In part due to the industry strikes of 2023. ABC had three times as many reality shows as scripted shows last season. Of the nine scripted series on the Alphabet Network, only seven are returning for ABC's 2024-25 season. Will we see more comedies and dramas this season? Stay tuned!
ABC shows (so far): The 100,000 Pyramid, 20/20, 9-1-1, Abbott Elementary, American Idol, America's Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Celebrity Jeopardy!, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, The Conners, Dancing with the Stars, Doctor Odyssey, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Golden Bachelorette, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Grey's Anatomy, High Potential, Jeopardy! Masters, Press Your Luck, The Rookie, Scamanda, Shark Tank, Shifting Gears, What Would You Do? and Will Trent.
There's lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are a major ingredient.

“The Last of Us” is a story about survival, and the show continues to stay very much alive at the top of the Samba TV Weekly Wrap streaming chart. The Max/HBO (soon to be HBO Max again) title has held the title for five consecutive weeks now. And, with its season two finale coming this Sunday, May 25, we haven’t seen the last of it either.
Week after week, challengers have tested “The Last of Us” but come up short in unseating the strong series. This week’s challenger for the top spot is “Nonnas,” the Netflix comedy that moved up one spot from last week. It’s trailed by “MobLand,” a star-studded Paramount+ drama that made the chart for the first time this week after premiering in March. With two episodes left in its debut season, “MobLand” is yet another example of a show that has grown sufficient...

The future of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, two cornerstone shows of ABC’s reality TV lineup, is currently uncertain, leaving fans and industry observers in suspense. Despite their long-standing presence as pop culture staples, neither show was included in ABC’s recent renewal announcements, raising questions about their longevity.
This omission is particularly striking given the network’s decision to renew other popular programs like American Idol and Shark Tank. The absence of these dating shows from the renewal list suggests a potential shift in ABC’s strategy. Still, it also underscores the franchise’s challenges amidst changing viewer preferences and network priorities.

The exclusion of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette from ABC’s renewal list is a significant development for a franchise that has been a television fixture since the early 2000s.

Sports are becoming the bane of our existence these days.
We’ve already lamented that NBC’s acquisition of basketball has decimated most of its scripted programming, to our abject horror and disgust.
However, things are a bit brighter on ABC’s 2025 Fall schedule, which includes scripted programming. We’ll just have to ignore the pesky football effect on two of the network’s heaviest hitters.
(Disney/Tina Thorpe) Football and Reality TV Dominate
Once again, ABC will be airing Monday Night Football, so the network loses out on primetime scripting for a full night.
It’s worked to their advantage, though, and they’re able to stack the rest of the week with some of its best programming.
Tuesdays, for example, will feature the hit competition series Dancing with the Stars, and Wednesday will see the business-geared reality TV hit Shark Tank switch over from Friday night, getting a...

ABC sets fall 2025 primetime schedule (Photo Credits: ABC)
ABC’s fall 2025 primetime lineup looks a lot like its 2024 fall schedule. The network’s coming off a season where it claimed all five of the top spots against its competition in the coveted adults 18 to 49 demographic. High Potential took the #1 spot, followed by Abbott Elementary, The Rookie, 9-1-1, and Shifting Gears.
“ABC dominated this season in multiplatform ratings, which are the most relevant metrics that reflect how audiences are consuming television today,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “We are meeting viewers where they are, and this achievement really highlights our strategic approach and commitment to creative excellence. Looking ahead, we’re all about maintaining stability, delivering quality, and driving innovation, with new shows and returning favorites from some of the industry’s top creators and biggest stars.”

ABC has released their Fall 2025 schedule, and there’s some noteworthy things to point out!
First, there’s no Doctor Odyssey on the schedule. The Ryan Murphy series stars Joshua Jackson, and is one of the only ABC shows that has no renewal or cancellation update at this time.
This year, the series aired on Thursdays, but it looks like the new 9-1-1 spinoff set in Nashville will be taking that spot.
“It’s not currently on our schedule. We’re continuing to have creative conversations with Ryan, and we’ll talk to him about what the next chapter looks like,” Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich told THR. “Ryan’s really busy, but we’ll continue to talk.”
In addition, ABC confirmed that Will Trent and The Rookie will both, once again, debut in the midseason. High Potential, ABC’s other big show, will remain on Tuesday nights in the fall.

ABC is keeping things stable next fall, making only a handful of tweaks to a schedule that mostly looks similar to last year’s lineup. That means just one new series has been added to the mix so far — “9-1-1: Nashville,” which will easily slide into the Thursday 9 p.m. slot behind mother ship “9-1-1.”
“Our strategy over the past few years has to been really focused on launching just a few shows every year, and it’s borne out,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group, pointing to the success last season of freshmen “High Potential” and “Shifting Gears,” and before that, “Will Trent.”
“We don’t want to make a lot of moves, because I think it can be confusing, and it really works against focus and stability. So we were able really platform a few shows. ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ obviously will be a big priority for us.

The second season of “The Golden Bachelor” and new spinoff series “9-1-1: Nashville” will lead ABC’s 2025-26 schedule.
The second installment of “The Golden Bachelor,” which follows NFL alum Mel Owens, will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m., following new episodes of “Shifting Gears” and “Abbott Elementary” this fall. After the reality series, ABC will usher in a new time slot for “Shark Tank,” which moves from its previous Friday spot to air Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich told TheWrap the Wednesday 10 p.m. timeslot has had recent success in the past year but has had several shows cycle through, so they wanted what he calls a “signature show” in the hour. “Shark Tank” is “a show that’s beloved, that the audience knows where to find it, that the audience will seek it out.” Erwich also noted it will offer a strong lead-in for local news at 11 p.

These four titles are only a fraction of what ABC is working on for their reality television department.

The clip-based reality format, hosted by comedian Andy Woodhull, highlights the funniest caught-on-camera moments featuring pets and wildlife—ranging from sneezing cats and playful dogs to dumpster-diving bears and mischievous raccoons.
Totally Funny Animals is executive produced by Rick de Oliveira, Vin Di Bona and John Stevens, with de Oliveira directing.
