Due to its criticism of the Ayatollah Khomeini, the film was withdrawn from the AFI-sponsored Los Angeles International Film Festival. Virgin Vision, which was to have distributed the film theatrically and on video in Great Britain has backed out of its deal, as well distributors in France and Italy.
Paul LeMat and Irene Miracle co-starred in Puppet Master the same year, in 1989.
