“I Love 16mm”: Deniz Eroglu on The Shipwrecked Triptych
Image
When I emailed gallery artist and filmmaker Deniz Eroglu to set up an interview about what I thought was his first feature film, The Shipwrecked Triptych, I asked what past work I should familiarize myself with to prepare. “I made another triptych in 2013,” he wrote back. “Maybe that will suffice?” 2013’s The Bedridden Triptych does indeed contain the embryonic seeds of Eroglu’s first formal feature film: three episodes in a darkly humorous vein, all shot on different formats, offering a kind of cross-section of Denmark, where the filmmaker was then based. Disney+ Removes Original Movies & Series In Emea
Image
Updated: There has been another round of content removal from Disney+, this time in the Emea region, which consists of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. More than 120 titles have been taken off this week, primarily Disney Channel original movies and vintage Disney live-action films, as well as a few series, including Zeke and Luther, Pepper Ann, So Random and the first three seasons of Nat Geo’s Genius and ESPN/Nat Geo docs.

According to sources, the takedowns were a result of a library title review. There have been several content purges at Disney+ over the last year amid cost-cutting, most notably the removal of a slew of original series last May.

Here is a list of movie titles that are said to be gone from Disney+ in Emea, compiled by Drew Ryan.

Image
Exclusive: Channel 4 has made a first foray into the U.S. market with the launch of a duo of Fast channels bringing together some of the network’s top adventure and blue-light shows.

The 4 Adventure and 4 Emergency Fast channels represent a major step for the public commercial broadcaster, which has talked up its strategy to boost digital turnover and find alternative revenue streams for a number of years now.

Inside is a psychological thriller directed by Vasilis Kastoupis and starring Willem Dafoe.

Willem Dafoe gets down to business and tells himself what Tom Hanks said to himself years ago: I’ll do this one myself. An interpretative tour de force, indeed… you have to take it ever so calmly and with an even greater degree of reflective spirit.

Plot

An art thief gets locked in a house in the middle of a crime. A hellish heat, with the water turned off and only the images on the TV for company.

The Challenge: Summer Edition Ordered at CBS
Denzel Washington in The Great Debaters (2007)
The Challenge is making the jump from MTV to CBS.

Paramount announced a series order for The Challenge: CBS, which will air in the Summer.

The series features “reality titans from the CBS universe will compete in the most unpredictable and demanding game of their lives.”

The contestants in the series would be vying for a spot on The Challenge's War of the Worlds championship event series on Paramount+.

They would compete against contestants from the just announced The Challenge: Argentina, The Challenge: Australia, and The Challenge: UK.

The Challenge is going global, and this could be a great way to introduce new competitors into the franchise.

MTV Announces ‘The Challenge: Double Agents’ Premiere Date, Cast
Image
After a 35th season that put its contestants in a post-apocalyptic style bunker, there was no way a global pandemic was going to stop “The Challenge.”

The 36th season, subtitled “Double Agents” and shot on location in Iceland under Covid-safe guidelines, will premiere Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. on MTV, the cabler announced Thursday.

Additionally, MTV announced a “meet the cast” sneak peek special episode, “MTV’s The Challenge: Double Agents Declassified,” airing Dec. 7 at 8 p.m., and that the official “Challenge” podcast through a partnership with iHeartPodcast Network will launch Dec. 10.

“The Challenge: Double Agents” is a partner-format season consisting of 19 episodes in which 30 of players from “The Challenge” history as well as some other reality competition series such as “Survivor,” “Big Brother” and even “America’s Got Talent” compete for their share of a $1 million prize.

Disney: The 10 Best Live-Action Movies Of The ‘90s (According To IMDb)
Though Disney has released a lot of great films throughout the years, the ‘90s, in particular, were filled with solid films. Of course, there were many animated classics released during this decade, being that the company was deep into the Disney Renaissance. That being said, there were also tons of live-action films that should not be overlooked. That’s what we’re here to focus on now. To do this, we’ll be turning to the scoring system on IMDb.

Every single Disney film released between 1990 and 1999 has received a star rating on the popular entertainment website. This score is based on the votes of registered users on a scale of one to ten.

Related: 10 Easter Eggs Hidden In Disney Renaissance Movies From The 90s

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Shipwrecked could have qualified with a score of 6.7. Being that we have limited room, however, it’s getting a shout-out here in the intro.

2019 American Music Awards: Statements with a Dose of Nostalgia
"Less is more" was the takeaway of the 2019 American Music Awards.

The night celebrated the year's most popular songs and artists, but it was the oldies that made the show resonate with audiences both inside the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles and watching worldwide.

There was plenty of nostalgia going around starting with Kesha's first performance in 6 years that included her latest single "Raising Hell" in addition to her 2011 hit "Tik Tok."

She was finally granted permission to sing her old songs following a public battle with Sony and producer Dr. Luke.

90s oldies but goodies like "Green Day's 1994 "Basket Case," Toni Braxton's 1996 "Unbreak My Heart," and Shania Twain's 1997 classic "I Feel Like a Woman," were also crowd pleasers.

Exclusive: Motion Content Group, the Wpp-backed business behind international hits including reality format Love Island and Syfy’s Western horror thriller Wynonna Earp, is one of the most recondite TV producers and financiers in the industry. The company, which is in 26 international markets and has funded over 500 series, is now making a major play in the United States following CEO Richard Foster’s relocation from London to La.

In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Foster discusses the company’s Stateside battle plan, how he hopes British formats such as Shipwrecked and The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes can follow the likes of Love Island and The Circle, which have landed at CBS and Netflix respectively, to the U.S. as well as a major scripted push with titles including Intergalactic from the team behind Peaky Blinders.

Banijay in Advanced Talks to Acquire Endemol Shine
French TV group Banijay is in advanced talks to acquire production and distribution giant Endemol Shine, Variety has confirmed.

The deep-pocketed Banijay Group, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is controlled by Stéphane Courbit’s Lov Group and De Agostini Group’s DEA Communications. French media giant Vivendi also holds a significant stake.

Endemol Shine, the Netherlands-based producer of “Big Brother,” “MasterChef” and “Black Mirror,” is jointly owned by 21st Century Fox and private equity fund Apollo Global Management. It was put on the block earlier this year.

Sony has bowed out, and Endeavor, which took a look at Endemol, is...

Arthouse Audit: ‘Tickled’ Leads Long List of Modest Openers
It’s only June and it already feels like the dog days of summer. No breakouts. A slew of niche titles, including several documentaries. This week’s standout is Sundance doc hit “Tickled” (Magnolia), which is showing some potential.

This week’s range of titles is wide and diverse. Some boast high festival and/or review pedigrees, and many come from distributors who aren’t reporting numbers (we offer estimates; “Parched,” an Indian indie from Wolfe Releasing and “2016 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour” remained elusive).

Meantime, “Love & Friendship” (Roadside Attractions) and “The Lobster” (A24) continue to thrive ahead of other recent releases and “Maggie’s Plan” (Sony Pictures Classics) keeps going, along with doc standout “Weiner” (IFC).

Opening

“Tickled” (Magnolia) – Metacritic: 77; Festivals include: Sundance, San Francisco, Seattle 2016

$24,000 in 2 theaters; PTA (per theater average): $12,000

After its strong reaction contending at Sundance’s World Documentary competition, this expose of the...
