If there’s one thing I love, it’s 1970s made-for-tv horror films. I remember sitting in front of the television as a kid and watching a plethora of films such as Gargoyles, Bad Ronald, Satan’s School for Girls, Horror at 37,000 Feet, Devil Dog: Hound of Hell, Scream Pretty Peggy, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Moon of the Wolf and The Initiation of Sarah just to name a few. Some of those are better than others, but all were fun.
When I think back, there have been some legendary names associated with small screen horrors. Genre masters John Carpenter (Halloween), Steven Spielberg (Jaws), Wes Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street), Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Joseph Stefano (Psycho) all took shots at television...

Little House On The Prairie Star Olsen Dead At 69
Little House On The Prairie regular and Father Murphy star Merlin Olsen has lost his battle with cancer. He was 69.
A former American football star, Olsen was inducted into the sport's Hall of Fame in 1982 after playing for the Los Angeles Rams, where he was part of the Fearsome Foursome, a formidable defensive force in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
He started his acting career in The Undefeated in 1969 and went on to appear on TV shows like Walking Tall, Kung Fu and Petticoat Junction, while still playing with the Rams.
But he really made his mark as Jonathan Garvey in episodes of Little House on the Prairie between 1977 and 1981. That led to lead roles in Father Murphy in the early 1980s and Aaron's Way in 1988 and 1989.
Olsen was also a respected sports broadcaster in America.

Take your seats, class: Senior writer Chris Nashawaty continues his in-depth weeklong tutorial on all things Quentin Tarantino for the latest installment of EW University. Check out our gallery of 20 Tarantino movie and movie poster faves , our Quentin Tarantino trivia quiz, and our take on the original 1978 Inglorious Bastards. Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds: Playing spot the reference Any time you sit down to watch a movie directed by Quentin Tarantino, you're not just watching that movie, but all of the movies he's ever seen. Let's face it, the guy has never been shy or apologetic about his movie-love. You could say that when Tarantino name-checks some arcane chop socky movie or slyly alludes to a Eurotrash cheapie, he's giving a shout-out to the cognascenti -- his fellow movie geeks -- in the audience. In other words, when you watch a movie by Qt, you're actually watching two movies...

Check out our gallery of 20 Tarantino movie and movie poster faves and our Quentin Tarantino trivia quiz. The Original Bastards: ‘Guys on a mission’ Italian-style If you’re reading this, then you’re probably already hip to the fact that Quentin Tarantino has a new (and badly spelled) new film coming out on August 21 called Inglourious Basterds. And depending on your level of interest in the Pulp Fiction auteur and his well-chronicled movie-geek obsessions, you may also already know that the Brad Pitt WWII epic is loosely based on a fairly obscure (and better spelled) Italian-produced action flick from 1978 called Inglorious Bastards. I’ve seen Tarantino’s Basterds already and I think it’s absolutely fantastic -- the best thing he’s done...

Pssst, want to see "The Inglorious Bastards" this weekend? It's receiving its New York theatrical premiere Friday and Saturday at midnight at the IFC Center.
Careful spellers will notice that this is not the upcoming Quentin Tarantino epic "Inglourious Basterds," which is not opening until Aug. 21, but rather the original 1978 war movie upon which it is based. And while it seems just wrong that it is premiering at a rarefied art-house cinema rather than a 42nd Street grind house, well, times have changed.

While the world awaits the August release of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, movie fans can experience the original film that inspired the most anticipated new action drama of the year. Severin Films today announced the 7/28 release of Enzo Castellari's Inglorious Bastards on Blu-ray, fully restored and loaded with Bonus Features that include 'A Conversation With Quentin Tarantino & Enzo Castellari's, a rousing career-spanning discussion that ranged from the explosive challenges of the original Bastards production to Tarantino's plans for his own version. Castellari's 1978 international hit remains perhaps the biggest war movie in EuroCult history. Action movie icons Bo (Walking Tall, Kill Bill) Svenson and Fred 'The Hammer' Williamson star as the leaders of a gang of condemned criminals who escape from an Allied prison convoy with a plan to blast their way to the Swiss border, only to find themselves 'volunteering' for a suicide mission deep inside Nazi occupied France.
