If Disney ever brings Atlantis: The Lost Empire to life in a live-action remake, then fans already know who they want to cast as Princess Kida. That’s right – when the same conversation happened on Threads, one fan suggested that actress Isabela Merced would be perfect for the role. The rising star, known for her roles in Madame Web and Dora and the Lost City of Gold, has become a top pick across social media.
With her brilliant acting chops and striking features, many believe that she would do complete justice to the fierce and wise warrior princess. While Disney itself hasn’t confirmed any plans for the live-action adaptation, the growing buzz online shows just how much love the 2001 animated cult classic still holds.

BBC One’s Have I Got News For You rewrote its closing round just minutes before Friday’s recording after producers learned of the day-long social-media brawl between President Donald Trump and Tesla-SpaceX chief Elon Musk. Host Richard Ayoade fronted the season-69 finale, joined by panellists Jack Dee and sports broadcaster Kelly Cates at Riverside Studios; the episode airs tonight at 9 p.m. and later on BBC iPlayer.
Hat Trick Productions often tapes the show on transmission day to allow late edits, but crew members told Deadline that Thursday’s rewrite was “one of the sharpest pivots in years,” with new graphics illustrating the Trump-Musk exchanges dropped into the autocue on site.
The feud dominating the fresh material began when Musk called Trump’s flagship “Big Beautiful Bill” a “disgusting abomination” and backed a post urging Congress to impeach him, while also alleging the president appears in sealed Jeffrey Epstein files.

The third Avatar movie will light the world on fire and leave it in ash later this year, and writer/director James Cameron has officially found something else to sink his creative claws into. Cameron took to his personal social media, including Threads, Instagram, and Twitter, to announce that his production company, Lightstorm, has purchased Joe Abercrombie’s latest book, The Devils, and that a feature adaptation of the novel is in the works. Cameron is co-writing the script with Abercrombie, but further details about the project are being kept under wraps. The Devils was published on May 6 and quickly rose to #1 on The Sunday Times Bestseller list in the UK, and it also recently entered the top five on the Nyt Bestseller list. Cameron shared his description of Abercrombie’s novel in the statement which can be found below.

Netflix’s The Twister: Caught in the Storm plunges viewers into the EF5 tornado that tore through Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011. Under Alexandra Lacey’s direction, the film sidesteps detached narration in favor of first-person accounts, placing us amid the roar of collapsing buildings and the snap of flying debris. Lacey stitches together handheld footage, archival news clips and audio recordings captured during a high-school graduation celebration gone awry.
Moments before cap tosses and diploma handoffs, wind slithers across the auditorium roof; then chaos erupts. Throughout, intimate testimonies—spoken over the howl of the storm—anchor the spectacle in lived experience. Instead of offering a textbook timeline of meteorological data, the film trades charts for heartbeats, trading wind-speed stats for the ragged breaths of survivors.

In a 1963 radio and TV address to the American People on the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, President John F. Kennedy decried the way in which the advent of nuclear weapons had made it so that "all mankind has been struggling to escape from the darkening prospect of mass destruction on earth." The reality was arguably even more dismal. Rather than struggling to escape it, by that point humankind had already gotten used to pretending the looming threat of complete and utter annihilation simply wasn't there.

There’s a new Superman in town, and apparently, he might be into some very chill hobbies. Or not. The internet can’t decide. When Warner Bros. recently dropped an official image from James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie (for the Milk-Bone x Superman promo) — the one where our new Man of Steel is lying in bed with Krypto, his superpowered pup — eagle-eyed fans weren’t looking at the dog. They were squinting at the background, specifically under the poster for a fictional band called Mighty Crab Joys. Is that a bong in Clark Kent’s room? “James, I need to prove some friends wrong,” a fan asked on Threads. “Is that a weed bong underneath the Mighty Crabjoys poster?” Gunn replied, laughing it off: “Haha it’s not.” No further explanation. Just enough mystery to let the internet run wild. Is it a telescope? A decorative vase? Some kind of alien tech?...

