Stephen Colbert once slapped Jim Belushi in front of a live audience during his Second City days. The current host of CBS’ “The Late Show” spilled about the “fantastic” encounter in the second episode of the “Strike Force Five” podcast.
During the episode, Colbert was asked about the most famous person he saw while he was at Second City, the improv school that claims stars like Colbert, Amy Poehler and Bob Odenkirk as alumni. After initially answering Robin Williams, Colbert noted that the “According to Jim,” “K-9” and “The Blues Brothers” star “sticks out” because he liked to “slap people onstage”
“He would slap someone onstage to get like a shock reaction from the audience,” Colbert said. “He has these big old meat hooks of these hands. So he would pick someone who he felt like, ‘That guy’s not gonna hit me back.’ And he would jack them.”

If the "John Wick" films are any indication, action heroes could always use a little canine companionship. It just so happens that there's a long-standing aspect of law enforcement where the dog and human relationship is already built-in: The K-9 unit.
You've likely seen numerous buddy cop movies, and even a handful of K-9 films. However, those movies tend to lean heavily on the comedy aspects of man's best friend fighting bad guys. Witness the old Rin Tin Tin series, or the films "K-9" and "Turner & Hooch," for starters. Even last year's Channing Tatum vehicle with the world's most inspired title, "Dog," milked its military mutt more for melodrama than action.
That all changes with "Muzzle," a new film from director John Stalberg Jr. that stars Aaron Eckhart as K-9 cop Jake Rosser. When Jake loses his pup partner, Ace, after a deadly shootout with drug dealers, he...

K9 is one of Doctor Who’s most famous characters, but K9 rarely appears and there’s a reason k9 was never reunited with the Thirteenth Doctor. K9 is the product of the original Doctor Who, with writers Bob Baker and Dave Martin famously creating K9 for the 1977 story “The Invisible Enemy.” K9 was only meant to be a one-off character but Doctor Who producer at the time, Graham Williams, decided to make K9 a permanent character especially because of the appeal to children. K9 was a part of the Doctor Who team until 1981 and has had multiple spin-offs since, including in The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Despite K9’s popularity, the tin dog has not been seen in Doctor Who since its brief appearance during David Tennant’s reign as the Tenth Doctor. The 2006 season saw Doctor Who starting to link to the original series more, showing audiences that the...

Sarah Jane Smith, played by the late, great Elisabeth Sladen, was the most important companion in Doctor Who’s history. She played the companion character alongside Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker’s Doctors from 1973 to 1976 and was so successful in the part that she single-handedly made a case for equal billing for the companion character 30 years before it actually happened in the 2005 season.
Looking back, she had such a profound impact on the show and became such a popular character that there was virtually a rejection of other characters in favor of Sarah, leading to the creation of her own spin-off series. But who was Sarah Jane Smith, and how has she evolved in Doctor Who?

Channing Tatum has a new movie in theaters. That in itself is something of an event, given that the last time the “Magic Mike” stripper extraordinaire starred in a somewhat prominent movie was “Logan Lucky” in 2017, which came one year after the Coen brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” For the most part, Tatum has been fairly quiet, doing only a handful of voiceover work and taking on some bit parts. With “Dog,” however, the movie star who broke out with “Step Up” and “Stop-Loss” before carrying tentpoles like “21 Jump Street” is showing a different impulse behind the camera.
Tatum co-directed “Dog” with his longtime writing and producing partner Reid Carolin, and the pair have made a surprisingly touching and thoughtful look at a broken man rediscovering himself through an unlikely canine connection. Tatum plays U.S. army ranger Briggs, who’s tasked with driving a military working dog from Washington to...

