FAQ

Hamlet

FAQ

Too many lines to enumerate here, and he even adds some lines that Shakespeare never wrote, as in his 1968 film version of "Romeo and Juliet". Among the famous moments that he cuts are Hamlet's advice to the players, and even the line "Get thee to a nunnery", which Hamlet delivers angrily to Ophelia after she tries to return his letters, although the rest of his speech is still in the film, broken up into two separate scenes. Zeffirelli also omits the entire first scene of the play, in which the guards at the castle see the Ghost of Hamlet's father before Hamlet himself does. All references to the Ghost's wearing armor are also omitted, because Zeffirelli has chosen to not have the Ghost wear armor.

Fortinbras is also left out of this version.

The "To be or not to be" speech, however, is presented complete.
