The huge question going into Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star season five episode 12 is will all the characters fans have grown to know and love survive. Could someone be killed off in episode 12, the series finale? Rob Lowe spoke to Entertainment Weekly about that possibility but didn’t give away any spoilers.

“Is there a world where Owen dies heroically? Does he live, does he not? And same for everybody else,” said Lowe. “This is a show where it’s totally organic on any given day that any one of these characters could have something really bad happen to them. I mean, that’s not pushed reality — it’s the reality of what first responders go through. So we were debating, ‘Do we want to push that button…...

He discovers that Chief Bridges killed Gabriel and Ranger Campbell had been set up to take the fall. Carlos is last seen visiting his father's grave, proclaiming that he's ready to be a parent to Jonah alongside Tk.

The season's biggest shake-up occurred when series regular, Sierra McClain, exited Lone Star ahead of the final batch of episodes. Judd reveals that his wife is volunteering with Mercy Ships, a real organization that sends hospital ships to those who need medical care.

With only three episodes left in its run, 9-1-1: Lone Star returns to Fox on January 20 at 8 p.m. Et. '9-1-1: Lone Star's Asteroid Event Could Be Great
Image
Quick Links What Is '9-1-1: Lone Star' About? '9-1-1: Lone Star' Finale's Air Time & Premise Why 'Lone Star's Asteroid Event Is the Perfect Send-off

The new year brings a harrowing new mega-disaster for Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) and Firehouse 126 to battle when 9-1-1: Lone Star kicks off its three-part series finale in January. While the impending cataclysm may never eclipse the amusing lunacy of a Sharknado-like invasion of killer bees in the mothership, 9-1-1, the notion of Strand and his team fighting an asteroid heading for Earth is too ridiculous to avoid.

Adding to the intrigue, the final three episodes come almost two months after Season 5, Episode 9, "Fall From Grace," dramatically bridging the insufferable suspense as the popular 9-1-1 spinoff concludes. For a network procedural meant to appeal to a broad audience, Lone Star is at its best when it goes full-on...

9-1-1: Lone Star Can Vilify Grace After Sierra McClain's Exit
Image
Many were concerned about how 9-1-1: Lone Star would handle Sierra McClain's exit in season 5, and, unfortunately, her character's absence has led to some problems that could make Grace the villain. The Fox procedural drama TV show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear is a spinoff of 9-1-1. It premiered in January 2020 and follows a group of first responders living in Austin, Texas, including McClain's Grace, who has been around since season 1.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 returns in 2025 with its final three episodes, starting on Monday, January 20, at 8 pm Et on Fox. Its series finale will air on February 3.

Unfortunately, McClain's Grace left 9-1-1: Lone Star in season 5 as the actress decided to exit the series. So, the writers had to figure out a way to write Grace out in a way that would satisfy the audience and...

Angelina Jolie’s First Movie In 3 Years Is Now Streaming On Netflix, And Her Performance Is Already Getting Awards Buzz
Image
Angelina Jolie’s performance in Maria eases her return to the award nomination lineup, demonstrating the actress never lost her hypnotizing craft despite her participation in less demanding movies. Coming back to bring opera singer, Maria Callas, to the screen, Jolie delivers a portrayal as exquisite as the artist’s immortal voice recordings, making her a leading contender for the best actress category of the Oscars 2025. Having recently played charismatic characters in Eternals, Maleficent, and the Kung Fu Panda franchise, some viewers might have forgotten Jolie’s outstanding past performances, but Maria is far from being her first Oscar-worthy execution.

The actress is no stranger to great biopic movies, as her characterization of Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart garnered her a Critics Choice Award nomination. Additionally, she knows the role of a tortured celebrity all too well, having won a Golden Globe for her embodiment of real-life supermodel, Gia Carangi.

What Happened to Carlos's Father on 9-1-1: Lone Star?
Image
9-1-1: Lone Star, which began in 2020, follows the work and personal lives of first responders in Austin, Texas. Fire Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) leads the team at Firehouse 126, along with the paramedic captain of the house, Tommy Vega (Gina Torres), and they work closely with police officers at the Austin Police Department, the Texas Rangers, and 9-1-1 dispatchers to care for the people of Austin. As the show wraps its fifth and final season, it has begun to bring its biggest storylines to a close, and no storyline has needed it more than that of Carlos and Gabriel Reyes.

Carlos Reyes (Rafael L. Silva) was first an Apd officer but, as of Season 5, Episode 1, "Both Sides, Now," has transitioned to being a Texas Ranger. Married to T.K. Strand (Ronen Rubenstein), a paramedic and the son of Owen Strand, Carlos has spent the bulk of 9-...