Charles Gordon, who produced such hit films as Field of Dreams, Waterworld, and October Sky, has died of cancer in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai surrounded by family. He was 73.
Gordon, along with brother Lawrence Gordon, was raised in Belzoni, Mississippi.
Lawrence Gordon confirmed his brother’s passing in a phone conversation with Deadline. “He was a wonderful man, a great father a great husband and a great human being,” Gordon said. “He was my closest friend, and we collaborated on films that included Field Of Dreams and Die Hard in particular. He also produced without me October Sky, which was just a wonderful movie. Though he was 11 years younger than me, my baby brother, in real life he was more like a big brother, and I never made an important family decision without his input.”

Charles Gordon, the Hollywood producer whose credits include 1980s and ’90s hits like “Die Hard” and “A Field of Dreams,” has died at age 73, according to his publicist.
Born in a Jewish family in Belzoni, Mississippi, Charles “Chuck” Gordon built a career alongside his brother, Lawrence, built on action films. Some of the biggest films of the 1980s and ’90s were credited to the pair like the “Die Hard” series starring Bruce Willis as well as a series of films with Kevin Costner that included the costly 1995 flop “Waterworld.” On the flip side, the Gordons’ partnership with Costner paid off immensely with the 1989 baseball classic “Field of Dreams,” which earned the two brothers an Oscar nomination when the film was nominated for Best Picture.
Other films the Gordons produced together include the Sylvester Stallone prison drama “Lock Up,” the Jim Belushi buddy cop comedy “K-9” and the cult art deco adventure film “The Rocketeer.

Director Rian Johnson's crime thriller whodunnit Knives Out emerged as one of the best-reviewed movies of last year, and so, as was to be expected considering how well the movie was received, Knives Out 2 was officially announced. But, it seems that writer/director Johnson is perhaps struggling to come up with a title for the follow-up, as Lionsgate has taken to social media in search of a title suggestion from fans.
"Alright we need title suggestions for the sequel! Drop em!"
Of course, they were soon inundated with some brilliant, terrible and downright hilarious title suggestions for what is right now being called just Knives Out 2.
"Knives In."
Others decided to continue the cutlery theme that was done so well for the first movie's title, knowing that we'll be getting a different setting and new cast this time around.

Rian Johnson got no writing done after people started suggesting ideas for the title of his upcoming Knives Out sequel
When Rian Johnson's critically acclaimed whodunnit Knives Out landed in theaters late last year, it didn't really seem like a film that needed a sequel.
Johnson had been tinkering with the concept for a long time, first coming up with the idea for Knives Out after he finished Brick back in 2005. The sublime murder-mystery tipped its hat to classic detective stories, as Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc solved the enigma of an aging patriarch's sudden demise, and boasted a spectacular cast that included Chris Evans - fresh off his run as Marvel's Captain America - Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Shannon. But as the story wrapped itself up in a neat little bow (no spoilers) by the end credits, surely that would be the...

Premiere magazine highlighted 10 movie executives to watch in 1990. So what happened to them?
In its May 1990 issue, the sadly-missed Us version of Premiere magazine published an article, highlighting ten young movie executives, and suggesting that these were people with very big futures ahead of them in the industry.
Given that much is written about movie executives, without actually digging much deeper to find out who they actually are, I thought it was worth tracing what happened to these ten, and – 26 years later – whether Premiere was correct in saluting them as the future of the industry. So, er, I did...

Rod Daniel, the director of Teen Wolf and K-9, dies at the age of 73.
Here’s some (more) sad news that we missed earlier in the week: Rod Daniel, the director of Teen Wolf, has died, at the age of 73.
Daniel’s directorial career also covered films such as Like Father Like Son, K-9, Home Alone 4 and Beethoven’s 2nd. He notably was quite dismissive of his own work in a later interview he gave, telling reporter Christopher Borrelli that “I hold no illusions. I wouldn’t buy a ticket to any of my movies”.
“It's going to sound like a cop-out, but when I retired, I never once thought about it. Does that answer your question? I don't rank with the greats. I made these [expletive] movies because I could, and because they paid me a great deal of money. Which is not to say I...

