Developer Vixa Games’ Cthulhu-inspired Survival Horror title Edge of Sanity will launch on September 13. Not only that, but the game has an updated demo available for you to try, which includes a full English voiceover for Carter, the main character. At launch, Edge of Sanity will also feature full voice acting for all NPCs in addition to the protagonist.
Edge of Sanity is a psychological survival horror game with an intense atmosphere inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Set in the unforgiving wilderness of Alaska during the Cold War, you play as Carter, a member of a resupply group helping scientists working in the Alaskan field lab. Finding the site devoid of humanity, you stumble upon horrifying creatures, and during the escape your group splits up. You were lucky enough to make it out alive and set up a provisional camp to plan your future expeditions to find out what happened.

A lot of horror movies nowadays try to build up hype with critics claiming that they’re “one the scariest movies ever” or “the scariest movie since The Exorcist.” And while that buzz is similarly surrounding Longlegs, the marketing for the film alone is certainly making an impression that sets it apart from the others. In the review from our own Chris Bumbray, he explains that the film lives up to a lot of the claims, “Once the credits rolled, I found myself surprisingly shaken up by what I’d just seen, and it’s a film I’ll need to chew on in the coming weeks. Expect this one to make major waves among horror fans when it opens on July 12th. Will it be considered a new classic? Time will tell, but for me, this was a pretty dazzling piece of work.”

Longlegs’ Osgood “Oz” Perkins is remarkably even-keeled for a filmmaker who’s enjoying the finest reviews of his career. His Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage-led horror-thriller has been the talk of the town for months now, as Neon’s marketing department has put together one of the more inspired promotional campaigns in recent memory. They’ve made Perkins’ fourth feature feel like a buzzy event film à la the work of his friend and collaborator, Jordan Peele, and the creepy procedural about an FBI agent’s (Monroe) self-actualizing pursuit of a Satanic serial killer (Cage) is more than worthy of that treatment. (Perkins played director Fynn Bachman in Peele’s Nope.)
Perkins’ Longlegs enters into theaters on Friday, joining Ti West’s MaXXXine, which bowed last weekend. The two genre pics share a rather interesting connection in that MaXXXine features a couple sequences involving the Psycho set on the Universal Studios backlot.

Someone at Vixa Games must have gotten the memo that we need more Lovecraftian-based video games. And that’s definitely what we’re getting with Edge of Sanity, which made its debut during the Gamescom Future Games Now show with an appropriately horrifying trailer.

Anthony Perkins in Edge Of Sanity (1989) will be available on Special Edition Blu-ray June 21st from Arrow Video
Anthony Perkins builds upon his legendary status as cinema’s seminal psycho in Edge of Sanity, a delirious conflation of Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic horror novella ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ and Jack the Ripper’s real-life reign of terror over Victorian London.
When his experiments into a powerful new anaesthetic go hideously awry, respected physician Dr Jekyll (Perkins) takes off into the night, casting aside the shackles of upper-class propriety as he disappears into the shadowy decadent demimonde of Whitechapel in pursuit of sensual pleasures under the guise of ‘Mr Hyde’. As his wife Elisabeth (Glynis Barber) passes her time in charitable work, rehabilitating the district’s fallen women, Hyde is drawn into an escalating cycle of lust and murder that seems to know no bounds.

Best known for playing Norman Bates in the Psycho films, Anthony Perkins played a plethora of other cinematic characters in his career, including roles in Destroyer and Edge of Sanity, both of which will come out on a new double feature Blu-ray this year from Scream Factory.
Originally planned to be released last summer as a double feature release with Scarecrows, Destroyer—along with Edge of Sanity—will finally get its high-def due on April 12th from the fine folks at Scream Factory.
Also slated to slither onto shelves this spring is the snake-centric horror film Sssssss, which is scheduled for an April 26th release. Below, we have Scream Factory's official details on both upcoming Blu-rays, as well as a look at the cover art:
From Scream Factory: "Another wild & crazy retro double feature (both featuring Psycho star Anthony Perkins) is planned for release on blu-ray this Spring!