According to Rotten Tomatoes, there are only nine perfect horror movies, two perfect sci-fi movies, and two perfect war movies. The BBC's 1984 TV film, "Threads," however, doesn't fit neatly into any category, and as such, stands alone as a film with a perfect 100% score — a true one-of-a-kind.
"Threads" is a drama written by Barry Hines, the author of "A Kestrel for a Knave," which he helped adapt for Ken Loach's 1969 film "Kes." It depicts a massive nuclear attack on the United Kingdom by the Soviet Union and has been described as one of the most disturbing films ever made. When it debuted on September 23, 1984, in the United Kingdom, it caused an immediate stir, with the transmission date becoming known among broadcasters and in the media as "the night the country didn't sleep."

One of this week’s new releases stars Steve Coogan and a penguin, so here’s a film quiz about other actors and their animal co-stars.
They say you should never work with children or animals, but that’s not stopped movie stars teaming up with animal co-stars. There are usually mixed results – even the can’t-lose buddy pairing of “Tom Hanks and a French mastiff” definitely didn’t end happily for both of them (spoilery details here). Now in UK cinemas, Peter Cattaneo’s new movie The Penguin Lessons teams up Partridge and penguin, so we’ve got some quiz questions about other live-action animal star vehicles as part of your usual movie-related trivia safari.

The TV movie Threads that haunts to this day, and Kenneth Branagh and his moustache tackle Agatha Christie. Behind the scenes stories here.
It’s a film made for TV that takes the spotlight in this episode of Film Stories, as 1984’s terrifying post-apocalyptic Threads moves into the limelight. A film made on a very tight budget, and shot in under three weeks, it was nearly derailed entirely by an American TV production around the same time. And when it did get made and was screened? Well, traffic wardens have never looked so chilling.
20th Century Fox meanwhile had plans for a remake of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express.. When Kenneth Branagh joined, he not only had a decision about facial hair to make, but there was also the challenge of a very large cast with very few days together.
Stories of both are told in this episode.

The creative minds behind Adolescence, Netflix’s chilling sensation that shot straight into the platform’s top ten most-watched English-language series, are diving back into the shadows, and this time, they’re pulling one of the most haunting tales in cinematic history into the modern spotlight.

Hot off the heels of a brand new revenge thriller that just dropped on BBC iPlayer, the team isn’t letting the momentum slow. Warp Films, the same production powerhouse behind Adolescence, has now announced their boldest move yet – reimagining Threads, the grim 1984 nuclear war film so psychologically jarring that it’s barely seen airtime in the last four decades.

Horrifying. Moving. Powerful. Game changing. These are just some of the words you've likely heard — or even used yourself — to describe Netflix's lacerating recent four-part drama Adolescence. They're also words that British lovers of film and television have been using for over forty years to describe Mick Jackson's seminal TV movie Threads, a no less shocking and no less audacious piece of filmmaking starring Reece Dinsdale that offered a docu-style look at what may happen in the event of a nuclear attack on Britain. It makes today's news then that Threads is to be remade as a series by Warp Films, the producers of Adolescence, cause for anticipation (and bone-deep fear) rather than concern.

If you thought that Netflix's Adolescence was heartbreaking, wait until you see what its producers have in store for us next. Word has come out that the British production company Warp Films is looking to turn one of the greatest post-apocalyptic movies of all time, Threads, into a TV series, and if it's anywhere near as bleak as the original, you're in for quite a sobering experience.
Per Variety, Warp Films has picked up the option to turn Threads into a TV series, which is apropos when you consider the original film was a made-for-tv production released by the BBC in 1984. It's a chilling look at all aspects of a nuclear war, including the medical, economic, social, and environmental consequences such a catastrophe brings with it. Taking place over a couple of decades, the film seems ripe for a series remake, especially in today's political climate.

