Warning: Contains Spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2, episode 8.
The mid-season finale of Quantum Leap featured an episode filmed in Egypt, providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the cast. The reunion of Ben and Addison as Ben's hologram allowed for the exploration of their changed relationship dynamic, adding complexity to the story. Ben's new connection with Hannah brings physical touch into the equation, filling a void for him, but also complicating his emotional state during the leaps.
The mid-season finale of Quantum Leap aired Wednesday, December 13th on NBC and left fans with plenty to hold them over until the show returns in 2024. Addison reprises her role as Ben's hologram and joins him on a leap to Egypt, with the former couple determined to find a way to stay in one another's lives. Their rocky relationship becomes even more complex when Ben, once again, reunites with Hannah, and Addison picks up on their indisputable connection.

The Talos Principle 2 has three main endings, each with consequences that can be interpreted as positive or negative depending on player philosophy and character choices. All three endings are decided by a single choice, made at the very end of the game. However, there are many small variations on which epilogue scenes play out, depending on a wider variety of options chosen throughout the game.
There are three main endings possible in The Talos Principle 2, excluding one joke ending and a wide variety of unlockable epilogues. Although some of these epilogues are determined by the player's choices throughout the game, which ending they see is almost entirely affected by one pivotal decision in the game's final moments. None of them could be called a traditional good, bad, or true ending; each has consequences that might be interpreted as either positive or negative, depending both on player philosophy and character choices.

NBC's revival of the Quantum Leap series has been a masterclass on how to continue a beloved narrative while moving it forward in scope and messaging.
The writer-producer dynamo duo behind its success, Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris, lead the production team with ambitious enthusiasm and vision.
Thanks to their foresight, Quantum Leap was one of the few series that premiered new episodes this fall amid the Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes.
Speaking with TV Fanatic via Zoom after the WGA had settled their collective bargaining but before SAG-AFTRA had come to an agreement, Gero and Georgaris -- referred to collectively as "Martin-and-Dean" -- were a wealth of information on Quantum Leap Season 2.
"It will be a minimum of thirteen episodes," Gero shared off the top. "There's a lot of up in the air right now, obviously. The actors are still on strike, and we can't resume filming until...

Croteam’s The Talos Principle 2, like its revolutionary predecessor, does a very fine job of using both puzzles and philosophical narrative to turn the world on its head, and sometimes literally so. Everything about the game aims to expand on the original. Where the first game focused on a single person grappling (via puzzles and text) with what it meant to be human, this generations-later sequel surrounds you with the robotic-bodied but human-programmed citizens of New Jerusalem and asks what it means to be part of a society.
In The Talos Principle 2, there are 12 main areas to explore, each a distinct, vividly rendered biome, among them a canyon pocketed with dazzling pools of water and a hilly crossing atop the back of titanic statues. And instead of facing a single antagonist (the original’s biblically inspired Elohim), players face futuristic versions of the mythological Pandora, Prometheus, and the Sphinx, each...

Venice film festival: Swinton plays both mother and daughter in a moving and disconcerting move into pseudo horror from the director of The Souvenir
There’s real intimacy and emotional generosity to this psychological mystery from Joanna Hogg – a personal movie which appears to come from the same universe as her earlier Souvenir films – or one very much like it.
It’s a ghost story whose purpose is something other than scaring you, a film about the enigma of your parents’ lives, their unknowable existences before you were born and indeed after you were born; that feeling that your parents are simultaneously as familiar as a pair of old slippers and yet also a Sphinx-riddle, withholding from you the meaning of your life and death. And perhaps the only way of cracking the code, solving the problem, is finally to become your mum or dad, to feel what they feel from the inside,...

The best thing about Shrek when it debuted 20 (yikes!) years ago was that it brought a fresh take on traditional fairy tales and got a generation of children to understand that there were more ways to tell these classic stories than the Disney way. The humor here was contemporary and original while still respecting the lessons these were designed to convey.
Now, celebrating the 20th anniversary of its release, Universal Home Entertainment has spruced up the original film for its 4k Ultra HD debut. It comes in a combo pack with the Blu-ray disc and Digital HD code.
It’s still funny, with Mike Meyers affecting a fine Scottish accent for the title character, paired with Eddie Murphy’s memorable Donkey along with Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona), John Lithgow (Lord Farquaad), and Vincent Cassel as Monsieur Hood. To protect the swamp home of the ogre and its other denizens, Shrek takes on the evil Lord,...

Ten years after Zeina Durra launched her well-regarded debut “The Imperialists Are Still Alive!” at Sundance, the London-born director returns with a mature meditation on the effects of trauma shrewdly incarnated by the always welcome Andrea Riseborough. “Luxor,” set in the eponymous Egyptian city of ancient temples, is a slow-burning, accessibly elliptical story in which a doctor pauses from war-zone duty and returns to a beloved place, looking back at the past, uncertain of the future and searching for meaning in the present. The feel is very much American indie, which suggests moderate art-house potential in the States.
Riseborough’s name will be an essential selling point (CAA is handling domestic rights), given the general lack of traction surrounding movies from the Middle East; it would be nice to think “Luxor” could open more international doors for regional fare, though that’s likely wishful thinking. Durra keeps the themes universal,...

