The series takes place from New Year's Eve 2049 to 2050.
Production continued in Central's Birmingham studios upto the end of January 1991 to complete the 150 episode-run ordered by other broadcasters (the BSB/Sky TV merger was announced in early November 1990), and broadcasting on BSB's Galaxy channel concluded at the end of that month with episode 108. The final 42 editions weren't aired in the UK until 1996 when the Sci-fi channel purchased the rights to the series.
The original plan had been to switch production from Central in Birmingham to the Maidstone studios of TVS for a second year of episodes. Contracts were a week or so from being signed before Sky's merge with BSB was declared.
