According to director Luigi Cozzi during a Q&A, the film was partially funded by Colombian drug dealers. When the movie made money they were very pleased with their investment.
According to director Luigi Cozzi, the alien cyclops shown toward the end was supposed to be much more animated, but this was not shown due to problems with the mechanics.
One of the 72 films on the Director of Public Prosecutions Video Nasty list and part of the Video Recordings Act 1984 in the UK. In 2003 it was released on DVD (and Blu-Ray in 2015) uncut and downgraded from an "18" rating to a "15" by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification).
Writer/director Luigi Cozzi's first script for the film was titled "Alien Arrives on Earth," making no effort to hide that his inspiration for Ridley Scott's Alien, le 8ème passager (1979) and that this was his idea for that film's sequel. Some countries also directly marketed the film as a sequel to Scott's film.
Riffed by former members of Mystery Science Theater 3000 Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett for an episode of Rifftrax.
