Netflix canceling The Kane Chronicles adaptation is an opportunity for Disney to create a Percy Jackson universe. Disney's success with Percy Jackson on Disney+ indicates TV is a better medium for spinoffs. The Kane Chronicles would work better as a TV show than a movie trilogy to complement Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.
Netflix axed an adaptation of a Percy Jackson spinoff series, which is devastating for those looking forward to it, but the cancelation could ultimately be a positive thing (especially for Disney). Following the overwhelming success of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books, the author published a new series set in the same universe as everyone's favorite son of Poseidon and Camp Half-Blood — The Kane Chronicles. The Kane Chronicles is a trilogy — The Red Pyramid (2010), The Throne of Fire (2011), and The Serpent's Shadow (2012) — revolving around Carter and Sadie Kane, two magicians descended from pharaohs.

Netflix has scrapped plans to adapt The Kane Chronicles into a film series after two years of script development. The future of the project now depends on whether another studio is willing to take on preproduction costs. Despite setbacks, Riordan's work remains popular on screen, as seen in the success of Percy Jackson on Disney+.
Netflix has abandoned its intention to convert The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan into a series of three feature films. The announcement came directly from Riordan, the acclaimed author behind the beloved Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, in response to a fan's inquiry on Goodreads.
Per Variety, Riordan explained that The Kane Chronicles is now in "turnaround," a term used in the entertainment industry to indicate that a project is no longer moving forward with its original studio or network. Despite two years of effort to develop a script for the adaptation, Netflix ultimately chose to abandon the project.

Netflix is no longer adapting Rick Riordan’s “Kane Chronicles” book series into feature films.
Riordan, best known as the author of the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books, shared the news while responding to question from a fan on Goodreads.
“Right now, Kane Chronicles is in ‘turnaround,’ which means Netflix has decided not to move forward and their option has lapsed after trying for two years to develop a script they liked,” he wrote. “Now it depends on whether another studio would like to step in, assume the preproduction costs, and move forward.”
Riordan announced the development of “The Kane Chronicles” film trilogy in 2020. The first film, based on 2010’s “The Red Pyramid,” was penned by “Star Trek: Prodigy” writer Diandra Pendleton-Thompson, according to a 2022 blog post where Riordan wrote that he was expecting a new script draft soon.
