When you've been an integral part of a sitcom phenomenon that's been popular for over a decade, it can be easy for people to just see an actor in the confines of their character. It may seem impossible to look at Jim Parsons and not think of Sheldon Cooper, but his work in "Hidden Figures" and "The Boys in the Band" shows an actor that's able to break free beyond the "bazinga" stigma. Simon Helberg has certainly had one of the most interesting careers of the "Big Bang Theory" bunch, having directed his own feature ("We'll Never Have Paris") in addition to starring in films directed by Leos Carax ("Annette") and the Coen Brothers ("A Serious Man").
But since the show's finale, it's Kaley Cuoco who has remained the most prevalent in the spotlight. Although she made waves in 2020 with the critically acclaimed Max original series "The Flight Attendant," she's...

One of the best parts about the Back to the Future franchise is how all three films are interconnected and show how time travel can change the world of Hill Valley and the people in it. Some of those changes are big, like George McFly (Crispin Glover) going from a coward to, with his son Marty's (Michael J. Fox) help, becoming a young man who stands up to Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) in his second chance. This creates a more successful George in the new 1985. Using Easter eggs was also a fun way to show those time travel changes in smaller ways that emphasized the detail put into the little things. The best example of this is the mall where Marty starts his journey with Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). In Back to the Future Part III, the trilogy came full circle with a mistake Marty made in the 1985 original.

Gale, who co-wrote the first film with Robert Zemeckis and then took care of the rest by himself, candidly says "F**k you" to all those who keep asking. And that's a direct quote.
The writer joined Christopher Lloyd (Emmett "Doc" Brown) and Lea Thompson at the Saturn Awards to talk about the legacy of the franchise. Per Collider, Gale is in tune with what Zemeckis and others have said in the past:

The Back to the Future trilogy's legacy as one of the best sci-fi franchises is undeniable. In a current landscape where all the fan-favorite projects are getting rebooted or remade, some people would love to see the Back to the Future franchise continue.

As one of the most beloved movie trilogies of all time, Back to the Future has no shortage of iconic scenes. High school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) are one of the most well-known duos in cinematic history as they travel to the past and future via a DeLorean time machine. Back to the Future's various timelines spanning from 1885 to 2015 allow the story to continue for three movies and keep the trilogy engaging.
The movies' iconic nature is largely grounded in Back to the Future's best quotes, ranging from Doc Brown's "Great Scott!" to Marty saying, "Nobody calls me chicken!" Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future trilogy is pure 1980s nostalgia. The first film came out in 1985 during the height of Michael J. Fox's fame as Alex P. Keaton on the very popular TV series Family Ties. It was by far the biggest box office draw of the year and led to two sequels filmed at the same time: 1989's Back to the Future Part II and 1990's Back to the Future Part III. If you're of a certain age, you can't watch those movies and not be transported back to your childhood. From the look of the DeLorean, Marty McFly's truck, as well as the Pepsi tie-ins, it's truly nostalgia overload. In Back to the Future Part II, it's Marty himself who gets to experience the nostalgia. He might be thirty years in the future this time, but when he walks into the Cafe 80s, it's almost like he's back home.

The Back to the Future franchise was a smash hit, but the story never progressed beyond Back to the Future Part III. Of course, many would have been thrilled if Back to the Future 4 had become a reality. These movies are cult classics, and the fact that Marty McFly's story revolves around time travel makes a sequel possible in just about any decade. According to Back to the Future creators Rober Zemeckis and Bob Gale, Universal has continued to poke and prod them for another movie to continue the story. However, Back to the Future 4 has yet to happen.
Back to the Future was initially meant to be a standalone movie. Although relatively obscure, Back to the Future's forgotten sequel continues Doc Brown's story and even presents a new and upgraded version of the DeLorean. However, the DeLorean gained newfound fame when it was featured as the central time machine in the first Back to the Future movie.

Back to the Future 4 might never get made, but there is an official sequel to the original Back to the Future trilogy that made Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown the star of the franchise. Robert Zemeckis has made it perfectly clear that he’s not interested in continuing the Back to the Future series with a fourth movie, and he won’t let any other filmmaker or money-grubbing studio do it for him. This is probably for the best — those legacy sequels rarely work out — but it is a shame that this story is over.
It would’ve been a joy to see Doc and Marty McFly share the screen one last time for one last time-traveling adventure. The franchise has continued in the form of video games and a stage musical, but none of them have been a direct continuation of the cinematic saga; it’s not the same...

