Back in the day, when the likes of Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and Harrison Ford were ruling Hollywood’s cinematic industry with their outstanding performances, Mel Gibson made sure he was one of the names counted among those A-listers as well. Within a few years of making his professional acting debut through The Sullivans, he earned his breakthrough with Mad Max.
Since then, he went on to score roles among numerous masterpieces, further cementing himself as a household name and establishing his reputation as one of the most admirable actors in the entertainment industry. If anything, in his prime, Gibson pulled off some really iconic wonders as he not only became the recipient of some major awards but also had some epic salary highlights.

Some alphabets are just cooler than others. It’s a fact. You can add a Z at the end of a title, and it will look badass: World War Z, Attack Force Z, Lost City of Z, and so on. But nowhere does the conclusionary letter of the alphabet feel as badass and high octane as in Dragon Ball Z, where it feels almost inseparable from the title. While Dragon Ball was a pretty popular anime in its own right, it was the second iteration of the show, Dragon Ball Z, that truly made the franchise into a global phenomenon. Despite its popularity, however, not many people know the significance behind the letter Z. Still, the Z is an inextricable part of the show, and here is all you need to know about it.

Australian distributor, Umbrella Entertainment, has stepped up their game over the last 18 months in their efforts to not only bring quality catalog titles to the market down under, but also be the first to release classic Aussie exploitation films in HD around the world. Tons of great flicks hitting store shelves this week, so pay attention gang!
First up we've got Black Swan (review/thoughts) which is an extremely well crafted movie that plays with archetype to discuss basic human conflicts and loss of innocence. Natalie Portman won the Oscar for Best Actress and it's well deserved. Aaronofsky films the movie in such an aggressive way that you can't help but be floored by what you're watching, even if after it's over you decide you don't buy it all. If you haven't seen it, it's one to check out.
Also out this week is The Resident, which is Hammer Films' second release since the Let Me In remake (review). The Resident is about a young doctor who suspects she may not be alone in her new Brooklyn loft, she learns that her landlord has formed a frightening obsession with her. It stars Hilary Swank and Christopher Lee.

Skippy Creator McCallum Dies
John McCallum, the man who created cult Australian TV show Skippy, has died aged 91.
McCallum passed away on Wednesday at a nursing home in Sydney. No other details about his death were released as WENN went to press.
The Brisbane-born TV guru began his career as an actor, training in London and going on to star in numerous roles on the stage both in the U.K. and in his native Australia.
He later moved on to roles in TV and film, before stepping behind the camera to write, direct and produce.
McCallum famously created 1960s TV hit Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, which became a global success, and worked on a string of movies including 1982 war picture Attack Force Z - which gave starring roles to then-unknown actors Mel Gibson and Sam Neill.
In 1971 McCallum was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Cbe) for his services to drama and theatre, and he was later named an Officer of the Order of Australia (Ao) in 1992.
McCallum is survived by his wife Googie and children Joanna, Nicholas and Amanda.
