Clownhouse (1989)

Quotes

Clownhouse

Edit
  • Casey: They really are out tonight
  • Randy: [Confused] Who are?
  • Casey: The clowns
  • Geoffrey: Trouble at that madhouse.
  • Casey: [Worried] Where the crazy people live.
  • Randy: Why would any of them want to break out?
  • Geoffrey: [Comically] Maybe to go to the circus!
  • Casey: The clowns... the clowns, Randy, they're here!
  • Randy: [Taunting his brother] I bet you want someone to hold your hand!
  • Geoffrey: Know what *I* used to be afraid of? Still sort of am. The Wolfman. I don't know why. I know he's fake, but still...
  • Casey: [crying] That's what I don't like about clowns. Their faces are fake. Big happy eyes, big painted smiles, it's not real.
  • [pauses, then shakes his head]
  • Casey: You never know what they really are.
  • Fortune Teller: Beware, beware, in the darkest of dark. Though the mind is young, and the hearts are strong, precious life cannot be long, when darkest death, has left its mark...
  • Randy: Midnight. A time for something awful. Something evil. Something real, or not? He was too scared to tell. It was that tingly feeling on the back of his neck, that told him, that told him... they were out there...
  • Geoffrey: What did they want? Why were they here? To scare him? To kill him? Alone and helpless. Sure, he had his ax, but what would that really bring him? Just more blood...
  • Casey: He knew they would find him. All of them. Their faces, like painted nightmares... Sure as anything real, they would find him. It was as if they were already a part of him. They would always know where he was hiding...
  • Randy: The clowns! They're coming! They're coming to get us!
  • Casey: [turns the front doorknob] Geoffrey, it's open.
  • [realises]
  • Casey: He *wants* us to go out there.
  • Geoffrey: Casey.
  • [goes to open the door; Casey stops him]
  • Casey: Cheezo, he wants us to go outside. It's a trap.
  • Geoffrey: It's our only chance to get out. We gotta run for it, you got that? We gotta run our ass off!
  • Casey: Wait.
  • [kneels down to tie his shoes; Geoffrey opens the door and sees a body hanging from the tree in front of the house; a pillow case covers its head]
  • Casey: What?
  • Geoffrey: The dummy.
  • Casey: It's Randy. Geoffrey, it's Randy.
  • Geoffrey: It *can't* be. It's got clown stuff on.
  • Casey: It's him, I *know* it!
  • Real Dippo: I'm sure it's some kids outside the tent. They probably want to catch the clowns with their pants down. Well, I'll give them something they want to see!
  • [Cheezo, Bippo, and Dippo are in their tent, wiping the makeup off their faces; a monkey screeches outside]
  • Real Bippo: Coco sounds like she caught the old man cheating again.
  • Real Cheezo: [stares at his reflection in a tall mirror] Little bastard could've broken my rib cage.
  • Real Bippo: Swell. You would've bled whiskey all over the ring.
  • Real Dippo: [German accent] Ja, give him quite a scare.
  • Real Bippo: A little stage fright.
  • Real Cheezo: [sips a whiskey bottle] Most kids are *dying* to get up there with the rest of us.
  • [an elephant trumpets]
  • Real Bippo: Now it's old Murray.
  • Real Dippo: Tired of working for peanuts.
  • Real Cheezo: Of working for peanuts, yeah.
  • [last lines]
  • Geoffrey: Nightmare's over, Case.
  • Geoffrey Collins: It's just a man, Case.
  • Casey Collins: I know.
  • Geoffrey Collins: With paint on his face.
  • Casey Collins: Pretty funny, huh?
  • Geoffrey Collins: No. Know what I used to be afraid of, still sort of am? The Wolfman. I don't know why. I know he's fake, but still...
  • Casey Collins: That's what I don't like about clowns. Their faces are fake. Big happy eyes, big painted smiles, it's not real. You never know what they really are.