Although the wait between the first and second Back to the Future movies was torturous for some, fans didn't have to wait long for Back to the Future Part III (and for good reason). The popular, acclaimed franchise, created by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, follows Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown, an unlikely time-traveling duo. Over the course of the three movies, Marty and Doc find themselves in various precarious situations, whether in the past, present, or future. In Back to the Future Part III, Marty and Doc travel to 1885.
Following the ending of Back to the Future Part II, Back to the Future Part III picks up right where the previous movie left off with Marty working to save Doc, who gets trapped in 1885. However, once he gets there, Marty realizes returning home with Doc will be more complicated than previously thought.

Bringing a major movie franchise to an end is no easy feat. Finding a way to give every character/story a satisfying conclusion is surely a daunting task for any filmmaker, particularly when the series has been building for many years. Sadly, many final films tend to leave fans rather underwhelmed, with franchises wasting their best possible endings. Whether they felt rushed, incomplete, or had some other flaw altogether, so many finales have brought more disappointment than excitement upon their release.
Fortunately, this is not the case for every franchise. Every so often, a film comes around that serves as the perfect ending to a beloved series of movies. In the best movie endings, all the storylines are wrapped up, the character arcs are completed, and the audience can walk away feeling satisfied with what they just saw (even if they do feel a bit sad that the series has...

Threequels can be hit-and-miss, but the best ones build on the two movies that came before them with their own original ideas. Sequels are already notoriously difficult, so a second sequel can be a step too far for many franchises. Alien 3, Batman Forever and Home Alone 3 are just a few examples of terrible threequels that followed two great movies. Fortunately, not all franchises follow this trend.
A great threequel can often be the perfect finale to a trilogy. Some of the best trilogies of all time are only held in such high esteem because they end their stories with such aplomb, like The Lord of the Rings, the original Star Wars trilogy and Back to the Future. In other cases, a threequel can set a franchise up for a long and successful run. While episodic franchises like James Bond or the Dollars trilogy have great third movies, these...

Director Robert Zemeckis is used to conjuring the impossible.
In “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” he had flesh-and-blood actors like Bob Hoskins convincingly interact with animated characters; with “Forrest Gump” he had the title character (essayed by Tom Hanks) meet famous historical figures; “What Lies Beneath” imagined what would happen if Alfred Hitchcock had access to cutting-edge visual effects. He made three entire movies exclusively using performance capture technology. And on and on and on.
His latest film “Here,” which is now playing in theaters, offered a different sort of challenge – the entire movie is told from a fixed vantagepoint, through various eras. The camera never moves. It begins in prehistoric times, eventually settling into a handful of suburban living rooms throughout the years. The one we chiefly focus on is the home of Hanks and Robin Wright, both “Forrest Gump” alums, who begin in the 1960s and travel through modern day.

The Back to the Future franchise includes three feature films, and director Robert Zemeckis has long maintained that there will never be a sequel to Back to the Future Part III. However, he's still open to making another kind of film for the franchise.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Zemeckis was asked if there were any different kinds of projects he'd like to take on in the future, such as his first musical. The director said that he'd be up to make a feature film version of Back to the Future: The Musical, the hit musical inspired by the film with music by Alan Silvestri and lyrics by Glen Ballard. Zemeckis even revealed that he'd pitched this idea to Universal, but the pitch was not greenlit.

A character besides Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future Part III was actually teased by a subtle line in the first movie. Given the ever-changing timelines of the Back to the Future trilogy, each film had the opportunity to play around with its older, younger, and alternate versions of its main characters. This led to several actors playing multiple roles in Back to the Future, including main cast members like Fox, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson.
Aside from some obvious Back to the Future recastings, the actors in each installment remained the same across the trilogy. This allowed the series to feel connected and thoroughly planned out in a way many modern trilogies do not. Michael J. Fox was a big factor in this. The film was written by Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis and directed by Zemeckis.

