    2 Reviews For A 43 Year Old Film ?

1st review declares a spoiler and gives a good review, but the 2nd writes a review based on not even watching the film ?

Well... I have seen the film... several times over the decades since it was released, and have never once found it boring.

The film portrays a light-hearted view of how one woman deals with the grief of losing her husband after a rather unconventional turn of events.

It captures an epoch of time which probably does'nt appeal to younger audiences who may be unable to relate to the ambience of the late 70's early 80's.

Acting is absolutely on point... Liv Ullmann being the recipient of an award for her role, but not overshadowing the rest of the cast who were all superb throughout.

    Just Plain Boring

Before we reached the bit where I would be considered politically incorrect in saying it was so implausible and bordering on being tasteless, the film just had no pace and was getting increasingly tedious by the minute.

    I turned it off!

    • Trivia
This was a production of "Southern Pictures", a branch of Southern Television (one of the regional ITV companies in Britain). The company had high hopes for the film, thinking it would get a cinema release and that its television premiere would thus be delayed. The film was quite costly, with an international star, Liv Ullmann, in the lead (her Norwegian accent is unexplained in the film) and with multiple Oscar-winning veteran Freddie Young in charge of the photography and Francois Truffaut's favorite composer, Georges Delerue, providing the music. The film was shown to an unenthusiastic response at the London Film Festival, and all plans for a wide cinema release were then scrapped; the film was shown on television very soon afterwards and then largely disappeared in the UK. Little more was heard of Southern Pictures, either.
    • Goofs
The women take a train trip, to collect Richard's car. It's clearly a Southern Region EMU (distinctive orange curtains are seen). However as they collect the car a train is shown going past, implying that the garage is close to the station they arrived at. However the train depicted is a DMU in 'refurbished' livery (rail grey with rail blue stripe) this would be rare on Southern lines and implies a location well away from the destination of the earlier train.