Jim Belushi has been cast in The Whole Truth.
The K-9 star will join Keanu Reeves and Renée Zellweger in Courtney Hunt's courtroom drama.
Reeves will star as defence attorney Richard Ramsay, who is hired to defend a 17-year-old accused of murder.
The case against him looks impossible, and the defendant has not spoken since the crime.
Ramsay enlists the help of a young lawyer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) to find the truth of what happened on that day.
Zellweger and Belushi will play the defendant's parents. Gabriel Basso is also appearing in the film.
Belushi will next be seen in A Change of Heart and North of Hell.
The Whole Truth is yet to announce a release date.

Director Sam Mendes did a pretty bang-up job with Skyfall, the last entry in the James Bond franchise, so imagine the collective joy of every guy out there who orders his martinis shaken, not stirred (adding, “You know, like in those movies”) when it was announced that Mendes would return for James Bond film number 24. Now, actor Ralph Fiennes, who made his debut as the new M in Skyfall, has apparently forgotten the old spy adage “loose lips sink ships” (or is it pirates who say that?) and let slip that the next Bond film will begin filming in October.
Luckily Fiennes didn’t give too much away, though. When pressed for more “juicy deets” on the film, which is probably how a reporter from MTV would word it, Fiennes replied, “I haven’t read a script yet, so I can’t tell you much. They’d probably swear me to secrecy anyway.

Much like when losing one’s virginity, time offers many a revisionist to credibility where the celebration dulls and the reality of uncertainty presents itself as a counterpoint. In the moment, you pray for it to be something other than a complete disaster that should’ve been left to the imagination. In Hollywood this is referred to as box office. Critical appraisal has little relevance when the bottom line is whether you delivered the requisite precision required when it came to the money shots. To be concise, you either strut like Bart to a Bee Gees tune or you do the equivalent of drinking towards oblivion, waiting for enough time to pass, hoping no one remembers.

Title: K-11 Director: Jules Stewart Starring: Goran Visnjic, Kate Del Castillo, Db Sweeney, Jason Mewes, Portia Doubleday, Tiny Lister, Tara Buck, Billy Morrison, Cameron Stewart Nope, the directorial debut of Jules Stewart, the mother of “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart, isn’t a flash-forward sequel to James Belushi’s “K-9,” or the tale of an exponentially high mountain range. Instead, the bewildering “K-11,” at once intense and archly presented, is a careening updating (send-up? celebration?) of women-in-prison exploitation flicks like “Caged Heat.” A pulpy, psychologically hollow and emotionally indiscernible mélange of phony jailhouse intrigue and showy gender-politicking, with a bit of anal rape sprinkled in, Stewart’s film is too ridiculous to be taken seriously and not tightly [ Read More ]

Apart from being the home of Middle Earth and the rest of Peter Jackson's LoTR movie awesomeness, New Zealand is now teaching dogs how to drive cars. Kare 11 in Minneapolis reports the project, which is being headed by trainers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Spca) in Auckland, Nz has been going through dry runs for several weeks. After learning to shift, steer, and brake, the dogs are now training in real vehicles with the intent being a solo run on a closed track in a couple of months.
This, of course, begs the question: Where is James Belushi? Because we see a K-9 sequel written all over this. But, as December 21st is right around the corner, we'll probably chalk this up to more signs of the impending apocalypse.

I was pleasantly suprised by how much I liked Red State. It’s a tight little 90 mimute thriller with fantastic performances and it mixes genres quite effectively. The HD version on Netflix looks pretty nice too.

Animals: They're a good source of protein. The cowboy's slaves. Furry, stupid people. By whatever name you choose to call them, there's no doubting that animals are both funny and delicious.
But what have they ever accomplished on their own? Nothing! If it weren't for us humans dressing them up in funny hats and putting them on greeting cards, there wouldn't be a single gainfully employed animal.
Fortunately, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" might be the wake-up call our cuddly companions need to start cleaning their own litter boxes, if not take over the world. But if ape-ageddon isn't the right route for your pet, here are some other examples of impressive animals that might light a fire under their furry butts.
9. Scooby-Doo in 'Scooby-Doo' (2002)
Accomplishment: Sort of talking and sort of standing
What's most impressive about this canine sleuth aren't his questionable powers of deduction, so much...

