No. This movie is a parody on the original Star Wars trilogy among other films such as the Star Trek series. However, there is a book adaptation of the movie called Spaceballs: The Book by R.L. Stine (aka Jovial Bob Stine).

Lone Starr and Barf are mercenaries of sorts. They have likely crossed paths with the Spaceballs several times in the past, likely foiling some of their foolish ploys. Not to mention, Lone Starr is the only man to dare give Dark Helmet the Raspberry.
