Nft covers designated as “common” (1987’s Wonder Woman No. 1 by George Peréz), “rare” (2021’s Nubia and the Amazons No. 1 by Alitha Martinez), and/or “legendary...

After the breakout success of 2017's Wonder Woman, filmmaker Patty Jenkins was given full freedom by Warner Bros. to make the next movie in the series completely according to her personal vision. The result wasWonder Woman 1984, which was released at the end of 2020 on HBO Max after a spate of delays, to mostly mixed reviews. Connie Nielsen, who played the role of Queen of the Amazons Hippolyta in the film, opined in a recent interview that the fact that Wonder Woman 1984 could not open in theaters put unfair pressure on the project.
"I think that Patty has this extraordinary vision. And it must have been incredibly painful to not be able to have a normal release and to have your release shuffled over and over, feeling this enormous weight on your shoulders for a pretty big blockbuster film, that you're supposed to be bringing the bacon back to the company,...

The latest trailer for Coming 2 America dropped on Feb. 3, and it's good to see Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) again. The sequel picks up years after the iconic 1988 film and sees the newly crowned King Akeem heading back to Queens after he learns that he fathered a son with another woman (Leslie Jones). Although Akeem has a daughter, Meeka (Kiki Layne), his father's dying wish is for him to seek out his long-lost son, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), and groom him to take the throne as his heir.

Sacha Baron Cohen is a Hollywood actor unlike any other. While other performers work on movie sets with tightly controlled environments, Cohen made his name playing "undercover" characters like Ali G and Borat, to film himself taking part in real-world, frequently disturbing events. In a recent interview with CBS This Morning, the actor declared that his days of playing undercover characters are past, and that Borat 2 is his final one.
"Uh, no. I can't do it again. I was lucky to make it out of [the Borat sequel] fully intact. So... no."
While Tom Cruise is often lauded for putting his life on the line to pull off daring movie stunts in real life, what Sacha Baron Cohen does is arguably much more dangerous. While Netflix draws so much awards attention each year because of its robust slate of movies from top-tier directors, it was Amazon Prime Video that actually became the first streaming platform to ever win an Oscar for a narrative feature. Back at the 2017 ceremony, Amazon won three Academy Awards — two for “Manchester by the Sea” (Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay) and one for the international feature “The Salesman.” (Netflix won its first Oscar that year for the documentary short “White Helmets.”)
Netflix has dominated the conversation in the years since — last year, the service received 24 Oscar nominations, the most for any studio — but Amazon is back again this season with a major Best Picture contender in “One Night in Miami” and several other potential nominees.

One Night In Miami director Regina King has said that she has no problem with British actors playing iconic U.S. characters as long as they invest in the part.
Speaking during a BAFTA Masterclass in London last night (Jan 12), King said: “If I was moved by a performance, I really don’t care where a person’s from.”
In reference to British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who portrays Malcolm X in her feature directorial debut, and Canadian actor Eli Goree, who portrays a young Muhammad Ali, King explained:
“As an audience member, to me they truly understood what they were doing, what they were embodying. After Kingsley’s first audition, I wanted to give him some notes. I wanted to just talk to him and get to know him and get to know what his relationship was to Malcolm. He said all the things that I needed to hear him...

To celebrate the release of One Night in Miami, the new film coming to Amazon Prime later this week, we have the pleasure of sitting down with two of its ensemble cast to chat about the already critically-acclaimed drama.
One Night in Miami is a fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali (Eli Goree), Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Abir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jnr), and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) gathered discussing their roles in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s.
Directed by Oscar Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) and written by Kemp Powers, based on his play, One Night In Miami is a stirring, powerful and joyous film that delves into the history of America and the world, the power of dialogue and talking, the importance of democracy and a celebration of four men who helped change the world – and still are.

Roasts, in their standard form, thrive on chaos. They give speakers the green light to share the unfiltered truth of the night’s subject — or, more often, an exaggerated interpretation — leading to story after story, joke after joke, screed after screed that crosses the boundaries of accepted social mores. But, despite certain selections for Comedy Central’s (in)famous televised events, roasts typically work best when the roastee is well-liked. After all, it’s supposed to be an honor. Sure, taking a jackass to task can be fun, but there’s added excitement to peeking behind the curtain of an everyman’s gracious public image, just as there’s an added challenge for comedians to hit a not-so-easy target.
“Yearly Departed,” Amazon Prime Video’s end-of-year comedy special that says goodbye to “the year we love to hate,” is not officially a roast. It’s a wake. Speakers Tiffany Haddish,...

After a year-long wait, History Channel is finally bringing an end to its Norseman saga, “Vikings.” Except that when the historical drama premieres its final 10 episodes, they won’t be on History — but on Amazon’s Prime Video, where all the episodes will drop on Dec. 30. The A+E Networks cable channel is taking an unconventional route to close out its first scripted series on Prime Video before airing on a weekly basis on History next year. The series, which stars Alexander Ludwig, Peter Franzen and Alex Høgh Andersen, was originally set to wrap up its run with a 20-episode sixth and final season split into two parts on History Channel. The first half of the final season debuted last December. “Vikings” showrunner Michael Hirst told TheWrap that the decision was out of his hands. “Nobody told me anything about it. I was told about it as a fait accompli,” he said.

Update 9 Pm: Amazon’s Prime Video has responded to complaints on social media about technical difficulties while streaming today’s NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals.
“Our data shows that millions of Prime Video customers enjoyed a high quality and reliable streaming experience for the 49ers-Cardinals game,” a Prime Video spokesperson said in a statement. “There were reports of isolated local connectivity and broadband issues, which were unrelated to the Prime Video broadcast.”
Some of the frustration expressed by football fans online stemmed from the fact that the game was not available on TV. This marked the second time ever that the NFL gave a game’s exclusive rights to a streamer.
Deadline co-editor in chief Mike Fleming was one of those unable to watch the game. Fleming said he viewed the earlier Bucs-Lions game and late Dolphins-Raiders game, each with a pristine signal. In between,...

Christmas is the giving season, and one person who gave back in a big way this year was Sacha Baron Cohen. Following the premiere of the comedian’s blockbuster comedy “Borat Subsequent Movie Film” in late October, the internet rallied around Jeanise Jones, an unknowing participant in the film who is hired as a babysitter for Maria Bakalova’s Tutar. Jones’ virtuous personality made her a breakout star and the recipient of over $100,000 via a crowdfunding campaign that went viral after word got out that Jones was not properly compensated for starring in “Borat 2.” Baron Cohen himself made an additional $100,000 donation to Jones, the specifics of which he detailed for the first time in a Guild interview this month with IndieWire’s own Eric Kohn.
“I think this has been the hardest year in living memory for most people,” Baron Cohen said. “Jeanise is this incredible figure in the movie.
