The summer of 1990 was supposed to be a showdown between Dick Tracy and Days Of Thunder. It was a bit of an odd rivalry...
It would be fair to say that the top five movies at the Us box office in 1990 didn’t follow the rule book. In fact, 1990 saw Hollywood’s blockbuster formula falter, to the point that conversations were rife about whether a sea change was coming. Dramtic changes in blockbuster mentality were certainly on the way, as it happened, but not for a decade or so. Yet the seed was planted in 1990 that sure-fire blockbuster hits weren’t always, well, sure-fire blockbuster hits.

Wonder Woman won’t be taking on Star Wars after all. While Warner Bros. initially announced the Wonder Woman 2 release date as December 13, 2019, but this past September Disney/Lucasfilm moved Star Wars: Episode IX from May to December 20, 2019 to give new director J.J. Abrams more time to take over from former director Colin Trevorrow. That initial release date would have made for an incredibly crowded corridor, so now Warner Bros. has moved Wonder Woman 2 up to November 1, 2019, where it faces far less competition. Nothing else is dated for that early November …...

It's kind of funny, considering what a resounding success the new Star Wars films have been, to think of all of the times things have shifted for the relaunched Lucasfilm series. If you follow the history of the films that have gone into production since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, you'll see that the company has no problem moving things around.
While initial rumors for Star Wars: The Force Awakens found the film arriving in "Summer of 2015" since, historically, Star Wars has been a summer franchise, that movie ended up arriving in December of '15 after the studio threw out Michael Arndt's script and had J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan rewrite it. Then Rogue One: A Star Wars Story followed the precedent established by The Force Awakens by coming out in December of 2016, and it was going to be followed-up five months later by Star Wars: Episode VIII in...

Briefly: After the big news this week that Star Wars: Episode VIII was being pushed back from May to December 2017, all of the other studios have to check and make sure none of their releases are threatened. The ultimate showdown was going to be between Episode VIII and James Cameron's Avatar 2, which was being talked about for Christmas 2017 release. Just as of a few weeks ago, Cameron was saying it was still headed for Christmas. However, The Wrap is now confirming that the studio is no longer planning a 2017 release anymore, and maybe be aiming for 2018 or 2019 but they're still not sure yet. Nothing is confirmed or set yet by 20th Century Fox, but this is what we expected to hear after the Star Wars release date change.

Something must be in the water over in Hollywood, because movie release dates are being shifted around left and right. First yesterday, there was news that "Star Wars Episode VIII" was pushed from May to December of 2017, and then there was news that the new "Spider-Man" flick will be dropped 21 days ahead of the previous scheduled date.
Now THR is reporting that the upcoming "Mummy" reboot, starring Tom Cruise and "Kingsman" star Sofia Boutella, has been pushed back from March 24, 2017 to June 9 of the same year, about two and a half months later.
As of right now, there doesn't seem to be any clear reason for the move, apart from maybe needing a bit more time to get things into motion. The only other film that was also set to release on March 24 of 2017 was the "Power Rangers" movie, and now that "The Mummy" is set to release on June...

With the news that Episode VIII has been pushed back from May to December 2017, the internet has been largely aflame in reaction. Look on any message board and you’ll probably see the five stages of grief being played out.
Disney have made the move to take advantage of the same kind of profits they experienced this Christmas just gone ($1.6 billion worldwide so far). There’s also the rumour that it’s to allow director Rian Johnson to carry out some rewrites on the script after so much positive reaction to the three new characters of Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron – which is all fair enough. Good luck telling fans to wait another 6 months for a Star Wars film, though.
Of course, websites like Twitter and Reddit have been absolute goldmines of quality responses, from well-placed quotes and references to just tearing innocent bystanders apart. Take a look!

There's been quite a lot of shuffling around of release dates today, with Disney pushing Star Wars: Episode VIII from May to December and moving Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales into Star Wars' now vacant May slot. Sony also shuffled around a few of their upcoming films by moving Tom Holland's first solo Spider-man film up a few weeks and pushing the Jumanji... Read More...

Remember Kinvig, Clone, Not With A Bang? These are the UK sci-fi sitcoms you’re unlikely to see on comedy best-of lists…
With E4 sci-fi comedy commissions, Tripped and Aliens, and in-development Channel 4 projects, Space Ark and Graham Linehan/Adam Buxton collaboration The Cloud, in the works, a new crop of sci-fi sitcom could be making its way to UK TV.
Making funny sci-fi on a small-screen budget is tough enough without the additional pressure of having to attract viewers more traditionally down-to-earth in their sitcom tastes. Sci-fi sets and effects can be seen as prohibitively expensive by comedy commissioners (which is perhaps why the best UK sci-fi sitcoms of recent years has been on BBC Radio), and the genre’s niche status doesn’t scream mainstream hit. Over the years, one or two stand-outs have managed to straddle the sci-fi and comedy TV worlds, but plenty more have stumbled in the attempt.

There's a terrific story lost somewhere inside Lee Hyun-Seung's Hindsight. That's part of the problem, really - there's enough different ideas for an epic, even a miniseries. An amiable jopok enforcer trying to go straight. A hotly contested last will and testament. A May to December relationship between the enforcer and a crippled sharpshooter who's trying to keep her best friend out of trouble; none of it's particularly original, but you get the feeling a good director could turn these plot threads into a fantastic dark and world-weary thriller. Sadly, Hindsight is not that film; despite the best efforts of a talented cast this is very much less than the sum of its parts, brought down by a bloated running time, lack of forward motion...

Will Ferrell is hardly the first actor who springs to mind as ideal casting for the role of an unemployed, beer-sozzled suburbanite whose life is in freefall, yet watching him in that very role here, an adaptation (or rather an “adding on”) of a short story from famed Us writer Raymond Carver, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else bringing as much conviction and such an understated beauty to the part.
This is the comedy superstar by way of Bill Murray in Lost In Translation, and even if the film has failed to connect to a similar-sized audience, state-side, to the one who flocked to see that Tokyo-set May to December romance, Ferrell’s second foray into (semi)serious territory (following 2005’s Stranger Than Fiction) delivers his strongest performance to date, and one of the year’s very best films.

It is a glorious New York spring day: blue skies, clear air, a fresh breeze. A day to skip along the pavement and feel happy to be alive. Just not in Woody Allen's world. Cannes -- Former HBO exec Chris Albrecht is taking crime drama from the streets of New Jersey to the streets of Spain and Rome during the height of the Renaissance for "The Borgias," produced by Gallic pay TV group Canal Plus and Lagardere Entertainment.
Written by Tom Fontana, "The Borgias" will follow the famous crime family through its reign of terror at the Vatican at the turn of the century when Rodrigo Borgia was pope. Fontana and Albrecht were in Cannes on Monday to continue discussions with potential European partners.
"There's a long history of attempted co-productions between the U.S. and Europe. I'd like to think of this as the inception of a modern co-production model," Albrecht said. "There's no longer simply this U.S. pipeline that pumps product out everywhere. This is really an opportunity to put together a unique partnership."
