The film was based on an idea writers John Platt and Roy Langsdon came up with while driving to producer Menahem Golan's office. The script was commisioned in December 1989, written in 10 days, in production by the end of January 1990, and hit theaters on March 17th, all in an attempt to beat Lambada... le film (1990) to theaters. Both films were released on the same day.
The picture was nominated for Worst Picture at the Hastings Bad Cinema Society's 13th Stinkers Bad Movie Awards in 1990.
A sequel was planned (Advertised in Variety as "Naked Lambada! The Forbidden Dance Continues") but cancelled due to this film's less than favorable performance at the box office.

The producers of Lambada... le film (1990) successfully sued to have the word "Lambada" removed from this movie's official title. Only this movie uses the song "Lambada," which was an international sensation for a few weeks in 1990.
