Because it was filmed back-to-back with Massacre au camp d'été 2 (1988) over a six week period, the same set was used for both films: a YMCA youth camp in Georgia.
Most of the characters in the film are named after characters from West Side Story (1961), The Brady Bunch (1969) and Les monstres (1964).
Producer Jerry Silva was so pleased with the way Massacre au camp d'été 2 (1988) was turning out that it was announced during filming that a third film would be made after they wrapped. The script for this film was written during the filming of the previous one and they only had one weekend for pre-production. Director Michael A. Simpson admitted later that 'Sleepaway Camp II' ended up being the better film in his opinion because production for the third film was so rushed.
The hockey mask used in Massacre au camp d'été 2 (1988) is seen in the fishing scene. As it is pulled out of the water, another camper remarks that the date is "Saturday the 14th."
According to some cast and crew members, during production Pamela Springsteen did not tell anyone that she was actually Bruce Springsteen's sister. In fact, Kyle Holman said People magazine sent reporters to the location to interview her and ended up asking him a few questions, including what it was like working with her. He just said it was fun. The reporter asked, "Does her brother affect the way Pamela works?". When Holman said, "Who's her brother?", the reporter just laughed, thinking he was joking.
