Given that he's one of the most popular novelists in the history of American literature, it's not surprising that the novels and short stories of Stephen King have been adapted for film and television myriad times since the publication of his first book, "Carrie," in 1974. Obviously, we're all well aware of the many great movies that have been spawned by his work as well as the disasters, but these adaptations are so plentiful that it's easy to forget some of the merely meh-to-good ones that exist.
Yes, there was a big studio rendition of "Hearts of Atlantis" starring Anthony Hopkins and a young Anton Yelchin, and, no, you didn't imagine "The Night Flier" or "Mercy." The television adaptations are particularly easy to forget because, well, most of them are utterly, aggressively forgettable. A "Rose Red" miniseries really happened, and "Desperation" actually was turned into a TV movie. With depressingly few exceptions,...

Film fans were shaken earlier this year with the immensely sad news of actor Carl Weathers’ passing. The star had been a cultural icon thanks to his immaculate portrayal of Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, as well as his run of action roles in films like Predator and Action Jackson. Weathers had recently been seen as a regular cast member in the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian. On August 29, the actor has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Variety reports on his former co-stars, including Sylvester Stallone and Adam Sandler, paying tribute to Weathers. In February, after the news broke of Weathers’ passing, his Rocky co-star Sylvester Stallone posted a video recalling what it was like to work with him. In his tribute, Sly stated, “He showed up at the eleventh hour with all the attributes: the body, the skill, the soul and the acting chops.

Carl Weathers was an unknown actor on a cattle call audition for a movie when he was introduced to the screenwriter — also a struggling nobody — and was told to do the scene with him. The writer mumbled his way through the lines and afterwards, Weathers, nervous that he blew his shot, blurted out, “If you get me a real actor, I could do a lot better.”
Turns out the writer was the actor. But fortunately, Sylvester Stallone was not insulted, and Weathers got the role of Apollo Creed, changing movie history, and his life, forever.
“He showed up at the eleventh hour with all the attributes: the body, the skill, the soul and the acting chops,” Stallone said in a video tribute after Weathers’ death in February at the age of 76. “I never could have accomplished what we did with ‘Rocky’ without him. He was magic.”

Action Jackson (1988), directed by Craig R. Baxley, stands as a remarkable fusion of the blaxploitation genre’s legacy and the dynamic, explosive nature of 1980s action cinema. While it may not reach the iconic status of blaxploitation classics like Shaft or Super Fly, Action Jackson offers a distinctive experience that both honours its roots and embraces contemporary action movie tropes.
The film centres on Jericho “Action” Jackson (Carl Weathers), a Detroit police sergeant demoted due to his overzealous tactics. Jackson finds himself embroiled in a plot masterminded by industrial magnate Peter Dellaplane (Craig T. Nelson), who aims to seize control of a powerful union. There are plenty of great Clint Eastwood movie moments in "Escape from Alcatraz," but it's not just the veteran star that made this a legendary prison break thriller. Directed by Don Siegel, the film was an adaptation of J. Campbell Bruce's 1963 non-fiction book of the same name, which chronicled the real-life June 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt. "Escape" also marked the fifth and final collaboration between the Siegel and Eastwood, and it's a fitting end to their fruitful working relationship. Still regarded as one of the finest films of the 1970s, "Escape" was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its 1979 release and its reputation hasn't faltered since.
Aside from the tight direction and excellent lead performance, the film also features stellar supporting performances from the likes of Patrick McGoohan, Fred Ward, Jack Thibeau, and Larry Hankin. What's more, it marked the film debut of Danny Glover, who of course went on...

Die Hard is a rewatchable action movie and a Christmas classic, launching Bruce Willis as a superstar. The rumor of Huey Lewis appearing in Die Hard started because one of the terrorists resembles him. Despite the rumor, Eddie in Die Hard is actually played by actor Dennis Hayden, not Huey Lewis.
There is a long-running question of a possible Huey Lewis Die Hard appearance thanks to one of Hans Gruber's terrorist entourage, Eddie, looking suspiciously like the famous singer. Die Hard helped launch Bruce Willis as a superstar and remains one of the most rewatchable action movies of all time, as well as a Christmas classic for many fans. Warner Bros – circa 1986. A bunch of powerful, suit-wearing studio execs are summoned to a studio lunch like no other. They’re set to observe an Aikido demonstration by a superstar trainer named Steven Seagal, previously known as the fight choreographer who broke Sean Connery’s wrist while training him for Never Say Never Again. By the end of the demonstration, mangled stunt men lie on the floor while a blood-stained Steven Seagal walks away with a movie deal that – unbeknownst to all – will establish him as perhaps the hottest action star of the early nineties, only for his career to collapse under the weight of his own ego eventually. But, in the early days, the sky was the limit for Seagal, and his first movie, Above the Law, is an impressive big-screen introduction to one of the most enigmatic movie stars of his time.

