Milla Jovovich has hinted that she might reprie her role as Leeloo in an animated spinoff of The Fifth Element. While promoting her upcoming film In the Lost Lands, she mentioned working with filmmaker Luc Besson again and suggested he may already be developing “some sort of spinoff of a bunch of his characters.” This is the first mention of such a project, but it’s already generating excitement among fans.

When I saw on Deadline that filming has wrapped on an action thriller called Turbulence, my first thought was, “Is it a remake?” This despite the fact that there have been multiple films with the title Turbulence over the years. I thought it might have something to do with the 1997 film with the title, which starred Lauren Holly as a flight attendant stuck on a plane with a serial killer played by Ray Liotta. A heavy metal docuseries with the working title of Into the Void will premiere on Hulu in 2025. The eight-part program is being produced by Vice Studios Canada.

According to Deadline, the docuseries will “chronicle the emotional sagas behind the most towering legends and unforgettable artists in heavy metal. It will go behind the stage into the real lives of heavy metal icons.”

Production is already under way on the multi-part documentary, which is being executive-produced by Evan Husney and Jason Eisener, the team behind Vice TV’s highly successful pro wrestling docuseries Dark Side of the Ring.

Greg Hildebrandt, the admired artist and illustrator who created movie posters for the original Star Wars and Clash of the Titans, drew Marvel characters and designed iconic 1970s calendars that celebrated the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died. He was 85.

Hildebrandt died in Denville, New Jersey, his son, Greg Jr., told The Hollywood Reporter. For the past five months, he had been dealing with a serious side effect from a heart medication.

The artist, who frequently partnered with his late twin brother, Tim Hildebrandt, also illustrated covers for DC Comics and trading cards for an epic 1994 Marvel Masterpieces set; painted artwork for Dungeons & Dragons calendars; and designed covers for the 1981 Black Sabbath album Mob Rules and many LPs from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Without having access to film stills and publicity photos and given a very tight deadline by 20th Century Fox, the brothers painted the “Style B” poster for the U.

The director's cuts of Rebel Moon saw improved Rotten Tomatoes scores from both critics and audiences. Adding gore and nudity didn't magically fix the flaws in the film, as critics still found the narrative and character development lacking. While neither version of Rebel Moon is great, the director's cuts are closer to Zack Snyder's original vision.

Zack Snyder has been hyping up his R-rated directors cuts of the Rebel Moon movies since the two-parter was first announced, but are the new versions any better than the original cuts? When Snyder made a deal with Netflix to essentially turn Heavy Metal magazine into a live-action movie, they disagreed on the rating. Netflix wanted a PG-13 sci-fi actioner they could market to younger viewers, but Snyder wanted to make an R-rated movie for immature grown-ups. They compromised by making both, first releasing PG-13 versions and later supplementing them with R-rated directors cuts.

After nearly three decades of development, Zack Snyder’s unadulterated vision for his Rebel Moon space opera is finally at your fingertips.

Snyder had to take an awfully circuitous path to today’s two-part director’s cut release of Rebel Moon on Netflix. Inspired by Seven Samurai, Star Wars, Heavy Metal magazine and a bevy of other properties, the project that was originally known as The Five began to formulate in 1997 alongside co-writer Kurt Johnstad. Eventually, in 2012, Snyder retrofitted his idea for Star Wars and pitched it to Lucasfilm shortly after Disney acquired the beloved IP from franchise mastermind George Lucas. When that didn’t take, he then tried to sell it as a video game and movie to his DC collaborators at the time, Warners Bros. There was even a period of time where he considered making a TV series with Narcos producer Eric Newman.

Richard Romanus, the tough-guy character actor best known for his turn as Michael Longo, the Little Italy loan shark who gets into it with Robert De Niro’s Johnny Civello in Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets, has died. He was 80.

Romanus died Dec. 23 in a private hospital in Volos, Greece, his son, Robert Romanus, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Romanus handled prominent voice roles for Ralph Bakshi in 1977’s Wizards (as the elf warrior Weehawk) and 1982’s Hey Good Lookin’ (as the leader of a 1950s greaser gang), and in between, he played the cab driver Harry Canyon in another animated film, Heavy Metal (1981).

He also appeared on four episodes of The Sopranos as Richard Lapenna, the on-again, off-again husband of Lorraine Bracco’s Jennifer Melfi, from 1999-2002.

Director Zack Snyder brought his idea for a “more mature” Star Wars movie to Lucasfilm just before Disney’s takeover of the studio. While that version of what would become Rebel Moon never got off the ground, it freed Snyder to create his homage to George Lucas and Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai completely in his own way, without having to stick to the established rules of the galaxy far, far away. The result is a movie that plays with all of Lucas’ toys but in a much darker universe full of “violence, sex, and swearing.”
