Markéta Hrubesová was 16 during filming. Director Karel Kachyna wanted she appeared completely nude in several scenes, so he asked permission from Marketa's parents. "It was their decision," Marketa says. "The director sat down with them - I wasn't there - and discussed it with them. Of course, everything was shot with their consent. They were aware that it was a work of art. The nudity was part of the role and the beautiful story. Plus... I don't think any mother would do that, forbidding her daughter to act in a film by the famous director Karel Kachyna. Every parent wants the best for their child."
Markéta Hrubesová let it be known that during filming she was head over heels in love with Lukás Vaculík.
Director Karel Kachyna had little material to shoot, so each scene could be shot a maximum of three times.
The song sung by Ulrika in love to Karel (Kája) is "I have love in my heart". It was sung by Markéta Hrubesová with lyrics by Pavel Kopta. In the book that served as the model for the film, it is the folk song "Only You, You Are in My Heart".
Based on Karel Zídek's novel of the same name. The book is a vivid memoir of a friend who lived through it all and the German girl he convinced to marry him. She believed it, and stayed in Dresden, even though her parents moved out of the city because they knew it was going to be bombed. That's where she died. The friend blamed himself all his life," revealed Zídek.