Sometimes when actors give a brilliant and memorable performance it becomes their identity, the only role people can see them in. It becomes difficult for them to perform other roles because they are perpetually trapped in this iconic performance. In that regard, everyone knows Anthony Perkins as the legendary Norman Bates from Psycho. But both before and after Perkins played the lanky mama’s boy, he was appearing in other fascinating roles. One of my fave non-Norman roles is Perkins’ performance in 1989’s psycho-sexual fetish-laden flick Edge of Sanity. Though graphic and sleazy, this little film is also visually captivating and has Perkins giving a brilliant performance as he pushes decency. After both meager VHS and DVD releases, this title seems to have been forgotten by genre fans (or never was remembered to begin with) making it an excellent inclusion to The Unseen.

While usually stamped with the “doom metal” label, the Swedish quintet Memory Garden doesn't always adhere strictly to the conventions of the genre as much as genre-defining bands like their fellow countrymen Candlemass. Not that the title of their sixth studio album will do much to change that distinction, but rest assured the music of Doomain itself isn't a pile of somber dirge cliches; these dudes weave tons of vintage power metal and and progressive metal elements into their sonic tapestry, with more emphasis on tight instrumentation, rich melodic vocals and epic-scale production than thick, somber slabs of lo-fi riffs. Not that it would have been a bad thing to go all dark and murky (I'm a huge fan of the whole dirge/funeral vibe), but Memory Garden's sound is distinctive, melodic and heavy with vintage metal energy – we're talking more Queensrÿche or Dream Theater than Witchfinder General or Pentagram – and that's their hook.

Need to ask a favor, folks. Here’s the deal: Months ago my wife and I and our friend John, whom you will meet later, decided to utilize our precious vacation time to rent a car and drive from our native Kentucky to Colorado. The goal was just to see what happened along the way. We departed on a Friday night with no reservations and a minimum of must-see destinations (the Badlands were imperative; the rest could be bypassed according to our whims at that time, at that moment).
I had no idea what was in store for me. Waking up in a national park to find an accusatory mountain goat looking in your filthy SUV’s window is one thing. Finding an ancient video store willing to sell hundreds of VHS tapes for $1.99 each is utterly another.

Hellbilly horror rockers Ghoultown have announced they're working on a "gruesomely epic" music video for the single "Drink With the Living Dead" from their hit album Life After Sundown. This March, the American Cinematheque will play host to two programmes that will send a succulent shiver down the spine of any buff of classic horror and science fiction.
On Saturday, March 20th, the Egyptian theatre presents Encounters at the Edge of Sanity: A Tribute to Werner Herzog, and welcomes legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog, for a live discussion between his seminal films Nosferatu the Vampyre and Cobra Verde, both starring Herzog’s favorite collaborator, the genius actor Klaus Kinski.
Nosferatu, of course, needs no introduction to monster maniacs. Citing F.W. Murnau’s milestone 1922 (unauthorized) Dracula-adaptation Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horror- featuring the immortal performance of Max Schreck as the vampire Orlock – as the best film ever made in Germany, Herzog, already a lauded writer/director himself, remade the film in 1979 as an homage to the work that inspired him so, and that had defined German cinema of the time.

Fusing the best elements of death metal, melodic thrash, and industrial, Sweden’s This Ending has formulated their own cross-genre sound. Their latest release, Dead Harvest, is a perfect blend of these dominant musical aspects, combining them into a heavy, hailstorm of thundering drums, powerful guitar riffs, melodic guitar solos, and vehement vocals, resulting in aggressive album that will appeal to large variety of metal fans upon the first listen.
Although their sound is quite new in style, This Ending has been around since 1991 when they were known as A Canorous Quintent, playing many shows in Europe with metal heavy-weights such as At The Gates, Dissection, Hypocrisy and Edge Of Sanity. The 5 piece parted ways in 1998 to pursue various separate projects, but reunited in 2005 under the new name This Ending, first releasing a 3 song demo entitled “Let The World Burn”, and then unleashing their first full length CD entitled “Inside The Machine” in 2006.
