Parveen Babi had the world had at her feet. Stunning in her beauty and a mind tormented by its brilliance she left us on this day twenty years ago. It wasn’t a pleasant death. She had by then lost touch with reality completely. Locked away in her apartment, not in touch with a single soul, she was convinced there were people out there who wanted to kill her.
Amitabh Bachchan never spoke about Parveen Babi’s death, except once and only to this writer.
When Parveen had passed away, Mr. Bachchan in an uncharacteristically candid moment spoke exclusively to me about her. Parveen Babi and Mr B worked together in several films – Majboor, Deewaar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Namak Halal, Shaan, Kaalia, Mahaan, Do Aur Do Paanch, Kala Patthar… He did the maximum number of films with Parveen after Jaya, followed by Raakhee and Rekha.
Mr. Bachchan was all praise for Parveen’s stardom.

Parveen Babi Starred In Super Hit movies like Namak Halal, Kaalia, Shaan, Deewar, and More. (Photo Credit – IMDb/Instagram)
The late 70s and 80s superstar Parveen Babi is a star whose loss is a remnant in Hindi Cinema. Her charm and ability to translate emotions through subtlety and grace made the movies she starred in more affluent. Multiple heartbreaks, a bout with schizophrenia, and an untimely death at the age of 50 marked the end of the starlet’s life. But did you know she once ran behind Mahesh Bhatt without stopping him after they broke up? She also ended up in a mental hospital in New York.
Parveen Babi‘s life stories are no less than a saga; it had everything: love, heartbreak, sadness, and tragedy. Amar Akbar Anthony, Namak Halal, Shaan, and The Burning Train are just a few of the classic Hindi films she starred in. And while...

Mithun Chakraborty’s Box Office Score Card From 1997 – 2000 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Mithun Chakraborty is one of the most loved superstars in the country. But do you know that he probably was one of the ‘most working’ superstars? While going through some of the data and facts, we found that the Og Disco Dancer of India had done 50 films in a span of only four years! That number just popped into our eyes, and our brains froze!
But it is a fact. While going through Mithun’s filmography, we discovered that from 1997 – 2000, in a span of four years, the superstar did 50 whopping films. Looking at the list, two things were very clear – A. He was a hustler, you say why? Because all of these films flopped except for two. B. He wasn’t bothered much about what people said!
In 1997, Mithun Chakraborty was featured in eight films, followed by 17 films in...

When Amitabh Bachchan Was Told “Laanat Hai Tumpe, Harivansh Rai Bachchan Ke Bete Ho Tum,” By A Filmmaker ( Photo Credit – Instagram; Facebook )
Amitabh Bachchan has witnessed such stardom and fan following that anyone else probably has. After ruling the industry for over 50 years, he has given his fans some cult classic films. He has also ruled Television by hosting the quiz-based show Kaun Banega Crorepati, which recently ended its 15th edition. Recently, Kaalia director Tinnu Anand shared an interesting anecdote of a time when his father, Inder Raj Anand, shamed Big B in front of 200 people.
The story goes back to the time when he was shooting for Kaalia and Inder Raj Anand had penned an Urdu dialogue for Big B. However, when he fumbled over and over again, he bashed him and shamed him in front of the whole unit. Scroll down for details.

He did not need any appurtenances to portray his evil nature onscreen – just a glare from his remarkable eyes, along with his steely voice, and a sneer – where enough.
Pran, however, sought to imbue each performance – whether as villain or supporting actor – with something different, be it mannerisms, make-up, and proper accents. Remember his outings as a Pathan, a Nepali, a Bhopali, and a Goan, or the ones in which he modelled his appearance on Sheikh Mujibur Rehman, Abraham Lincoln, or Sam Pitroda?
Born on this day (February 12) in Delhi in 1920, Pran may not have been a "method actor" but he had natural talent and acute powers of observation of different types of people that he artfully incorporated into his performances.
In the process, he transformed the Hindi film villain from a stereotype to a well-delineated character, who did not even require the willing suspension of disbelief needed for most cinematic performances.

Besides working together in the 1973 blockbuster "Zanjeer", Big B and Pran teamed up in "Don", "Amar Akbar Anthony", "Kaalia" and "Sharaabi".
Sharing his experience of working with Pran, Big B wrote on his blog: "A gentleman to the core, who had great respect for his colleagues, and an immense attitude to professional behaviour. Never late on the sets, despite.

I distinctly remember that fight sequence from the movie Kaalia where everybody is standing in line while food is being distributed and Michael (actor Bob Christo) decides to spoil the decorum and breaks the queue. While one of his crippled inmates gathers courage and decides to retaliate against this brawny white guy, Michael shouts back, “Hum jahaan khade hote hain line waheen se shuroo hotee hai”(The line always starts behind me). Immediately after that all the other prisoners in the queue go and stand behind Michael.
The most I knew about Bob Christo then was he was an actor from Australia renowned within the Indian Film Industry as the “bad man” of Indian Cinema who played either the role of collaborator, hostile prisoner or British Officer.