Folks, we are halfway through this season of Westworld, and the HBO series has given us a lot to process. It was a little slow to start, but the last two episodes ("The Riddle of the Sphinx" and "Akane no Mai") have really tied things together in an exceptional way. "Sphinx's" introduction to the idea of uploading human consciousness into the hosts is an important one (revealed in an intense and ultimately terrifying way), and Maeve and her band of sundries' trip to Shogun World in the fifth episode confirmed that all of the Delos parks are starting to …...

Season 2 has, so far, been mostly about moving pieces into place, and catching us up with a new timeline of events. But with "Sphinx," Westworld used its timeline shifts to perhaps their greatest effect yet, not dragging things out over a season, but revealing within one episode the entire story of the Man in Black's father-in-law's quest for immortality -- and how it hasn't worked. August 18th is bringing horror and sci-fi fans a bounty of home entertainment choices this week, especially if you’re into cult classics and indie genre films. Titles arriving on Tuesday include newer movies like Cub, Ejecta and Closer to God as well as the latest from the Soska Sisters, Vendetta. Several older films are getting an HD overhaul on Blu-ray too, including Nomads, The Hunger, Nightmare Castle, The Wife Killer and the supernaturally-infused Burn, Witch, Burn which was also co-penned by Richard Matheson.
And while it may not necessarily be a full-on genre movie, it’s worth noting that Shout! Factory is also releasing the criminally underrated cyber-adventure/thriller Hackers onto Blu-ray this week to celebrate its upcoming 20th anniversary.
Burn, Witch, Burn (Kino Lorber, Blu-ray)

Pierce Brosnan fights a feared supernatural force in Nomads, coming out on Blu-ray tomorrow from Scream Factory, and we've been provided with three copies to give away to Daily Dead readers.
Nomads: "There are angels who patrol Los Angeles. And then there are the Nomads.
Lesley-Anne Down (Sphinx, Death Wish V) "gives a riveting... performance" (L.A. Weekly) and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, The November Man) is top-notch in "the most stylish supernatural-themed chiller... since Carrie" (Variety)! Also starring Adam Ant (Slam Dance), Mary Woronov (Death Race 2000) and Frank Doubleday (Escape from New York) and written and directed by John McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October), Nomads is a "chiller thriller [that's] brimming with menace and suspense" (Judith Crist)!
They creep. They kill... and no one knows who they are or where they came from. But when these rootless, demonic spirits descend on a determined doctor, all hell breaks loose.
Julian Richings deals with the mind-twisting presence of aliens in Ejecta and Pierce Brosnan fights a feared supernatural force in Nomads, two films coming out on Blu-ray August 18th from Scream Factory, and we have clips and trailers from the upcoming releases.
Ejecta: "A horrific alien invasion forces two men to fight for their lives during one universe-altering night of terror. This nerve-shredding film stars Julian Richings (Cube, X-Men: The Last Stand) in a tour-de-force performance as William Cassidy, a man who, following decades of frightening extraterrestrial encounters, is now trapped in a living hell of fear and paranoia. On the evening of a massive solar flare, Cassidy invites paranormal researcher Joe Sullivan (Adam Seybold, Exit Humanity) to his secluded home in the woods. What occurs there will change both men — and possibly the Earth — forever. Lisa Houle (Pontypool) and Dee Wallace (The Howling) also star."

Every week, EW will imagine a sequel to a movie that we wish would happen — no matter how unlikely the idea really is.
Mystery Men is one of those movies that you either really love or you really loathe. For me, it’s the former. The hilarious, over-the-top, ridiculous, so-stupid-it’s-funny comedy revolves around Champion City and the not-so-super superheroes that walk its streets. You see, when Greg Kinnear’s Captain Amazing finds himself out of worthy adversaries, he uses his billionaire alter ego to try and get the city’s biggest villain, Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush) released from the...

Martin Benson was a dour-faced character actor who appeared in numerous film and television productions from the late 1940s. His notable genre roles include Dorkin, the circus ringmaster who aspires to hit the bigtime exploiting Gorgo, the giant prehistoric reptile, in the 1961 film of the same name. He was featured as American gangster Solo in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, who had a “pressing engagement” when he refused to take part in Goldfinger’s plot to rob Fort Knox. He was shot to death by henchman Oddjob, and crushed into a metal cube in a junkyard metal compactor along with his luxury car and gold bullion. He also appeared, under heavy prosthetics, as Jeltz, the poetry-spouting alien Vogon Captain, in the 1981 British television production of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Directed by Franklin J. Shaffner, Sphinx is often lambasted for reasons beyond my understandig. It's a fun, pulp adventure with something for the guys (Lesley-Anne Dawn), something for the gals (Frank Langella) and Shaffner's style still shines through the picture. Okay, it's no Patton or Apes, but it seems everyone had fun doing this picture and sometimes that's as good as a starting point as anything else. The character of Erica Baron seems a lot more surprised and clueless than she should be considering she's an egypiologist of sorts, but most of the problems in this field can be found in almost all adventure movies.
Speaking of other adventure movies, this film most interestingly came out just a couple of months before Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I always wondered how it would have fared had it been released just after the Indiana Jones picture. It would have certainly been roasted as a wannabe.