When Netflix’s “Extraction” premiered in 2020, its elaborately constructed set pieces propelled it to become the streaming service’s most-watched original film to that point and marked director Sam Hargrave as a talent to watch. Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth now return to the adventures of Australian black ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) for “Extraction 2,” a sequel that improves upon its predecessor in just about every way without losing sight of what audiences loved about the first movie. The action is bigger, the motivations more personal and affecting, and Hargrave’s command of his craft more assured.
Hargrave is part of one of the most positive trends in action filmmaking in recent years: The rise of directors with a background in stunts. The most famous examples are Chad Stahelski (the “John Wick” franchise) and David Leitch, who follow in the footsteps of ’70s and ’80s pioneers Hal Needham (“Smokey and the Bandit...

There's a bitter irony in Carl Weathers' storied acting career. Despite starring in several "Rocky" movies and some memorable 1980s action movies, it was a silly Adam Sandler comedy that did irreparable damage to the actor's body.
For most of his career, Carl Weathers looked like he was cut from stone. He survived two seasons of NCAA football at San Diego State University and had a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders. After his professional football career ended, he took advantage of his degree in theater arts and made the switch to acting.
After a few years of small TV and film roles, the actor landed the role of a lifetime as boxer Apollo Creed opposite Sylvester Stallone in the 1976 film "Rocky." After four "Rocky" films, Weathers would star in some high-profile 1980s action films such as "Predator" and "Action Jackson." He would also star as a police detective in...

Quentin Tarantino took a revolutionary and non-linear approach to narrative filmmaking in his first two features, "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction." The latter film tells three intertwining stories, the operative word here being "intertwining." None of these stories stand on their own, and Tarantino isn't afraid to admit that. What makes "Pulp Fiction" so unique is not each of its individual characters or stories, but the way they are woven together.
The writer-director has often said that his films are set in the "Quentin universe" as he described it to The New York Times. The characters all operate within the same world, apart from ours, that abides by a different logic — Tarantino's logic.
He's a film lover, but he wanted to take some beloved cinematic tropes and collage them together to create something more novelistic than traditionally dramatic. One homage, one quirky moment, and one big twist aren't enough for...

The first project emerging from the deal will be the film Play Dirty, in which Downey Jr. (Marvel’s Avengers franchise) is set to star as Parker, a professional thief who approaches his job with a straightforward, no-nonsense work ethic. Actress Armelia McQueen, known for her roles in Broadway’s “Ain’t Misbehavin'” and the film “Ghost,” has died at the age of 68.
Her friend Dorian Hannaway confirmed McQueen’s passing on Sunday, Oct. 3.
“You are truly an angel now. My dear friend Armelia crossed over yesterday,” Hannaway wrote in a Facebook post. “She leaves us cherishing her memory as she was one of the greatest friends you could ever have. The only thing bigger than her beautiful soul was her extraordinary talent.”
McQueen was part of the original cast for “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” which eventually led to her Broadway debut when the cabaret musical joined the honored ranks of theater productions to be performed on Broadway in 1978. Her performance in the musical earned a Theatre World award the same year.

Juwanna Mann star Miguel A. Nunez Jr. has been arrested for stealing $200 worth of groceries. Authorities say that Nunez Jr. left the Los Angeles grocery store without paying and then came back later in the week. Law enforcement also allege that the actor's credit card was declined when he decided to load up his cart and walk out the door. However, Nunez Jr. has his own version of the events that differ pretty wildly from what the authorities are saying.
When Miguel A. Núñez Jr. returned to the store after stealing the merchandise, he was recognized by the grocery store employees and not allowed in. He was then place under citizen's arrest and waited for the police to arrive. Once Lapd showed up at the store, they cited him for misdemeanor shoplifting and then they let him go. Police are not bringing people in for small crimes due to the current state of affairs.

In May, Jonathan Todd Jackson, also known as Action Jackson, was charged with trying to coerce Hart into paying an undisclosed sum for a video allegedly showing the Ride Along star with a woman in Las Vegas. The charges included one count of attempted extortion and one count of extortion by letter. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors said Jackson was accused of trying to sell the recording to several celebrity news websites. "If it bleeds, we can kill it." It was a rumble in the jungle between a muscle bound paramilitary team and one ugly alien. Cover yourself in mud, cause we're talking about Predator. Here we'll take a look at 10 things you never knew about Predator.
Call me the hunter.
The first Predator was originally called Hunter until after production was completed. In the DVD commentary, director John McTiernan says Predator was originally pitched as Rocky vs. Alien, 'though he personally saw it as more like King Kong. In the 2001 short documentary "If It Bleeds We Can Kill It: The Making of Predator", brothers Jim and John Thomas said they got their script idea from a joke about Rocky IV. The gag was that Rocky had no one left to fight, so he may as well fight an alien.
The original Predator.
The original Predator design was much lankier and insect like.

It only took one view of the Creed trailer for the memories to come flooding back. The Rocky spinoff sees Sylvester Stallone on hand to train the son of his one-time nemesis Apollo Creed.
Of course, Carl Weathers, the man who brought Apollo to life, won't be present in the film (unless there's a Burgess Meredith-like spectral reappearance!), so we've taken some time out to celebrate the man behind the original Creed.
Rocky & Apollo Forever
Weathers played Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films, duelling with Balboa before the pair eventually become brothers in arms. A thunderous punch from Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) shockingly killed Creed, prompting Rock to vow revenge in the ring.
Apollo is in Creed only in spirit, but there are still many fond memories. Chief of which has to be the above montage from Rocky III. Pure cheese, pure joy.
