There Can Be Only One: Cineverse Grabs Digital Rights To ‘Highlander’ And Other Davis-Panzer Productions Titles
Image
Cineverse has extended its existing deal with Davis Panzer Productions, securing digital rights to nine titles including the original Highlander movie.

Starring Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert, the 1986 action-adventure fantasy film grossed just $5.9 million but became a popular title in home video and pay-tv windows, spawning multiple sequels. Its tagline, “There can be only one!” became a piece of pop-culture lore. A Highlander TV series ran for six seasons in the 1990s and also yielded a spinoff series.

The multi-year, multi-territory agreement gives Cineverse streaming rights for its namesake service and Midnight Pulp as well as distribution via other digital platforms and streaming outlets. A reboot of the feature film and franchise is currently in development at Lionsgate. Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame is set to direct and Man of Steel–The Witcher star Henry Cavill will play the lead role of Connor MacLeod.

Cineverse, formerly known as Cinedigm,...

Watch The Dark Knight Where It Was Filmed This Summer in Chicago
Image
Why so serious? Put on your finest outfit and join On Set Cinema this August inside Bruce Wayne's penthouse in downtown Gotham (aka downtown Chicago) for a very special screening of The Dark Knight.

A screening of The Dark Knight will be held exactly where Joker (Heath Ledger) and his goons crash Harvey Dent's (Aaron Eckhart) fundraiser party and face-off with Batman (Christian Bale) in a fight, then Joker pushes Rachel (Maggie Gyllenhaal) out of a window. This is one of the most captivating scenes in the entire Dark Knight Trilogy. The building where this scene was shot is located in downtown Chicago on Wacker Dr and has since been turned into the Chicago Architecture Center. The scene was actually filmed on the first floor of the building - the production used green-screens to digitally fill in the Gotham skyline in post-production.

There will be drinks, free Garrett's popcorn,...

Debbie Reynolds, Kimberly J. Brown, Emily Roeske, and Joey Zimmerman in Les Sorcières d'Halloween (1998)
For almost 20 years, Halloweentown has been an annual destination for many people. The cult favorite Disney Channel Original Movie first debuted in 1998, introducing a world most kids (Ok, and adults) can only dream of: Halloweentown, the whimsical place where all the supernatural creatures live every other day of the year. Four movies later, the Halloweentown franchise is one of the most beloved seasonal offerings, with fans even flocking to the town of St. Helens, Oregon, where the first movie was filmed, to live out their childhood fantasy. (Consider it the original Hogwarts.) E! News spoke to executive producer Sheri Singer and star Kimberly J. Brown about the film's legacy, the controversial recasting of...

Debbie Reynolds
The Cromwell family is getting back together in honor of the late Debbie Reynolds.

Halloweentown star Kimberly J. Brown announced on Tuesday that she would be joined by her co-stars from the 1998 Disney Channel movie, Judith Hoag and Joey Zimmerman, at the Spirit of Halloweentown Festival in St. Helens, Oregon, on Oct. 14. Brown added that Emily Roeske, who plays Sophie in the film, is also trying to make it, schedule permitting.

More: Celebrating Debbie Reynolds: A Look Back at the Film Legend's Most Iconic Roles

"We're having a little family reunion!" Brown, 32, shared in a video message on Facebook and YouTube. "We wanted to do a special tribute to [Reynolds] and her role as Grandma Aggie."

The annual festival takes place in the town where the first Halloweentown film was shot, where they even recreate the setting of the movie in the town square. This year marks the first ceremony since Reynolds died at age 84 in...

Exclusive Interview with Goblin’s Maurizio Guarini
Giallo films have been a part of our beloved genre’s landscape for decades now and it’s safe to say that one of the reasons these films have endured is due to their remarkable musical scores. Italian progressive rock band Goblin, who worked on such classics as Dario Argento’s Suspiria, Deep Red, Profondo Russo, Tenebre, and George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, toured the Us for the very first time last fall and is heading back to the States this spring for another incredible tour.

To celebrate their return, Daily Dead recently chatted with band member and iconic musician Maurizio Guarini about what fans can expect for this second tour. Guarini, who has been with Goblin off-and-on (mostly on though) over the last few decades in addition to working with other musicians on projects like The Beyond, City of the Living Dead and the original Patrick,...

Looking slim and relaxed, Kate chatted with locals about babies, pregnancy and the race, telling onlookers that her five-week-old son, Prince George, was home napping with his grandmother, Carole Middleton. The new mom described her son as "sweet" and added he was sleeping well. Questions and Answers From Tribeca: Jack Reynor
Before stepping into the spotlight as the new young hero in the fourth installment of the "Transformers" franchise, Jack Reynor would like to spend a little time talking about "What Richard Did." Nope, "Richard" is not one of Jack's friends — it's the new indie import from Ireland he stars in that screened at the Tribeca Film Festival this week.

The 21-year-old Reynor plays Richard, a high schooler whose life seems to be skimming along a golden road until a fate-changing accident the summer before his senior year.

Of course, we couldn't let Reynor go without asking him a few questions about "Transformers." Read on for Reynor's prediction for the number of explosions in the action movie, his favorite things about New York and an in-depth discussion of Mark Wahlberg's third nipple.

Congratulations on the movie! It premiered in nearly a year ago, so you must have seen it a few times by now.

Mindy Newell: Life…
Last week’s column didn’t happen because I received a phone call at about 10 A.M. last Sunday from my mom. My dad was having another “episode,” his third. Meaning his brain was short-circuiting once more. It’s called “complex partial seizure disorder,” for the medically less-literate out there. No one really knows why this is happening to him; before this started last Christmas Eve, he was in remarkable health for a man of 90. The only drug he took on a regular basis was one of the statins –anti-cholesterol drugs – and that was on a preventative basis. His blood pressure runs about 110/70, his heart rate about 65; his only major medical problem has been the deterioration of his eyesight because of macular degeneration and he was responding remarkably well to the treatment. Yes, he had had prostate cancer, but that was 30 years ago, and when his Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) level rose,...