9-1-1: Lone Star Showrunner Breaks Down Midseason Finale's Shocking Betrayal
Image
This article contains spoilers from 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5, Episode 9, "Fall From Grace."

9-1-1: Lone Star wrapped its five-season run by revealing that Chief Bridges (Alan Autry) killed Gabriel Reyes (Benito Martinez) and set up Ranger Campbell (Parker Young) to take the fall. Executive producer Rashad Raisani recently explained why Bridges was the perfect character to carry out the ultimate betrayal.

"We knew that the betrayal had to hit as close to home as possible because the person Carlos trusted the most would be the only person who could have kept it from him this long," Raisani told Screen Rant. "And frankly, we also wanted somebody of Alan Autry's gravitas. He was the only person capable of pulling the wool over Gabriel's eyes also."

Carlos (Rafael L. Silva) finally got the closure he so badly needed in his father’s death after discovering that Chief Bridges (Alan Autry) was actually the corrupt Ranger. 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Is About To Make Grace's Frustrating Exit So Much More Upsetting
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 9, "Fall From Grace."

Even though many things were going on in the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 finale, one of the standout moments concerned Judd and how he had been dealing with Grace's frustrating exit. As many know, Sierra McClain, who began playing Grace in season 1 of the Fox procedural drama, exited the series ahead of season 5 (reportedly due to contract negotiations). So, the writers had to cut Grace from the final season's story. Unfortunately, though, Grace's 9-1-1: Lone Star exit was so disappointing, thanks to one glaring issue, and the fall finale surely didn't fix the character's upsetting departure.

Following the season 5 fall finale, 9-1-1: Lone Star is going on a seven-week hiatus before returning on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 8 pm Et on Fox. Then, only one episode remains until...

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’: How a Deleted Pilot Scene Made Its Way Into Final Season for Significant Owen Storyline
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 “Fall From Grace.”] When 9-1-1: Lone Star began, Owen (Rob Lowe) was in New York. A job offer then brought him and his son, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein), to Austin, where he helped rebuild the 126 after a tragedy. And it’s starting to look like his journey could take him full circle. In the fall finale, he was presented with a job offer: New York City fire chief. As the daughter of a firefighter he worked with explains, the current chief is resigning because since the pandemic, buildings are empty so firehouses are closing, salaries are being slashed, and recruitment and morale are down. A poll was taken for who could pull them out of this, and Owen’s name came up more than any other. While she knows people depend on him in Austin, she has to ask: Who needs him more? This arc allowed ...

9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 Reveals Gabriel’s Killer and Ties Up Loose Ends in Fall Finale
Image
The pieces are quickly clicking into place as 9-1-1: Lone Star comes closer to its swan song.

And it seems 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 was intent on wrapping up the case of Gabriel Reyes’ murder and finally elaborating on Judd’s drinking issue.

Also, we can anticipate where Owen will find himself by the end of the series.

(Kevin Estrada/Fox)

When you have a series like this coming to a close in a mostly unexpected way, what results is a bunch of storytelling that can seem sporadic with the sole purpose of getting us to the finish line of completion.

And “Fall From Grace” was one of those installments where it felt like they had that sticking point in their minds that they needed some of these storylines to wrap up or place characters on specific paths.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’: How Sierra McClain’s Exit Completely Changed Judd’s Arc & What Would’ve Happened for Judd & Grace
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 “Fall From Grace.”] How has Judd (Jim Parrack) been doing without Grace on 9-1-1: Lone Star? In two words: not well. As Owen (Rob Lowe) discovers after bringing him home after a night out, Judd has been drinking—there are bottles everywhere. Judd’s been hungover, not sick, at work, but he swears he’s never been drunk on the job. It started after Grace left, Judd admits, because he lost his “center.” He can stop cold turkey, he promises, it’s just a rough patch. It’s been five months, Owen argues. Judd protests that he’s acknowledging the problem. But now Owen’s decided not to take a job offer in New York and insists on taking Judd to a meeting. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 9 “Fall From Grace.”] The good news: Carlos (Rafael Silva) finally closes the case on his father’s murder. The bad news: The truth about what happened is a tough pill to swallow. But 9-1-1: Lone Star, in its last fall finale, delivers answers and ends its 2024 on a promising note for Tarlos. Though it looked like Carlos’ new partner Campbell (Parker Young) was dirty and had sold out criminal informants then killed Gabriel Reyes, he was, in fact, set up by Chief Bridges (Alan Autry). Does Judd Resent Grace's Decision In 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5? Showrunner Previews The Character's "Dark" Storyline
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 9.

