“Every man dies, not every man truly lives”, declared Braveheart’s William Wallace. But let’s be honest—how many of us can say we’ve truly lived unless we’ve had Mel Gibson by our side, lending a hand in the dead of night?
Gibson, a name that sends a tingle down the spine of movie buffs and historians of 80s and 90s cinema alike, isn’t just known for his legendary roles on-screen. He started with humble beginnings on the stage before gracing our TV screens in The Sullivans and Cop Shop.

And as luck would have it, even when he’s not wielding a sword or tearing through a post-apocalyptic landscape, he’s a road warrior in real life. In an old viral video, Gibson is seen lending a helping hand to a stranded citizen, showing that his off-screen heroism is just as compelling.

Mel Gibson became a top movie star quickly but faced controversies that derailed his career for years. Despite a tumultuous past, Gibson's net worth hit around $425 million from his film work. The actor/director faced a decade of blacklisting due to various incidents involving racism and abuse.
Mel Gibson was one of the premiere movie stars of the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, which is when he earned his tremendous net worth before some controversial events knocked him from his perch. Born in the United States, Gibson's large family moved to Australia when he was 12 (via female). Gibson began his career on the stage for a brief period, but he moved into television roles in The Sullivans and Cop Shop, but fame came quickly after Mel Gibson was cast in Mad Max as the titular character.

For decades, action has remained one of the most popular genres in Hollywood. Action films often command huge budgets, long shoots and demand the highest levels of commitment, ability, and charisma from their actors. Genre fans revere the very best action stars for their ability to make the impossible seem effortless and command the full attention of the big screen.
Every era has its own unique breed of action star. The last decade has perhaps been one of the most diverse and interesting in the genre's history. Some actors find the craft of the action movie to be their natural environment, while others come to the genre later in their careers. It takes a lot of work to lead an action movie, but to succeed in many across a decade is a great accomplishment.

Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo have boarded Joe Carnahan’s police drama “Copshop,” with filming set to start in Georgia and New Mexico in October.

Williams and Tai Duncan of Zero Gravity Management are producing the film alongside Warren Goz and Eric Gold of Sculptor Media, Butler and Alan Siegel’s G-Base Productions, and Carnahan and Grillo through their WarParty Films production banner. Gary Conway.
One of Australia’s most respected and prolific TV directors who started his career at Crawford Productions in the 1960s, Gary Conway died on Friday in a hospice in Melbourne, aged 73.
Conway directed nearly 800 episodes of Neigbours, beginning in 1988, and worked on the Fremantle show until late last year when he was forced to stop after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
“Gary was a great mate to me and to many, many others,” his friend and long-time colleague, composer Garry (Sam) Hardman tells If.
“Gary started at Crawford’s a couple of years before I did. I met him when I started with the company in 1965. There were 45 people on staff back then and Gary was the company’s art department.
“He would make up the credit cards for Homicide and Hunter as well as the ‘fake signs” for filming that could turn an ordinary office building into a federal bank.

The Greek Australian TV and film director behind new romcom Alex & Eve already has three decades of cross-cultural storytelling under his belt
In 1982, Peter Andrikidis, Greek, twentysomething and newly graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School, was watching TV with his grandfather. The show was Cop Shop, and John Orcsik (actually of Hungarian descent) was playing a Greek detective. His grandfather was blown away. A Greek cop in a show about Australians! Greeks could be Australians?

The sequel to his acclaimed observational documentary “Cop Shop” (2009), “Cop Shop II” (2011) sees influential Mainland Chinese director Zhou Hao returning after a year to again capture the daily operations of the police station at Guangzhou Railway Station, one of the most chaotic public transport hubs in China. This time the film moves out of the station itself, taking place during the incredibly busy period before Chinese New Year, and following officers as they attempt to keep the square outside the railway station clear to facilitate the flow of hundreds of thousands of passengers returning to their hometowns and families. As well as helping with a constant stream of people looking for advice, food and shelter, this involves the police having to arrest illegal pedlars selling a dizzying variety of goods, move on homeless migrants, and deal with thieves and a man trying to swindle money from travellers. Shot in Zhou’s usual detached,...

“Emergency Room China” is the latest film from award winning Mainland Chinese director Zhou Hao, one of the most acclaimed and influential figures of the Modern Chinese Independent Documentary Movement. Following on from his recent “Cop Shop” films, which depict the trials and tribulations of officers at a chaotically busy train station during New Year, the film sees Zhou continuing his series of documentaries focusing on public spaces and institutions in China. In shooting the film, Zhou and his crew spent 10 long months in a hospital emergency room and following ambulances day and night in Guangzhou, the largest city in southern China. Capturing a stream of accidents and incidents the film tells stories that range from the bizarre and absurd to the shocking and tragic, showing both the ways in which people sometimes fail to respect their own lives, and the necessity of having a more effective health care system.

He started making documentary films in 2001 and now lives in Guangzhou. Filmography: Houjie Township (2003), Senior Year (2005), Using (2007), Cotton (2010), The Transition Period (2009), Cop Shop (2009), Cop Shop II (2011) James Mudge: I believe you worked as a photographer before – what inspired you to start making documentary films? Zhou Hao: Conventional media is not much fun, every newspaper has their point of view and is just a medium for certain voices. After staying with them for over 10 years, I want more freedom, less restriction. Documentary is a freer medium. In making Senior Year, how was it working with the high school students? The film feels very natural, and they seem to have been very much at ease with you and the camera. Among all of my films, Senior Year is...

An Australian director best known for working on Neighbours, Home and Away and A Country Practice has passed away.
Bob Meillon directed over 140 episodes of Neighbours through the 1990s and into 2001. He died peacefully early on Sunday 3 June. He was 69 years old.
Alan Fletcher, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy in Neighbours, told Encore: “Bob was a wonderful person to be in the company with, and share a red wine. One of the great characters of the TV industry. At Neighbours he was shooting three-camera studio television as well as on location. He had the ability to edit what he was shooting in his head. He’d only shoot what he knew he would use. He was a very efficient director stylistically.”
Fletcher continued: “As an actor you could go and move where you wanted and he would sit and calmly cover it, as if nothing was difficult for him.”