As far as classic trilogies go, Back to the Future has to rank at the top of the pantheon. Yet, it’s always felt as if their third film, Back to the Future: Part III, which features Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly going back in time to rescue Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) from the old west, always went a little underappreciated by fans. Why?
Truth be told, as good as the two sequels are, neither quite manages to outshine the 1985 original, which ranks as perhaps the most impeccably crafted blockbuster of all time. For his follow-ups, Robert Zemeckis was ahead of his time in that he shot both movies back to back as one giant film, allowing him to release them six months apart, at Christmas of 1989 and the Summer of 1990. In fact, Back to the Future: Part II ended with a trailer for the third film.

In 1990, the Back to the Future franchise avoided a major trilogy problem that other series often fall victim to. Back to the Future has been widely considered one of the best movies of all time, ever since it was released in 1985. Not only is the original film widely regarded as a classic, its two sequels have also been heavily praised in the decades since they were released. The quality of the Back to the Future franchise is so high that it even avoided a very common problem sequels often run into.
There are very few sequels that can live up to the movie they're following, and even fewer sequels are more famous than the original film. While Back to the Future's sequels didn't manage to outshine the original, they did manage to beat several other notable franchises. Christopher Lloyd and Back to the Future's iconic DeLorean car have reunited in a new video. Lloyd first played Dr. Emmett Brown, usually referred to as Doc Brown, in Back to the Future. He later reprised the role in Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III. While Doc Brown had many inventions, his most famous was the DeLorean car which served as a time machine used by him and Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) as they traveled into the past and the future.
DeLorean Labs has now released a Back to the Future-style video of Lloyd playing himself as he opens a DeLorean Time Capsule. Directed by filmmaker Allan Ungar, who previously directed the feature film Bandit, the nostalgic video introduces the Time Capsule collection, as Lloyd has the item handed to him by a mysterious individual emerging from a DeLorean. Back to the Future is one of the most beloved and entertaining film franchises of the 1980s. Marty McFly's exploits with Doc Brown in their time-traveling DeLorean have been homaged and parodied through various forms of media for decades. However, the 1985 original experienced numerous speed bumps, most notably the recasting of Marty McFly, the main character. Although that challenge was met, it wasn't the last recast the franchise endured.
In the Back to the Future movies, specifically the 1989 sequel, the story is centered around the future of Marty and his girlfriend, Jennifer. According to Doc Brown, in their son's future, he is potentially going to be framed and sent to prison. Doc and Marty travel to the future to prevent that but inadvertently cause another dilemma that forces them back another 60 years. However, one of the big changes in the film occurs in the first few minutes. Claudia Wells,...

As a filmmaker, knowing the right balance to tell the perfect cinematic story can be challenging. While on set, you film everything you think you’ll need to create a great film, but when you hit the editing bay, you realize that some stuff may not work. Scenes that add different aspects may end up on the cutting room floor. Not all of them actually take away from the film, but they add some more layers to it that add a lot. It could be a case of budget or just for time, but some things need to be chopped. What are some deleted scenes that changed the movie?

Veteran actor Christopher Lloyd has had dozens of roles over the course of his career, but perhaps none have been as big for him as Emmett "Doc" Brown. Over the course of three Back to the Future feature films, Lloyd co-starred alongside Michael J. Fox, and looking back, he's amazed at just how much the movies mean to so many people.
Per Variety, Lloyd recently reflected on his time spent in the Back to the Future franchise. He shared how he's still frequently told by fans that watching Back to the Future had such a big impact on them, even nearly four full decades since the original movie's release. Lloyd noted how even doctors and scientists are among those who very much love the franchise.

A strong case could be made that Mel Brooks co-writing and directing "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" in the same year (1974) is one of the greatest filmmaking one-two punches of the 20th century. It's hard enough to make a single comedy that becomes a stone cold classic, but for both of them to have such fantastic reputations 50 years later (despite "Blazing Saddles" having some aspects in it that don't age well for modern viewers) makes this achievement downright legendary. Of course, the fact that these movies came out 50 years ago sadly means that most of the actors who starred in these projects are no longer with us.
For "Blazing Saddles," a film that was so controversial even upon its release that Brooks thought he might be killed because of its content, that means we've already lost towering performers like Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Harvey Corman, Slim Pickens, the great Madeline Kahn,...

