The company Kino Lorber previously announced that they will be releasing John Candy’s 80s comedy, Summer Rental, on 4K Blu-ray in January. The boutique label has now announced that the following month another beloved John Candy movie will be having a new physical video remastering. Blu-ray.com has revealed that Uncle Buck will get its own Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray release on February 18. This film was a much bigger hit for Candy and is seen as one of his best movies. This is also the film that would give Hughes the idea to write Home Alone with Macaulay Culkin in mind.
The movie stars John Candy, Amy Madigan, Jean Louisa Kelly, Gaby Hoffmann and Macaulay Culkin. The Description reads, “When Cindy (Elaine Bromka) and her husband, Bob (Garrett M. Brown), have to leave town for a family emergency, there is only one person available to babysit for their three kids: Bob’s lazy,...

Horror author Stephen King originally wanted John Candy for the lead role in the adaptation of one of his novels. Candy's comedic talent and potential for a dramatic role made him an interesting choice for the film. Despite reaching out to Candy's representatives, the casting did not work out, and the movie ended up being a failure regardless.
A producer on one of the worst Stephen King adaptations reveals the horror author originally wanted John Candy for the lead. The world lost a comedy legend when Candy passed away in 1994 at the age of just 43. After an early string of memorable supporting roles, one-time Sctv mainstay Candy became a lead with 1985’s Summer Rental, going on to star in numerous classic comedies, including Spaceballs, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, The Great Outdoors and Uncle Buck.

It's one of the most beloved and celebrated comedies of the 1980s, headlined by two A-list actors and helmed by one of the decade's most sought after writer-directors. John Hughes' classic, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, with Steve Martin and John Candy, has been required holiday viewing for over 36 years and continues to make viewers laugh out loud today. Martin, known for his outrageous slapstick-style performances in films like The Jerk and All of Me, surprised audiences by playing "straight man" to Candy, the former Sctv cast member who was just starting to forge a successful movie career in films like Summer Rental and Spaceballs.

For author Rektok Ross, her latest novel was a chance to play in the slasher genre, while infusing it with some painful experiences from growing up.
Summer Rental is described as Mean Girls meets Scream, and centers on a group of recent high school grads who rent a house on an island for a weekend and find themselves stranded — trapped on the island with a serial killer on the loose.
The novel, published in June, was partially informed by an experience Ross had as a girl when she was bullied by a former friend group, and then seeing her stepdaughters go through similar situations.
“I’ve always wanted to write kind of like a slasher homage, but with something else was concurrently going on in my personal life,” says Ross, who grew up loving ‘80s and ‘90s slashers such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Nightmare on Elmstreet.

The new year is continuing apace at Hulu. The streamer’s list of new releases for February 2022 is highlighted by one very interesting project.
Pam and Tommy is set to premiere on Feb. 2. Perhaps the Groundhog Day release date is intentional as the show will cover a particular moment of celebrity, sex, and exploitation from the early ’90s that seems to have repeated itself over and over. Sebastian Stan and Lily James star as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and the series follows the events and fallout of their homemade sex tape being stolen and unleashed on a nascent internet. If nothing else, getting the promo photos of Stan and James as the ’90s stars was worth it.

Something about setting comedies during sunny days, coastally or on the water, enhances the feel-good nature of a film viewing experience. Hell, the sun feels and looks pretty good. The sounds of waves crashing or rapids rushing is soothing. Diving into a body of water is a refreshing thrill. A warning up front up - this might start reading like a love letter to Anthony Michael Hall. It isn't, I'll tell myself everyday. If the name isn't setting off your familiar-meter you're either younger than 25 or deprived of the most spirited period in comedy film history, neither of which are an issue. You'll read plenty about him.
I'm not some weirdo. I value comedic actors and find myself easily hypnotized by the charm of characters, thus emotionally invested in them.
It's a lot easier to love a character you've only seen through a window of 90 minutes on film than it is a real person, which is why we hold comedic actors so dearly. Their performances give life to the funny flicks we treasure in our hearts and revisit on a lonely evening, depressed, bombed, or both.
We all have a favorite all-time comedic actor, or several, and our lists of most beloved likely overlap.