The Legend of Hell's Gate: An American Conspiracy (2011)
Directed by: Tanner Beard

Written by: Tanner Beard

Starring: Eric Balfour, Lou Taylor Pucci, Tanner Beard, Henry Thomas, Jenna Dewan, Summer Glau, Jamie Thomas King

The subtitle of The Legend of Hell’s Gate is “An American Conspiracy.” A conspiracy usually involves a large cast of characters and, in his feature debut, writer-director-star Tanner Beard draws upon local legends and has cast a legion of mid-level character actors to spin a small-scale oater epic with a proverbial cast of thousands. Beard should be commended for his ambition, but his reach far too often exceeds his grasp.

In 1876 West Texas, former thief turned railworker Jimmy (Beard) arrives in Dallas seeking his fortune and a cure for his toothache, which leads to an encounter with Doc Holliday (Jamie Thomas King) and his befriending of a local prostitute named Katherine (Jenna Dewan of The Playboy Club). Meanwhile, a posse of Confederate veterans turned...

Watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 This Weekend & Get a Limited Edition Poster
Believe it or not, but there are still some people out there who haven’t seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2! I know this for a fact because my wife is desperate to see it and was thwarted in our attempt to go along to our local multiplex three weeks after our first son was born! She is however excited for this weekend, Potter mayhem strikes back as many cinemas across the UK are still showing it.

As a special treat, those of you who go and watch Potter 7.2 this weekend (Friday 30th September – Sunday 2nd October) will be entitled to come home with your very own limited edition animated poster. I’ve been sent one and I have to say it is rather awesome with the hologram flitting between Voldemort and Harry Potter.

I’ve placed a gif (remember those!) of the poster below and below...

Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 4 - Révélation, 1ère partie (2011)
The Swan House is officially gone after ’The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’
Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 4 - Révélation, 1ère partie (2011)
As discussed last week, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2's production use of the Swan House set in Vancouver, British Columbia was completed, which meant the site would be once again disassembled - this time, for good.

Now, it has been done. The photo (left) is, according to its source, "A hole in the ground that was the foundation for the house."

As a reminder, the Swan House set used for Breaking Dawn was the same one made for The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, but it is not the original Swan House set used in Twilight. The latter remains in St. Helens, Oregon, and the former was constructed similar to the first one (with a few changes - namely, Bella's window space) so that production could be moved to Vancouver rather than the Portland area.

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band: Where the Messengers Meet
Experimental group looses its oomph Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band is a family affair, three-fourths comprised of guitarist/singer Benjamin Verdoes, his wife Traci Eggleston and Verdoes’ adopted 15-year-old brother Marshall. Their 2008 self-titled debut showcased this close-knit relationship; the album was relentlessly agile, its melodies twisting into snaking experimental masterpieces with ever-shifting time signatures and improvised riffing/drumming give-and-take. But on sophomore effort Messengers, the group’s once-boiling math-rock tendencies have cooled to a low simmer, like on “Gone Again,” where a single electric guitar trudges through a bog of troubled narratives. (“You felt you were cured, so I played...

Music: Review: Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band: Where The Messengers Meet
There’s something worrisome about a family band that makes dark music, but it works for young Seattle quintet Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band. With its sophomore album, Where The Messengers Meet, the group puts miles between itself and the self-titled debut it released only 18 months ago, and discovers unexpected edge in the process. Look no further than “Bitter Cold,” a heaving dirge that finds Benjamin Verdoes and his wife Traci Eggleston unraveling a cheerless narrative of madness and abandonment over a tempo set by their 15-year-old adopted son, Marshall. Along the way, over the course of Messengers, swooning ...

Ice Road Truckers - DVD Review

I once had a job where it was my job to obtain truck freight.

As I made my way all across the Us I realized that everything that we get in this country is obtained by the trucking industry. Bottom line. From the keyboards that you and I write on, the chairs we sit in, the produce and food we eat, the clothes we wear, everything gets here by truck.

That’s why knowing this information makes for a good primer in understanding why Season Three of Ice Road Truckers is such a thrill to watch. While not necessarily family entertainment, some of these road dogs are a bit salty, the program continues to feed my...

Pajiba After Dark 5/4/10
Today was a pop-culture mess over on facebook with a third of my friends lobbing "Star Wars" quotes back and forth, another third doing the same with "Friends" quotes, and the rest on the sidelines all "I had tacos for lunch. Hooray for tacos!" or whatever the dumb status messages I don't pay attention to say. Anyway, I have to go from That to playing an opera tonight so I'm telling all of you who participate in advance that you broke my brain. I hope you're happy. Here's Tuesday night's TV:

The Road
The Road

Directed by: John Hillcoat

Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall

Running Time: 1 hr 53 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: November 25, 2009

Plot: Based on the bestseller by Cormac McCarthy, The Road is a post-apocalyptic tale of a man (Mortensen) and his son (Smit-McPhee) trying to survive by any means possible in a world where plants and animals are dead and people are eating people to survive.

Who’S It For? This is a dark, bleak drama about survival in an awful future. Does it sound like you can get through that? If so, it’s worth it. Really good performances and some powerful visuals will be your reward. Clean freaks, be careful.

Expectations: I knew I was sitting down to a “quality” movie based on the buzz, but otherwise I really knew nothing about the twists and turns of The Road.

Scorecard (0-10)

Actors:

Viggo Mortensen as The Man: He has hope,...
