Clint Eastwood in Firefox : L'Arme absolue (1982)

FAQ

Firefox : L'Arme absolue

FAQ

As explained by Dr Baranovich (who heads up the team developing the plane and the weapons system) the thoughts of the pilot are monitored by sensors in the pilot's helmet. A pilot only has to think about firing a missile or activating the plane's cannons to do it.

It's also explained by an adviser in one of the earliest scenes when the generals and Aubrey (Freddie Jones) are meeting about the mission that such a system gives the pilot an advantage of several seconds in aerial combat: they can fire their weapons at an opponent more quickly. The catch for Gant is that he has to remember to think in Russian when engaging a weapon.

Personally speaking, I would say yes. Gant enters the country illegally and then steals an asset of the USSR. This is just my personal opinion!

No one has answered this question yet.

In Europe and possibly in every other country, the movie got released in the shorter version that aired on TV in the States and misses out nearly 11 minutes of plot sequences. Only the US-DVD does features this "long" version.

Gant is suffering from post-traumatic stress from his time as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. He remembers a little girl burning in what appears to be a bombing or napalm attack on her village and he also recalls that he was captured by either the Viet Cong or NVA (North Vietnamese Army) and kept as a prisoner of war (POW). Gant has obviously never come to terms with the experience of capture and still suffers flashbacks to it. Many American Vietnam veterans returned from the war experiencing similar symptoms, which is also true of many veterans of other wars. Every now and then, when he becomes stressed out, the memories Gant has from that time come back to haunt him and essentially leave him incapacitated until they subside.
