From Naples to Gotham City, let Max pick your end-of-summer destination!
This September, leading up to the release of the highly anticipated HBO Original series “The Penguin,” starring Colin Farrell as Batman’s avian antagonist, Max has also curated a “DC Universe” collection, including the Michael Keaton-led “Batman” films beginning with 1989’s “Batman,” the hit adult-animated series “Harley Quinn,” and the 11-time Emmy-winning “Watchmen,” among many others.
But beyond Gotham, it’s a busy month for HBO and Max, which will premiere the fourth and final season of “My Brilliant Friend,” based on Elena Ferrante’s novels, as well as the two-part Original Documentary “Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos,” an up-close look at the creative process behind the cultural phenomenon and HBO anchor.
Also new to the streamer’s collection this month are several titles from Discovery, Food Network, and more, including Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki...

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Prime Video is relying on a heaping dose of fun library movies.
The first of the month brings a big influx of worthwhile flicks, including Galaxy Quest, Saw, F9: The Fast Saga, and Jurassic Park (the last two via Amazon’s Freevee free streaming option). Then some other recents hits arrive later on like the appropriately titled Cocaine Bear on Aug. 15 and the Chris Pine-starring Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves on Aug. 25.
August also sees the arrival of a major Amazon Original movie in the form of Red, White & Royal Blue. Based on a New York Times bestselling book, this LGBTQ romance follows a U.S. president’s son and a British prince. Over on the TV side of things, Prime Video subscribers can check out the Sigourney Weaver project The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Aug. 4 and Harlan Coben’s Shelter on Aug.

It’s been quite a year for Prime Video already. The service is seeing huge success with its second season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” and its international espionage thriller “Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan” turned in its fourth and final season earlier this summer.
Unfortunately for Tolkien fans, there’s no new season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” to dive into this August, but there are some fantastic titles coming to Prime Video all throughout the month. From Prime Video originals to hot new movies, here are the top five titles The Streamable is most excited about on the service in August 2023.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

The jury system can by trying, but “Jury Duty” — a doc-style comedy series coming to Freevee on April 7 — examines it through the eyes of one juror. The catch: The actual juror, Ronald Gladden, doesn’t realize the case is fake and everyone else is an actor. All the crazy machinations inside the courtroom are planned, and everyone is in on it, except for Gladden. Will this lone juror be able to find his way to justice despite all of the chaos surrounding the case?
Watch the trailer for ‘Jury Duty’:
Also coming to Amazon’s free streaming service next month will be the five seasons of Rod Serling’s groundbreaking show “The Twilight Zone.” The original 1950s series took psychological insights into new TV territory. The 2019 reboot of the series from Jordan Peele will stream on the service alongside the original. Either coincidentally, or perhaps suspiciously, both versions of...

Exclusive: Sports content studio Game1 and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s production label West2East Empire are developing Braddock, a movie based on Greg Nichols book Striking Gridiron about the 1959 Braddock High School football team.
At the time when Pennsylvania found itself in the throes of a crippling steel strike, the Braddock High team provided hope to a small downtrodden steel town with its remarkable play and dogged pursuit of the all-time national high school winning streak under Coach Chuck Klausing. Joshua Jackson will star in the movie as Klausing, with Kate Bosworth starring alongside as Klausing’s wife Joann. Gregory Caruso will direct and adapt.
Wilson launched West2East Empire to branch into film and television production, with Braddock being one of its first feature film efforts.
“As a professional athlete, I know the power that sports can have in the world beyond the playing field,” said Wilson,...

Chuck Norris is one of those figures who often tests my ability to separate the art from the artist. As much as I loved Chuck’s B-movie action antics of the Eighties and beyond, he has since become an irresponsible voice among the pack of celebrities who feel the need to offer an opinion on sociopolitical topics. I don’t begrudge the man for being religious, but it’s the way a celebrity used their platform, with which they should be judged. I realize that tensions run high, and especially during election years, but at one point Chuck took to his podium, and exclaimed that America as a whole either adapt Norris’ line of thinking, and support his specific candidate of choice, or suffer “1,000 years of Darkness.” Things like this are devoid of any and all value. But boy, do I love some Invasion U.S.A. and Missing in Action.

What happens when you put the greatest action heroes of all time into one movie? You get the epic explosion of badassery that is "The Expendables 2."
Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme lead this sequel to the successful 2010 action film about a band of hired mercenaries. Although they're one cohesive unit, with so much testosterone gathered in one movie, we couldn't help but pit these actors against each other to see who can really be considered the most badass, based on their fighting style, muscle mass, studliness, weapons expertise and one-liners from their entire filmographies.
Whether they're a martial arts master, a skilled sniper or a bodacious bodybuilder, read on to see who's really the least expendable of "The Expendables 2" cast.

Arthritis, joint pain, Aarp… explosions.
These are the things that should be popping into your head (and the head of whoever insures the production) when you think of "The Expendables," Sylvester Stallone's sly nod to the cheesifying action films of his '80s heyday.
Last year's bone-crushing, bad-guy impaling trip down memory lane proved that wicked old action stars can still kick it like they used to as long as people dig seeing big, beefy Republicans punch and shoot at each other (we do). Now the inevitable sequel is coming down the pike, and according to The Playlist more aging icons may prove the easy accessibility of steroids.
John Travolta and Chuck Norris are the latest shuffleboarders to potentially cast their crutches to the side and strap on their Uzis for "The Expendables 2," which will begin lensing shortly in Bulgaria for an August 2012 release. They'll be joining surviving vets Stallone,...

There may be no excuse for appearing in Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties or Braddock: Missing in Action III, but is this right?
She may have earned a Golden Globe nomination for her TV work last year – and he may have invented a special pair of jeans for kicking people with – but history is already starting to turn against Jennifer Love Hewitt and Chuck Norris. According to Slate's comprehensive new study of Rottentomatoes aggregates, they are rated the worst actress and actor to have worked since 1985.
On the surface, it doesn't look like there's much to disagree with. Jennifer Love Hewitt, for example, has never starred in a film that has received a Rottentomatoes score of over 60%. Instead she's been content to ping backwards and forwards in pieces of dreck as diverse as Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties.

The Monster's Ball star thinks this is an awful period for film. But are we really worse off than, say, the Police Academy years?
Billy Bob Thornton knows a thing or two about quality. He's risen to the top of his profession with standout turns in films like Monster's Ball, The Man Who Wasn't There and Bad Santa. At the same time, he's also managed to bumble into dimwitted Shia Labeouf thrillers (Eagle Eye), arthritic comedies (Mr Woodcock) and aimless dramas about the air traffic control industry (Pushing Tin). So when Billy Bob Thornton speaks about quality, you know he's had plenty of experience on both sides.
That's why, when he told the Telegraph last week Hollywood is currently producing the worst movies ever made, people listened. According to Thornton, these films are "geared toward the video game-playing generation. And these video games – which I'm on my son about constantly...

What's not to love about that tagline? Or for that matter, a festival devoted to action movies?
From April 15 - 18, the first ever ActionFest will be held in Asheville, Nc, showcasing more than 30 new movies. The festival opens with the world premiere of Centurion — the story of a small group of Roman soldiers that fights to stay alive after being stranded behind enemy lines — directed by Neil Marshall, and closes with an event honoring Chuck Norris with a lifetime achievement award.