Back to the Future is filled with hidden references to classic films, showing the passion and knowledge for film of director Robert Zemeckis. The Western-themed Back to the Future Part III features iconic Western actors in a fun bar scene, adding depth to the film. The first film includes clever nods to movies like Safety Last! and 2001: A Space Odyssey, showcasing the attention to detail by the creators.
The Back to the Future films are jam-packed with references to movies of the past. In the 1980s, some audiences may have caught these details, but today, most viewers would probably miss them and consider them to be outdated. These could be things spotted in the background, props, parts of the story, actors, and Easter eggs. The creators of the franchise truly made every creative decision with careful consideration and meaning behind it.

Everybody loves Back to the Future, the classic story of a suburban teen who drives a cocaine trafficker’s luxury car into the 1950s and inadvertently seduces his own mother. Fun for the whole family!
Yeah, there’s a lot of creepy stuff going on in these movies that spawned a literal children’s Saturday morning cartoon— from Doc Brown’s multiple crimes to the fact that Marty and Doc’s adventures through time somehow doomed Princess Diana.
Obviously, the whole thing is based on a wildly uncomfortable premise, featuring a climax that requires our hero to make out with his own mother in order to preserve the integrity of the space-time continuum, while also ensuring that he’ll spend the rest of his life in intense psychotherapy.
The original movie is so gross, a lot of people seemingly haven’t noticed that the third movie is also incredibly incestuous.

Paul Verhoeven's 1990 film "Total Recall" takes place in the distant future of 2084. Mars has not only been colonized, but it has also fallen under the rule of an evil governor named Vilos Cohaagen (Ronny Cox). The planet is rich with a rare, valuable ore called turbinium, but mining it has caused widespread pollution and radiation. Many of the Martian citizens have mutated as a result, their bodies sprouting extra body parts or sporting unusual growths. In many cases, mutants are also mildly psychic. To combat Cohaagen's corruption, a Mutant Resistance has formed, led by the mysterious and difficult-to-find Kuato (Marshall Bell).
The protagonist of "Total Recall" is Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a former agent for Cohaagen who had his memory erased and his identity changed. It takes a long while for Quaid to understand what happened to him, but he eventually discovers that he has to combat Cohaagen and help the Mutant Resistance.

Logan “Stan” Garner, a train coordinator for movie and TV productions who often played a train conductor on film, died May 20 in Arizona. He was 83.
Born in Pasadena, he lived in Southern California until moving to Arizona in 2007. Garner was a founding partner with Short Line Enterprises, where he restored and operated 19th century steam locomotives and passenger cars for museums and excursion trains.
After film and TV producers began requesting trains, the company created a movie railroad backlot, which was used for productions until the late 1980s. As owner of the Train Source, he became a sought-out train coordinator, assembling locomotives, providing passenger and freight cars, creating sets for train crossings, tracks and stations and providing personnel for TV productions.
He became a SAG member and was often cast as a train conductor or railroad worker in productions.
Garner worked on over 300 feature films, TV episodes, movies of the week and music videos.

After a stellar 1989, the Hollywood box office of 1990 was expected to be even better – but the film industry got taught some tough lessons.

The new things were working. Everything was getting better. The Christmas party was clearly going to be on the impressive side.
What 1989 had proven, after all, was the growing feeling that big stuff worked too. Tim Burton’s Batman had firmly introduced the idea of the huge opening weekend at the box office, and that a movie could become a cultural phenomenon. That patrons would leave the cinema and promptly seek out the soundtrack, the computer game, the book, the T-shirt, the novelty undercrackers.

Outer Range's season 2 storyline mirrors Back to the Future movies, with characters facing personal challenges in different eras through time travel portals. Perry and Autumn's plots in Outer Range season 2 parallel Marty and Doc's experiences in Back to the Future sequels, creating a familiar narrative. Despite similarities, Outer Range's time travel rules differ from Back to the Future, emphasizing fate over characters' control of when and where they travel.

The sci-fi Western Outer Range is one of the more critically acclaimed time travel shows in recent years.
