The Batman franchise has seen its fair share of adaptations over the years. The Dark Knight has appeared on-screen in movies, TV shows, and numerous animated depictions. Every depiction captured a wide range of genres. There was the action hero Ben Affleck from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), the mystery lead Robert Pattinson from The Batman (2022), and the comedian Will Arnett from The Lego Batman (2017). All of those clashing portrayals came within six years of each other, and each revealed a different side of Gotham's determined protector.

The Batman movies and shows did not begin with the DC Extended Universe, of course. According to Televisual, The Day of the Jackal enjoyed a huge launch, breaking “a record audience of three million in its first week.” The action-drama premiered on Peacock on Thursday, Nov. 7, with its first five episodes. Episode 6 then dropped on Nov. 14, and there are four more episodes to go. So if you’re not already watching, you can still catch up!

In addition to Eddie Redmayne, The Day of the Jackal also stars Lashana Lynch, Ursula Corbero, Charles Dance, and others. The British series is based on the Frederick Forsyth novel of the same name.

Stella Stevens, who starred with Elvis Presley in “Girls! Girls! Girls!” and with Jerry Lewis in “The Nutty Professor” as well as in disaster film “The Poseidon Adventure,” died Friday in Los Angeles. Her son, Andrew Stevens, said she had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 84.

Actor Eileen Ryan, the mother of actors Sean Penn and Christopher Penn and musician Michael Penn, died Sunday at her home, just a week short of her 95th birthday.

Ryan, born Eileen Annucci, met fellow actor Leo Penn in 1957 at rehearsals for The Iceman Cometh, a Circle in the Square production (Leo Penn had taken over for Jason Robards). The two were married within a few months, a marriage that lasted 41 years until Leo Penn’s death in 1998.

On Monday, Netflix debuted a first look at the upcoming horror anthology series “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”, bringing together some of the best minds in the genre.

The series is premiering as a four-day event, with double features dropping each night, all hosted by the Oscar-winning “Pan’s Labyrinth” director.

Each episode is helmed by a different acclaimed horror director, including “The Babadook” director Jennifer Kent, “Splice” director Vincenzo Natali and more.

“With ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’, we set out to showcase the realities existing outside of our normal world: the anomalies and curiosities.

Created and executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities will be released through the Netflix streaming service in October – and a newly released trailer gives viewers a peek behind the scenes while revealing the titles and directors of each episode! While Netflix usually releases every episode of a show’s season all at once, they’re taking a unique approach to the release of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. For this one, they will be releasing the first two episodes on Tuesday, October 25th, then they’ll release two more episodes each day for the rest of the week. As of Friday, October 28th, all eight episodes will be available to watch.

Locke had its UK premiere in Birmingham this week, attended by Tom Hardy. And us. We learned, er, fascinating facts...

We don't often cover movie premieres at Den Of Geek, but on the flip side, movie premieres don't often come to the city of Birmingham. And as a resident of said city, I make it policy to pop along when someone dares to roll out the red carpet on Broad Street.

Such was the case on Wednesday night when the UK premiere of Locke took place, and Tom Hardy was guest of honour. Locke is written and directed by Steven Knight, who is currently working with Hardy on series two of Peaky Blinders. And the pair made up the list of three people I instantly recognised.

Now, the last time Birmingham staged a premiere, it was for The Lorax, which was attended by Danny DeVito and Emile Heskey.

He’s probably best known in the UK for writing the '90s TV comedy show The Detectives, which starred Jasper Carrott and Robert Powell (which he also directed a few episodes of). Hummingbird marks the third part of his dark side of London trilogy, with Dirty Pretty Things being the first and the David Cronenberg directed Eastern Promises, the second.

But then, Knight’s scripts – as directed in the past by the likes of Stephen Frears and David Cronenberg – have always boasted a little edge and violence. So it somehow seems more natural for The Stath to star in Knight’s directorial debut, Hummingbird. Check out the trailer. Prayers have been answered across the film noir fan base as Eastern Promises‘ sequel has been confirmed. The 2007 David Cronenberg sleeper hit that delved into the Russian mob demi-monde of Britain is going to be pummeling your eyeballs in the near future. Keep fingers crossed tightly, but breathe easy that at least ink is on paper, trying to get cameras rolling.

If only all the news about it were so reassuring. It’s not.

Mind you, with a bit of luck, there won’t be too many problems in front of the camera. The mainstay of Eastern Promises, Viggo Mortensen, will be stenciling on the Cyrillic tattoos and practice his naked fighting for a starring role again. Chances are that Vincent Cassel, Eastern Promises‘ vengeful weasel of a mob prince, will also agree to reprising his part. He’s crazy, but not crazy enough to pass on another shot of offending American audiences.

Cast your brain box back in time to April 2011, where we brought word that Eastern Promises writer Steve Knight had worked up a script called Hummingbird that he intended to make his directorial debut. Things have moved on apace as he’s now got the cash to make the movie and Jason Statham locked in to star.The Stath will play a former Special Forces soldier who has found himself sucked into London’s grimy criminal underworld (fertile territory for Knight, it would seem). But when he gets the chance to take on another identity, he embraces it, and becomes an avenging angel looking to take down wrongdoers.Im Global is aboard to stump up the $20 million to make the movie, which Knight will shoot early next year in the city. It won’t actually be his first directing credit, though: he also shot a few episodes of Jasper Carrott...

Almost a decade after his screenplay for Dirty Pretty Things put him on the map, British scribe Steven Knight is leaving the laptop and is getting behind the camera to direct his first feature film. Deadline reports that the Oscar nominated screenwriter will be directing the upcoming thriller Hummingbird, from a script that (you guessed it) he wrote. Best known for penning scripts containing dark and violent subject matter (Eastern Promises), Knight’s directorial debut is backed by Shine Pictures and New Regency will be behind the financing. The project is set to begin shooting next fall, so we can look forward to casting updates in the very near future. Gist: The thriller follows a damaged ex-Special Forces soldier who finds himself trapped in the criminal underworld and assumes another man’s identity to exact revenge. Worth Noting: Just because he’s moonlighting as a director doesn’t mean that Knight’s done with writing.