Adolescence is a smash hit for Netflix. What’s even more impressive is that not only are viewers finding it to be good television, but it tackles an incredibly disturbing subject that some may have the misfortune to experience. Adolescence touches on a sensitive topic of a young boy who is suspected of murdering a classmate. The series has been collecting accolades for exploring the tough topic through a sophisticated lens and not an exploitative one for the sake of entertainment. There’s even talk about the series being shown in schools for awareness. And now, the producer behind the show is ready to explore another terrifying tale.

Today, social media is a never-ending quest for affirmation, where worth as an individual is quantified by followers, likes and comments. “Nosedive,” an episode from the third season of Black Mirror, hooked into this theme, giving a glimpse of how a person's reputation can be determined based on their online presence. It has been nearly a decade since this episode dropped in 2016. As we move forward in 2025, the issues explored in "Nosedive" about self-esteem and online identity have become even more relevant.
“Nosedive” follows a woman named Lacie Pound who is desperate to boost her social rating. Lacie lives in a world where people are rated between 0 and 5 stars by their peers, similar to how we rate drivers on Uber. The higher someone is ranked, the more valued they are in society.

Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham have reunited in the studio for the first time since Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. News of their collaboration comes from Swedish producer Carl Falk, who has posted photos of the two working on Fleetwood’s solo album.
In late February, Falk posted a photo of Buckingham and Fleetwood in the studio on Threads with the caption, “Slightly unreal moment to sit with Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood to play Lindsey the album we have been working on. And to see his genuine happiness for Mick to finally do his own album and offering to play guitar and to sing on it. Can’t wait to finish this one.”
More recently, Falk posted a studio shot of Buckingham with the caption, “Mick and Lindsey together again, what a flawless guitar player.”
He also shared a photo of Fleetwood in the studio with The War on Drugs.

This article contains Spoilers from the Long Bright River finale.
Long Bright River season 2 gets a cautious response from creators Liz Moore and Nikki Toscano. An adaptation of Moore’s 2020 novel, the Peacock drama follows police officer Mickey (portrayed by Amanda Seyfried) as she begins investigating murders in Philadelphia, while worrying about the safety of her estranged sister. Along with Seyfried, the cast includes Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, John Doman, Dash Mihok, and Britne Oldford. With all eight episodes released on March 13, the main mystery and storyline of Long Bright River were seemingly wrapped.
During a recent interview with Variety, Moore and Toscano addressed whether season 2 is possible. Giving a careful update, Moore teased that it was “classified information,” while Toscano added that a decision would not necessarily come from them. However, the co-creator explained that she and Moore would be interested in reuniting with the Long Bright River talent.

This 41-Year-Old Movie Is 1 of the Best Cold War Films of All Time (& You've Probably Never Seen It)
The Cold War may have ended in 1991, but its effects are still felt today. The constant anxiety left an impact on people, and it made itself known in countless films. Today, some of the most famous “retro” movies are obvious reflections of this troublesome period. Everyone knows about Stanley Kubrick’s dark comedy, Doctor Strangelove, but there are so many more time capsules to be found. After all, the Cold War spanned almost fifty years, from 1947 to 1991. One of the hidden gems of the era is a BBC “documentary” named Threads.
As a 1984 release, it fell near the tail end of the Cold War. Its debut came 21 years after the Cuban Missile Crisis, but it retains the same sense of creeping dread. Its almost two-hour runtime is permeated by an underlying anxiety. The feeling manifests as an unpleasant buzzing sensation that could easily classify Threads as a thriller film. That said,...

Tatum O’Neal walked into Smashbox Studios using a cane, a vestige of the stroke she had in 2020 after an overdose. As she was getting a manicure, she struggled to remember the names of important people in her life. But now that she’s actually before the cameras, posing with her Oscar in hand, she’s come alive. There’s electricity in the air, and we’re all leaning in, cheering her on, rooting for her. “You look like a movie star!” shouts her 38-year-old son Kevin McEnroe, who has traveled from his home in New York to support her throughout the process of this story — and indeed she does. O’Neal beams. “Kevin, I love you!” she shouts back.
In April 1974, at age 10, a tuxedoed O’Neal — “I’m the original tomboy,” she tells me later — won a supporting actress Oscar for her role opposite her father, Ryan O’Neal, in Peter Bogdanovich’s “Paper Moon.