Once upon a time, Hollywood loved putting man’s best friend in buddy action flicks. Tom Hanks walked the dog in “Turner & Hooch”, Jim Belushi played fetch with “K-9″, and, to a lesser extent, Chuck Norris teamed up with “Top Dog”. After that, the genre seemed to die out, which isn’t all that surprising given that there’s only so many things you can do with the premise. Decades later, Japan is attempting to revive the “dog and cop” storyline with “Dog X Police”, a film which finds an albino dog battling terrorists with his human counterpart. Given that I secretly love “Turner & Hooch” and “Top Dog”, chances are this one will eventually find its way into my home at some point. Feel free to mock me. Here are the specifics: Yusaku (Hayato Ichihara) was dreaming of being a detective. However, he was assigned to a team handling security dogs.

Chicago – Working with high level actors such as Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman didn’t faze director Richard J. Lewis. He had pursued the film version of the Mordecai Richler’s novel “Barney’s Version” for several years, and it was his direction that recently got Giamatti (as Barney) the Golden Globe Award.
Lewis is a veteran of television, serving as a producer on the seminal police drama “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” from 2002 to 2009. Before that, he directed several shows, including “Due South,” Showtime’s “Beggars and Choosers” and most recently “The Defenders.” He scored a notable feature debut with “Whale Music” [1994] and even directed “K-9:Pi” [2002] starring Jim Belushi.

Aykroyd has Ghostbusters, Trading Places, Blues Brothers, Grosse Pointe Blank and Dragnet on his CV, with Jim Belushi offering up Red Heat, The Man With One Red Shoe and K-9 (okay, not quite as impressive a resumé, but hey).

They have shared credits before, with Belushi appearing in Trading Places, but now Aykroyd is going to guest on Belushi’s current CBS TV series, The Defenders. In the show, Belushi and Jerry O’Connell play fast-talking Vegas Attorneys and Aykroyd will guest for a couple of episodes as a judge who tangles with Belushi’s Nick Morelli.

Although Belushi has been mostly working in TV for while now, he does have film work coming up, with Dorothy of Oz and The Secret Lives of Dorks both now in post-production and...

In Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, actor Chris O’Donnell plays one of the few human characters in the film. When Sfpd Officer Shane’s K-9 partner on the police force – a German Shepherd named Diggs (voiced by James Marsden) – allows his over-eagerness to sabotage his potential, he is sent back to the concrete kennel, leaving his human counterpart to fend for himself. While there, he mysteriously disappears and, unbeknownst to his human partner, ends up in the subterranean base of Dog HQ, the nexus of worldwide canine operations, where he has been called on to helps save the world.
During an interview to promote the film, Chris O’Donnell, who currently plays Special Agent G. Callen on the popular television series NCIS: Los Angeles, talked about making movies his kids can see and juggling film roles with his TV show, which he hinted will have some big changes in the upcoming season.

Instead, Matthew Vaughn's rather good new superhero movie is lumbered with soundtrack snippets from 28 Days Later and Sunshine
Don't get me wrong, I loved Kick-Ass. From beginning to end the film is a joy, a pleasant surprise to someone like me who had been massively unimpressed with Matthew Vaughn's previous movies, Layer Cake and Stardust. Both those films seemed to be the work of a director who had surrounded himself with a highly talented cast and crew while displaying no directorial presence himself: as a director he made a great producer. While they seemed smug and complacent in their competence, Kick-Ass is far more assured, with much more verve and character. It's up there with Iron Man and The Dark Knight as one of those superhero movies that does so much right that it'd be churlish to even mention any shortcomings. So, this is me being churlish.
