‘Hathya’ Movie Ending Explained: Is It Based On A True Story?
Image
Every now and then, you come across a movie that is an unmitigated disaster and an assault on your senses, and you are left to wonder why it was made in the first place. Srividya Basawa’s Hathya achieves all this in its agonizingly long runtime. Satyajit Ray had once famously remarked, “We have a fairly backward audience here in India”. I think we have come a long way since his days. The average audience has been treated to some good cinema over the past few years, and, thanks largely to Ott, the Bollywood ‘star mob’ has been dismantled, with bona fide actors replacing nepobabies. We can tell good cinema from the bad now, and it’s criminally naive on the part of directors to presume us to be dumb. But Hathya does everything to overturn this conjecture despite its premise being the murder of an extremely high-profile politician from Andhra Pradesh.

Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather released 53 Years Ago, Subhash K Jha Revisits 5 Indian Adaptations, Good, Bad & Ugly
Image
Many cineastes think Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is the most influential film of all times. I would have to go with that. So would Feroz Khan, who’s been in two of the worst Godfather-influenced films of all time. Here’s saluting The Godfather clones, good, bad and the awful.

1. Dharmatma (1975):

Feroz Khan was always ahead of his time. So, it’s no surprise that he was the first Bollywood filmmaker to jump on the The Godfather bandwagon with this wildly out-of-control remake—an almost scene-by-scene reaffirmation of the original with Feroz playing Al Pacino and Premnath as Marlon Brando. A laughably crude homage to the original, the silver lining was the beauteous Hema Malini as Reshma, the exotic Afghani lass whom Michael, sorry Feroz, falls in love with. Hema dancing to Lataji’s ‘Mere galiyon se logon ki yaari ho gayi’ would have probably given Coppola...

Pankaj Udhas: Beyond a ghazal singer only 'intoxicating' his listeners
Image
His career is a testament to the pervasive appeal of ghazal, for Pankaj Udhas, among the foremost who brought the perceived elitist genre of music into the popular sphere, hailed well beyond its prime catchment area, but mastered the form with dedication and performed it with panache.

Pankaj Udhas, who passed away on Monday aged 72, is usually – and erroneously – seen as a purveyor of the ghazal’s “maikhana” tradition.

This is chiefly due to his famous renditions of “Mujhko yaaron muaaf karna, main nashe mein hoon”, “Thodi thodi piya karo”,”Sharab cheez hi aisi”, “Ek taraf us ka ghai ek taraf maikada”, “Sabko maloom hai main sharabi nahi” and several other vintage melodies, but there was more range to his velvet-rounded voice.

Recall the ebullient “Chandi jaisa rang hain tera”, the pensive “Kabhi saaya hai kabhi dhoop” or “Aap jinke kareeb hote hai”, the lightly mournful “Deewaron se milkar rona...

Zila Ghaziabad is today's Nayakan, says director Anand Kumar : Trade News
Decades ago when Mani Ratnam's Nayakan had released, it had showcased Kamal Haasan in a different avatar altogether. Story of a simple boy who turned into a gang-lord, it also inspired Vinod Khanna to come up with a remake Dayavan. Though ever since then quite a few films across different languages have tried to recreate the same magic, director Anand Kumar strongly believes that at least from the characterisation perspective, if not the entire film, Vivek Oberoi's part of Dhramveer Gurjar comes close to Nayakan. Intimate Scenes for Madhuri
When talking about intimacy and Indian cinema Madhuri Dixit is not a name that first comes to mind but it seems the fan favorite has no reservations about shooting intimate scenes for Dedh Ishqiya. Madhuri will begin to shoot for her role along side Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in September. While the actors and director Abhishek Chaubey are preparing for the project it is plenty time for fans to ask the question what will this new character be like?

Dedh Ishqiya is of course the hotly anticipated sequel to Ishqiya in which Vidya Balan played the powerful role of Krishna. Despite the film doing well at the box office and Vidya receiving awards for her performance, it was the fiery kiss that she shared with Arshad Warsi’s character that became to topic of discussion across discussion forms. Given the impact of the first film Madhuri has a lot...

Fardeen Khan to remake father’s ‘Qurbani’
In one of Feroz Khan’s last interviews, just before he passed away, he shared that one of his greatest pains was that he was never able to make a hit film for his son Fardeen. Neither was Feroz able to repeat the success of his earlier blockbusters such as ‘Janbaaz’, ‘Dayavan’ or indeed 1980 hit ‘Qurbani’, in the later part of his directorial career.

His last wish was remaking Qurbani as ‘Kurbani’ with son Fardeen playing his role he originally had and there were talks of Saif Ali Khan enacting Vinod Khanna’s role. Feroz had even make a public announcement at the 2006 Iifa Awards in Dubai and a couple of songs were subsequently recorded as part of the pre-production. Qurbani was the biggest hit of 1980, its songs were popular and the movie sold the most number of records and tapes in that year.

Now son Fardeen is planning to...