Slender Threads creates a compelling psychological horror experience where game mechanics and story weave together, guiding players through the eerie town of Villa Ventana. Harvey Green, a book salesman struggling with his circumstances, arrives in a small town where nightmares and reality begin to merge.
His presence triggers a sequence of dark events, compelling players to explore a mystery that explores the weight of personal decisions and their impact on surrounding characters.
The gameplay centers on how player actions directly connect to the story’s progression. Harvey’s complex character and decisions create shifts that transform the narrative in disturbing ways. This approach echoes storytelling techniques seen in narrative-focused games like The Walking Dead or Life is Strange, where each interaction carries emotional significance.
Slender Threads intensifies this concept through psychological horror elements, making players contemplate whether Harvey’s trajectory results from his choices or an inevitable path.
Puzzles support the theme of consequence.

The Crow Girl combines Nordic noir’s somber mood with raw elements of British crime drama. Based on Erik Axl Sund’s Scandinavian bestseller, the six-part series moves from Stockholm to Bristol’s dim, wet streets. Dci Jeanette Kilburn, played with fierce determination by Eve Myles, investigates several gruesome murders of young men—each death carries ritual elements and exposes social patterns of abuse and exploitation.
Moving the story goes beyond location changes into British social commentary, examining immigration conflicts, institutional wrongdoing, and community breakdown. The show keeps Nordic noir’s moral uncertainty and deep unease while creating its own style, mixing haunting atmosphere with stark reality.
Starting with a carefully composed violent scene, The Crow Girl holds viewers with persistent darkness. Those who enjoy layered stories will appreciate how the show handles interweaving plots about wrongdoing, psychological damage, and survival.

With no Supreme Court ruling on TikTok today, tensions are high. The wildly popular social media platform owned by China’s ByteDance could shut down in the U.S. on January 19 – just four days from now — or sell itself to an entity Stateside if the Justices do not rule otherwise.
TikTok has 170 million-plus U.S. users and many, in protest, have been flocking to another Chinese social media app called called Xiaohongshu, or RedNote in English, which has been one of the most downloaded apps on the Apple app store this week.
Meanwhile, U.S. rivals led by Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts are set to reap advertising windfalls if TikTok is banned.
In April, President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan Protecting Americans from Foreign Controlled Applications Act, which would ban ByteDance-owned TikTok based on national security concerns. TikTok appealed on First Amendment grounds in December but lost. The Supreme...

If there’s anything that General Hospital fans have learned about Nancy Lee Grahn over the years, it’s that when she’s got something on her mind, then she’s certainly not afraid to share it with the world.
General Hospital News – Nancy Lee Grahn Gets Nasty Over Carrie Underwood
And that’s exactly what she did again when she found out that pop star Carrie Underwood will be performing at Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
While a lot of people were quite surprised that Carrie had agreed to the performance, it seems like Nancy is outraged over it. As far as she’s concerned, no one should be there on Donald Trump’s big day.
She certainly didn’t hold back with her thoughts on the matter on Threads. As many General Hospital fans are aware of already, Nancy Lee Grahn is boycotting X (formerly known as Twitter...

NBC won’t start telecasting NBA games until the fall of this year, but it’s already starting to talk about what will happen when it does.
Viewers of “Sunday Night Football” are slated to see a promo in the middle of Sunday night’s game in which actor Jack McBrayer reprises his popular “30 Rock” character Kenneth the Page while surrounded by popular NBA players Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and Victor Wembanyama. The purpose of the pitch is to tell viewers that NBA games are coming to NBC and its Peacock streaming service in the fall.
“This is a launch moment,” says Jenny Storms, NBCUniversal’s chief marketing officer for entertainment and sports, during an interview. “We will have consecutive moments that will move over the next ten months.” NBC hasn’t aired NBA games in 23 years.
NBC will use Sunday’s reveal to launch new social-media accounts tied to the NBA.