After a five-year run, 9-1-1: Lone Star is coming to an end with the series finale set to air on Monday, February 3. Season 5, episode 9, "Fall From Grace," addresses the show's most lingering questions, including how Judd is coping with his wife's absence. Former series regular, Sierra McClain, did not return for the final batch of episodes, resulting in Grace being written out of the series. Judd explains in the season 5 premiere that she elected to join Mercy Ships, a real Christian charity that provides medical help to those in need.

The timing is inconvenient due to their toddler, but Judd has continuously expressed pride over her decision. However, the fall finale reveals that he downplayed the impact of Grace's absence and has turned to alcohol to cope. When speaking with ScreenRant, co-showrunner and executive producer, Rashad Raisani,...

9-1-1: Lone Star EP Breaks Down Carlos’ Discovery in Fall Finale, Teases ‘Series-Altering’ Moment for #Tarlos in 2025
Image
Is there an Edible Arrangement big enough to properly say, “I’m sorry for accusing you of killing my dad”? If so, Carlos owes one to Ranger Campbell after the fall finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star.

To make a long story (very) short, Monday’s episode revealed that Chief Bridges was the real crooked Ranger — but only after Campbell went on the run, Carlos got shot, and Campbell’s wife was hauled downtown on suspicion of conspiracy. (No wonder she shot daggers at Carlos when she saw him at the hospital. She really didn’t know anything!)

9-1-1: Lone Star Update Means It Can No Longer Fix Its Season 5 Blunder
Image
As Fox airs the last season of 9-1-1: Lone Star, the show has issues to address to wrap up its story, but the series cannot fix one of its biggest mistakes before the finale. The procedural drama is a spinoff of the hit show 9-1-1, which moved from Fox to ABC in 2024 and is in the midst of airing its eighth season. While 9-1-1 has excelled following its transition, 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending after season 5. Some hope that the characters will live on in other 9-1-1 shows, but for now, their stories will end during the season 5 finale.

The fall finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star, "Fall From Grace," season 5 airs on December 2 at 8 pm Et on Fox, and will return on January 20, 2025, at the same time. Meanwhile, the series finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star is scheduled for February 3.

Grace's Presence "Looms Large" In 9-1-1: Lone Star's Fall Finale, According To Showrunner
Image
For the upcoming 9-1-1: Lone Star fall finale, Grace Ryder's influence will continue to resonate throughout the series despite her absence. Sierra McClain, who played Grace, left the show after the season 5 premiere due to a dispute with the studio. Her character took a prestigious overseas job, creating a pivotal turning point in her relationship with her husband, Judd Ryder (Jim Parrack), who simultaneously retired from firefighting. Throughout Lone Star's final season, Judd has faded to the background, quietly struggling without his wife.

In an interview with Screen Rant's Rachel Foertsch, the 9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani spoke about the symbolic significance of the next episode's title, "Fall From Grace." Raisani confirmed McClain would not return for the episode, instead hinting at a tense showdown between Carlos Reyes (Rafael Silva) and his partner Ranger Campbell, and a return to Judd. However, he could not have anticipated what he discovered in 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5, Episode 8, "The Quiet Ones," when he learned that Campbell was dirty. Daredevil's New Ghost Rider Form is One of His Wildest Redesigns of All Time
Image
Daredevil's new Ghost Rider-inspired form is one of his most unforgettable reimaginings in Marvel Comics. The cover art for Daredevil #9 showcases a nightmare come to life, with the hero possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance. The fusion of Daredevil and Ghost Rider calls back to his Hellspawn doppelganger from the '90s, and teases potential for a story highlighting Matt Murdock's angelic and demonic nature.

Daredevil’s new Ghost Rider-inspired form has been revealed, and is one of his most unforgettable reimaginings ever seen in Marvel Comics. Some time has passed since Marvel debuted The “Hellverine,” a fierce Wolverine/Ghost Rider mashup who will spin off into their own title later this year. And to celebrate, Marvel is releasing a series of variant covers showcasing its heroes possessed by the same Spirit of Vengeance.

Most outstanding among them is the cover art for Daredevil #9, fusing the iconic...