Comedy legend and TV pioneer Carl Reiner died at 98, according to Variety. His assistant, Judy Nagy, said he was with his family when he died of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills on Monday night.
Reiner was one of the true greats. He helped shape comedy on television from the early golden era. Filmed comedy would not be the same without him. Even standup comedy owes him a great debt. There are sandwiches named after him in kosher delis around the world. Reiner was always beloved, and forever acting. He was instantly popular from the moment he appeared on Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows in 1950. He and Mel Brooks brought a party gag to national prominence they created the “2,000 Year Old Man” routine. He was veteran conman Saul Bloom in Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven movie franchise, played Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer’s stepfather on Two and a Half Men.

Torn earned an Emmy in 1996 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Larry Sanders‘ uproariously devious Artie. Additional TV credits included Columbo, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Will & Grace.

Carmine Caridi, who played the traitorous Carmine Rosato in The Godfather, Part II (1974) and returned to the Francis Ford Coppola franchise to portray Albert Volpe in The Godfather Part III (1990), died Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, where he had been in a coma. He was 85.
The veteran actor had screen credits in the triple-digits by the end of his career but his signature roles was Rosato, a key figure in the bloody mob battle that played out as a centerpiece of The Godfather, Part II, which won the Academy Award for best picture to match the gold-plated achievement of its predecessor, The Godfather (1972). Rosato’s machinations created turmoil and confusion for the Corleone Family but in the end his gambit failed and his fate was a shotgun execution.

The group – who might be taking the trip as a pre-birthday treat for soon-to-be-37 Kourtney – posted plenty of shots of their adventures on Snapchat and Instagram.
"Summer rental," Kourtney captioned a shot of a home, sitting before a mountain. In a second photo, of her and Cheban in a large black van,...

The Goonies celebrates its 30th birthday today, and even after all these years we still adore this '80s classic.
Rumours have been swirling for some time about a Goonies 2 (make it happen, Hollywood!) with all the original cast returning, so with this in mind we take a trip down memory lane to find out what the stars of the cult classic are doing now.
Sean Astin
Sean Astin played the slightly dorky yet bright, braces-clad Mikey - who attempts to leads his fellow adventurers to One-Eyed Willy's hidden fortune upon his discovery of an old treasure map.
The 44-year-old actor has continued to enjoy movie success with his role as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Astin also played Lynn McGill in hit Fox TV series 24, provides the voice of Raphael in Nickelodeon's TV version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012), and recently appeared in Guillermo del Toro...

Code Entertainment is making the romantic comedy Atom and Eve about a young computer scientist whose boyfriend just broke up with her and she feels like she's got to show her parents that she can get a quality guy. So, instead, she sets out to convince her parents that her A.I. humanoid bot is really her boyfriend. Let's face it, relationships would be easier if you could program your girlfriend or boyfriend - it would definitely be easier to decide which movie to see ("My boyfriend can't wait to see The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2!").
Code purchased the spec script from the writing duo of Ethan Furman and Adam Farasati who are quickly making a name for themselves. The team also wrote Paramount's remake of the John Candy summer vacation comedy Summer Rental and The Creepy Kid (great title, no?) for Montecito and Magnet.

After taking attendance we realize they were all there: the jock, the geek, the pregnant girl, the psychopaths and the male stripper. Every cliché necessary for an '80s high school comedy with that rich, full-bodied flavor we enjoy, except one thing was missing… a little someone named Adam Sandler.
Of course we're talking about the 1987 Mark Harmon/Kirstie Alley slacker classic "Summer School," which The Hollywood Reporter says will now be remade through Sandler's hit factory production company Happy Madison.
Well, you know, "hit factory," not counting "Bucky Larson." Sorry, Bucky.
Harmon originally starred as a laid-back gym teacher forced to abandon his summer plans and teach a remedial English class full of outcasts, weirdos, and a hot young Courtney Thorne-Smith fresh off of "Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise."
