Review: “Lego Dimensions” is Endless Fun, Some Assembly Required
The Lego series of video games has been top-notch quality since its first installment, and has gone to strength to strength. When the announcement came earlier in the year that they were throwing their small plastic hat into the “Toys to Life” ring, competing with games like Disney INfinity and Skylanders, interest was high. As reports came out as to which of their licenses would be available in the game, that interest sailed even higher. Confounding the old belief that “It can’t be that good”, Lego Dimensions is a perfect mix of the Lego game franchise, that the company have been doing for years, with the interactivity and variety of the collectible figures and vehicles that the company have been doing for decades.

Of all the unique things the game brings to the table is the play pad itself. Like Disney and Skylanders, figures are placed on the pad...

Scooby-Doo Meets Batman and Gandalf in 'Lego Dimensions' Trailer
Matthew Lillard, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, Freddie Prinze Jr., Nicholas Hope, and Neil Fanning in Scooby-Doo (2002)
Last month, Lego unveiled new trailers for the upcoming video game Lego Dimensions, where we saw iconic characters such as Batman and Doctor Who in Lego form. Today, Lego Dimensions has released yet another gameplay trailer, which features beloved characters Shaggy (voiced by Matthew Lillard) and Scooby-Doo (voiced by Frank Welker) as they get tricked into entering the Lego world. There we see them interact with Gandalf (voiced by Tom Kane) from The Lord of the Rings along with The Lego Movie's Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) and Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks).

When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various Lego worlds, different characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings and The Lego Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Lego Batman, Lego Gandalf and Lego Wyldstyle journey to locations beyond their wildest imaginations, and they soon realize that Lord Vortech is summoning villains from...

DVD Playhouse--August 2012
By Allen Gardner

A Separation (Sony) This drama from Iran won the 2011 Best Foreign Film Oscar, telling the story of a couple who file for a legal separation, with the wife pushing for a divorce. He won’t leave his Alzheimer’s-afflicted father behind, while she is wanting to take their young daughter with her to the United States. After a series of misunderstandings, threats and legal actions, the couple find that there is more than just their marriage that’s on the line. Hyper-realistic to a fault, reminiscent of the neo-realist films that came out of post-ww II Europe, but also repressive and redundant in the extreme, with the characters seeming to throw the same temper tantrum for two hours straight while the story, meanwhile, seems stalled. Wildly overpraised film is a real litmus test, with viewers seeming to be staunch defenders or equally impassioned detractors. It did win an Oscar,...

From 3rd Rock's floppy-haired alien to Leonardo DiCaprio's gravity-defying assistant in Inception
Scene-stealing role in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Inception is just the tip of the iceberg for Joseph Gordon-Levitt: next he wants to see your films

There's a scene in Christopher Nolan's astonishing new sci-fi film Inception in which Joseph Gordon-Levitt dances mid-air like Fred Astaire. He is suspended in zero gravity in a hotel corridor and, after dispensing mercilessly with a psychotic henchman, he must gently tie up his floating colleagues with wire and guide them into a lift for safekeeping. The grace with which Gordon-Levitt executes this near-impossible act is utterly mesmerising. The scene is reminiscent of the exquisite – and until now unsurpassed – slow-motion scenes in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Yet, here in a London hotel room, Gordon-Levitt doesn't look like an action hero. There's not much of him; he takes up barely half the chair on which he perches, tilted forward. Immaculate in pointy black shoes,...