Despite its brief runtime, the Superman trailer has set the internet ablaze with speculation about how James Gunn's first live-action Dcu movie is going to play out. Gunn himself has taken to social media to provide some minor tidbits about the film, even stating that most of what has been shown in this first trailer is all from near the beginning of the movie. That hasn't stopped fans from analyzing and trying to piece together what sort of conflict the Man of Steel will find himself in. Because of this, we have confirmation of yet another DC character that appeared in the trailer, although this one wasn't as obvious as the rest.
While the likes of Guy Gardener, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Metamorpho are easily visible in the trailer, there's one small cameo that plenty of people missed. A fan on Threads pointed out how, in one shot of the LutherCorp building,...

Pooja, Sir takes us into a heartbreaking narrative about the kidnapping of two boys—one from a privileged family and the other from a marginalized community—in the volatile environment of Nepal. This duality of experience provides the foundation for examining existential questions regarding justice and truth.
Deepak Rauniyar, the film’s director and main actress Asha Magrati, creates a drama that weaves personal and societal struggles together. Magrati’s portrayal of Detective Inspector Pooja Thapa goes beyond conventional performance; it reflects the tension of a woman who insists on being addressed as “sir” in a world that expects compliance.
Through this lens, the film becomes a meditation on gender and ethnicity in a society riddled with discrimination. As Pooja navigates the chaos of protests and prejudices, we are forced to confront the complexities of identity and the forces that define our existence, urging us to question the same structures that hold us back.

Dr. Dean Archer has been Chicago Med's resident grump since season 6. The character doesn't often flash a smile, and prefers making withering remarks to his co-workers than connecting with them on a casual or friendly manner (for the most part).
Steven Weber, the actor who plays Archer, is a bit lighter, however. Weber has become a fan favorite presence on Chicago Med, and part of the reason why is the hilarious behind the scenes footage he shares on social media. The actor took to Threads on December 14 to give fans a glimpse of the One Chicago crossover. Well, sort of.

Weber decided to showcase some of the dummies that have been made to resemble human bodies during the upcoming three-part event. "How about that One Chicago crossover that's gonna be happening in January," he asked, before panning to one of the aforementioned dummies.

There’s no denying that acclaimed horror author Stephen King watches a lot of TV shows and movies. Before he made the jump to the social media platform Threads, he regularly shared his opinion on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and hidden gems over on Elon Musk’s X. Though the platform is different, King remains the same as he ever was, recently calling out a big problem that a lot of us have with many modern productions.
Taking to his Threads account, King posed the question, "Are a lot of streaming shows f**king dark, or is it me?" His query prompted a variety of responses, mainly because people at first weren’t sure if he meant "dark" as in content, or "dark" as in "someone should turn on the lights" After clarifying that he meant "visually dark" and adding, "even the funny ones," it all became clear...

Braeden posted a screenshot on his Instagram account and announced that he had deactivated his X account. X is Elon Musk’s version of Twitter. At the time of this article, 115,000 users had left the social media site, per Independent. Most of them have moved to Threads or Bluesky.
The exodus has encouraged celebrities to leave the social network for good. Braeden didn’t need an explanation for his departure. He didn’t even write a caption in his Instagram post. As always, Y&r fans took a moment to react to Braeden’s post in the comment section. He received overwhelming support.