A Bold Ad-Lib In The Phantom Menace Made Captain Panaka Part Of Star Wars History
Image
Part of the beauty of the "Star Wars" universe is how big and populated it is. Not only did the original trilogy deliver groundbreaking visual effects, but George Lucas wrote enough backstory and worldbuilding while working on the first film to sustain decades' worth of "Star Wars" movies. That worldbuilding also resulted in hundreds of smaller background characters that became overnight fan favorites once the movies — and the merchandise — started arriving. Even the most inconsequential one-off characters suddenly became beloved by audiences despite there being little to no official information available about them — at least, until we got entire novels and books devoted to every Glup Shitto and Max Rebo out there.

Of course, not every character gets that treatment. In fact, there is one character we only know the name of because the actor decided to take matters into his own hands during shooting — Quarsh Panaka. You remember that guy,...

No Disney Movie Will Cross $1 Billion At The Box Office This Year – And That's Bad News
Image
2023 has, overall, felt like an up year at the box office. We've had massive hits like "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" that helped deliver a monster summer movie season, we've had original films like Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City" find their audience, and horror has reigned supreme with the likes of "M3GAN" and "Five Nights at Freddy's" putting a lot of butts in seats. Disney, however, has had a down year and, as evidence of that, not a single one of the studio's mega-budget blockbusters released this year will cross the $1 billion mark.

Disney's highest-grossing movie of the year is director James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," which topped out at $845 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo. That makes it the fourth highest-grossing movie of the year behind "Oppenheimer" ($950 million), "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($1.36 billion), and "Barbie" ($1.44 billion). From there, it's a steep drop-off, with Disney's next biggest...

Daredevil: Black Armor #1 Adds Depth to an 'Extreme 90s' Concept (Review)
Image
Marvel's Daredevil: Black Armor resurrects a 1990s concept and delivers a compelling story that showcases the depth of the character. The issue, written by Dg Chichester and illustrated by Netho Diaz, takes place during the "Black Armor" era and features Daredevil's pursuit of human traffickers. This story not only pays homage to the past but also hints at future Daredevil stories, proving that the Black Armor era had potential that was overlooked in its time.

Warning: contains spoilers for Daredevil: Black Armor #1!

Marvel’s new Daredevil: Black Armor takes an “extreme” concept from the 1990s and gives it new depth. The early part of the decade saw both DC and Marvel shake up the status quo of a number of their most popular characters, Daredevil among them. The resulting storyline, Fall From Grace, took Daredevil in a new direction, including a new secret identity and sleek, black armor. Now, the...

Why Geto's Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Part 1 Needed More Time
Image
Jujutsu Kaisen garnered a huge fanbase when it premiered its engaging first season in 2021. With its mix of exciting fighting sequences, magic system, and memorable characters the anticipation for the second season was quite high. The second season is split into two parts with the first focusing on fan-favorite Gojo and best friend turned villain Geto, which was teased in the Jujutsu Kaisen movie. Jujtsu Kaisen Season Two Part 1 promised to explore the catalyst behind Geto's downfall into darkness. Unfortunately, it proved to be another failed Fall to Madness Arc.

The misstep is not unique to Jujutsu Kaisen. The rapid deterioration of Geto's stability, most of which happens off-screen, is an echo of the same flaws that were found in Scarlet Witch and most famously Daenerys Targaryen during the Season 8 Game of Thrones episode titled, "The Bells." The rushed madness arc has left audiences across various mediums feeling both confused and dissatisfied.

"Back in Black": Daredevil Dons His Gritty 90s Armor in Awe-Inspiring New Art
Image
Coming in November, readers will get the chance to see Daredevil return to his '90s armored costume once again, with a new miniseries set within D.G. Chichester's run. A four-issue limited series, Daredevil: Black Armor puts Matt Murdock back into the black armored suit that has divided fans for decades.

Daredevil: Black Armor comes from Chichester, Netho Diaz and Jp Mayer, with amazing cover art from Mark Bagley and a gorgeous variant cover from Rafael Grassetti. The series will see innocents vanishing into New York's underground, with Matt Murdock throwing on his armor to bring them home safe. The series includes villains such as Hobgoblin and Sabretooth, and promises "nonstop intense action and brutal fighting in extreme '90s fashion." It seems this story is specifically designed to show why Daredevil needed his armor, and will test the protective costume to its limits.

Daredevil's Most Controversial Costume Returns to Silence the Haters
Image
Daredevil's black armor was part of a trend in the early 1990s to overhaul iconic characters in new and shocking ways. The black armor made sense for Daredevil's dangerous work, providing him with greater protection. Despite the hate it received, Daredevil's black armor gave the character a much-needed edge and is returning to silence the haters for good.