Threads is looking to keep up with its competition by instituting a change that will give its users more control over the content they see. In a post on the Meta-owned X rival, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced that Threads is “rebalancing ranking to prioritize content from people you follow.”
Initially, the Threads recommendation engine operated similarly to the current Instagram algorithm by promoting posts from accounts users don’t follow. In theory, that organizational heuristic encouraged the organic discovery of relevant content.
The focus on discovery has worked wonders for TikTok, but one of Threads’ more direct competitors has flourished by moving away from that approach. Over the past two weeks, a relatively new social media platform called Bluesky has become the service of choice for disgruntled users of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, following the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.
The service has exploded in popularity, growing from around 6 million registered users last month to more than 21 million accounts as of mid-Sunday. The momentum is not slowing down: Staffers at the startup social media platform have been working around-the-clock to keep the website online, troubleshooting bugs and spinning up new servers in an effort to accommodate all that growth.
The reason for the defection boils down to a few things: X (Twitter) has become increasingly user-unfriendly over the past two years, ever since technology mogul Elon Musk acquired the company. The platform’s ever-shifting policies (most of which...

A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.
According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.
Bluesky has been one of the main beneficiaries of millions of users leaving Elon Musk’s X, as the site formerly known as Twitter descends into a mess of bots, extreme content, crypto scams, ads, pornography, racism, transphobia and misinformation.
Hollywood has been quick to adopt Bluesky, particularly with the entertainment industry’s aversion to the political views of Musk,...

Master of horror Stephen King returns with another horror novel in the first half of 2025. Entertainment Weekly exclusively shared a first look at the upcoming book, titled Never Flinch, along with an excerpt that will give prospective readers an idea of what to expect.
Never Flinch has several "intertwining storylines," including one that revolves around a popular character who has appeared in several of King's novels, Holly Gibney. Holly first appeared in King's Mr. Mercedes trilogy, followed by The Outsider, and eventually got her own book titled Holly.
Per the outlet, Never Flinch centers on the Buckeye City Police Department after they receive an ominous letter from someone who wants to murder 14 people, all in "atonement for the needless death of an innocent man." Detective Izzy Jaynes is forced to turn to Holly Gibney for assistance.
The second narrative follows a women's rights activist targeted by an angry stalker who opposes her empowering message.

The Batman Part II has just been hit with some bad news. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has revealed that the script for the hotly-anticipated DC sequel is not finished, despite reports stating otherwise.
Back in September, The Batman writer/director Matt Reeves, who is returning for the sequel, shared with Entertainment Weekly that the script had officially been finished ahead of the movie's 2025 filming start date. Unfortunately, during a recent exchange with a fan on the social media platform Threads, Gunn dismissed the EW report, claiming that it was "well-intentioned" but "mistaken," adding that everyone at DC Studios was "very much looking forward" to reading The Batman Part II script when Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin were finished with it.

James Gunn is back at it again dispelling false rumors about the DC Universe, and this time he's directing his attention towards Creature Commandos. Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted Dcu officially begins next month with the animated Creature Commandos series, which features the paranormal version of Task Force X, a.k.a. The Suicide Squad. The team of anti-heroes are led by one of DC's most unassumingly violent villains, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), but a new rumor claims that the iconic Superman antagonist, Lex Luthor, will appear in the show.
Taking to his unofficial second home of Threads, Gunn addressed the rumor head on, while clarifying where Creature Commandos and Superman fit in the DC timeline. A report has been circulating online that a younger Lex Luthor will appear in Creature Commandos. However, it has caused confusion within the fan base, as it would imply that the animated series...

Gabrielle Union is joining a now-growing list of public figures that are leaving social media platform X.
In a final post made yesterday, the Bring It On star cited changes to the terms of service, as well as the return of “volatile” individuals as reasoning for her departure. Recently, Jamie Lee Curtis also announced her leaving the Elon Musk-owned site.
“There are pivotal moments in life when we must declare that enough is enough—and for me, today is that day,” she began, titling the post “It’s been real!”
“Platforms like X were founded on authentic connections, true engagement, and creative expression, all anchored in respect for user privacy and trust,” Union continued. “Yet, with the recent and upcoming changes to the terms of service—and the return...