Daredevil’s most controversial costume has returned to silence the haters once and for all. For most of his career, Daredevil’s bright red suit has been one of his trademarks, but for a brief period in the early 1990s, he wore a decidedly different outfit, one that provoked fan ire at the time. Now writer D.G. Chichester, who guided Daredevil’s adventures during this time, returns with a brand-new miniseries, titled Daredevil: Black Armor.

Marvel revealed more details about Daredevil: Black Armor #1 at its retailer panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.

Woody Allen Plans To Retire From Directing After His Next Movie
Image
Woody Allen says that he intends to retire from directing after his next movie, "Wasp 22," which is set in Paris and will begin filming later this month.

The news broke in an interview with Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia (via Variety), where the 86-year-old Allen said that "my idea, in principle, is not to make more movies and focus on writing." The "in principle" suggests that these retirement plans are not entirely fixed, and may potentially be a "retirement" in the Hayao Miyazaki sense of the word. For now, though, Allen's intention is to finish his current film and then focus on writing a novel.

This announcement isn't entirely out of the blue. In an interview with Alec Baldwin livestreamed on Instagram earlier this year, Allen indicated that his retirement from filmmaking was imminent, pointing to the decline of the theatrical experience as the reason:

"I'll probably make at least one more movie.

Cate Blanchett Says Todd Field’s ‘Tar’ Is About A “Fall From Grace” & Talks Finally Working With Pedro Almodóvar

Earlier this year, Film at Lincoln Center announced Cate Blanchett as the recipient of the organization’s 47th Chaplin Award, presented earlier this week (April 25) at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Congrats to her, and in the lead-up to this event, Blanchett appeared on The Film Comment Podcast to discuss her entire career.

While she touched upon many great classic works of the past, including Todd Haynes‘ “I’m Not There” (where she played a version of Bob Dylan) and Jim Jarmusch‘s “Coffee & Cigarettes” (where she played two versions of herself), one of the most exciting parts of the conversation centered on her future projects Pedro Almodóvar‘s “A Manual For Cleaning Women,” and Todd Field‘s long-awaited new feature “Tár,” his first film since 2006’s “Little Children.

‘A Fall from Grace’: Film Review
Crystal Fox in Rupture fatale (2020)
Why stay in your lane when you can veer into other roadways with your own turbo-charged vehicles? With “A Fall from Grace,” mogul Tyler Perry swerves back and forth between his usual woman-centered melodrama and a quasi-thriller. Shot over just five days in late 2019,

As is his intriguing way, however, Perry delivers some grace notes with the casting. Crystal Fox is especially compelling when playing the title character in her jailhouse state, defeated and shell-shocked. Over the years, a number of stellar female actors have tithed their time to the church of Tyler Perry. Here it’s Perry regulars Cicely Tyson, in an understated but pivotal turn, touching for its frailty, and Phylicia Rashad as Grace’s deeply supportive best friend, Sarah.

We first learn about Grace Waters from incessant chatter on the car radio as 26-year-old public defender Jasmine Bryant heads to the office. Bresha Webb plays the reluctant...

Matt LeBlanc in Episodes (2011)
‘Episodes’ Creators Preview the Final Season of Matt LeBlanc’s Showtime Comedy and Unveil Why It Had To End
Matt LeBlanc in Episodes (2011)
When “Episodes” premieres its final season at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday, April 30, it will mark the first time new episodes have aired in over two years. The Season 4 finale of Matt LeBlanc’s scathing Hollywood satire debuted in March 2015, and even though the award-winning Showtime comedy has taken year-plus breaks before, we still don’t have an official release date from Showtime for Season 5.

If the wait has been hard on fans, they should know the creators are pained, as well.

“It’s been torturous, actually,” co-creator Jeffrey Klarik said in an interview with IndieWire. “We finished on June 3 [2016]. The show is done and ready to air. As soon as Showtime finds a time for us, we’ll be on.”

“We can’t wait to get back on the air,” fellow co-creator David Crane said. “It’s been a drawn out process because Jeffrey and I write all the episodes.

Grimm Recap: And For My Next Trick, I'll Pull a Renard Out of a Hat
David Giuntoli in Grimm (2011)
Need to catch up? Check out the previous Grimm recap here.

If this week’s Grimm has a lesson to impart, it’s that even when you’re fighting heinous evil, there’s always time for a little slapstick.

While the supernatural drama doesn’t go full Three Stooges on us in “Oh Captain, My Captain” — there is, after all, a power-hungry mayor-elect to take down — it certainly saved its zaniest installment in recent memory for star David Giuntoli to direct.

It’s a little silly, sure, but it’s also fun to see Grimm ham it up a little in its final season.
