David Corenswet's Dcu Superman stars in a sweet homage to the Man of Steel's earliest cartoons and James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. Gunn's Superman takes inspiration from storylines such as Kingdom Come and All-Star Superman, as well as the Man of Steel's earliest comic book appearances. The Dcu's version of Superman seems to be aiming for a timeless portrayal of the character, with a somewhat retrofuturistic Metropolis informing his superhero career.
Illustrator and DC fan Dylan Odom shares a fan-made Superman animation on Instagram, starring David Corenswet's Superman as a 1940s cartoon version of the DC hero inspired by the famous 1940s Fleischer Superman animated shorts. Smallville remains one of the most beloved comic book TV shows ever made and, for many DC fans, Tom Welling is their Man of Steel and Michael Rosenbaum is the Lex Luthor. There were also several strong female leads, a surprise given when the show was produced.
Smallville had a lengthy run, kicking off in 2001 before wrapping up in 2011 following a memorable 10 seasons (which somehow didn't see Clark Kent take flight and suit up until the final episode). Still, fans were left eager for more and eventually got a comic book sequel detailing the hero's early adventures as Superman.
There never were any spin-offs - it's easy to imagine things being different had the show been produced today - but we did come close to seeing an episode revolving around a "female Justice League."

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Creature Commandos.
As the first entry into the Dcu, Creature Commandos might have been a very odd choice. However, a show starring some of DC’s deepest cuts has managed to be the light of hope that the fandom needed after the disaster of the Dceu. However, the show’s hard R rating, along with all that it has depicted, bodes well for what it has in store for one other character who was recently confirmed for the Dcu.

Fans are sort of miffed by how Victor Frankenstein treated Eric in the show, but the only thing that his scenes with The Bride have done is allow fans to see how far the Dcu is going to go for its more R-rated characters. While the MCU is only now entering the TV-ma and R-rated space,...

The DC Universe has always been full of surprises, but nothing could have prepared me for the way it reintroduced Green Lanterns to live-action movies. For over a decade, the Green Lantern Corps has been conspicuously absent from the big screen following 2011’s Green Lantern. That hiatus was finally broken in the trailer for Superman, where Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner made a brief but memorable debut. It’s a scene that no one saw coming, making it a pivotal moment for fans of the Green Lantern mythology.
Back in 2011, Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds was intended to kickstart a major franchise within the Dcu. Unfortunately, the film’s uneven tone and subpar CGI left it falling short of both critical and commercial expectations. As the Dceu timeline grew with films like Man of Steel and Wonder Woman, the Green Lanterns were notably absent, relegated to occasional mentions or small Easter eggs.

This year, the Man of Steel will be back on the big screen with the release of James Gunn's Superman in July. Meanwhile, a separate standalone film featuring an alternate version of the character is still reportedly in the works, even if progress is not moving along very quickly.
Back in early 2021, it was reported that J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella were producing a standalone Superman reboot unconnected to the Dceu. Black Panther and Captain America comic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates was also brought on board to write the screenplay for the film, reported to follow a Black incarnation of the Superman character. In the years since, the Dceu folded with the launch of the Dcu, and that comes with the introduction of an all-new Superman. Brandon Routh faced a daunting challenge when he was cast as Superman in Superman Returns in 2006. Taking up the mantle after Christopher Reeve—beloved by fans as the quintessential Superman—was no small feat. Reeve’s iconic portrayal ended tragically after a spinal injury and his passing in 2004, leaving the superhero’s legacy in limbo.
Stepping into such an enormous shadow, Routh not only had to deliver a compelling performance but also physically transform to meet the role’s demands. At 6’4”, Reeve naturally exuded a powerful presence, while Routh, though athletic, was relatively new to intense weightlifting. Determined to rise to the occasion, he committed to a rigorous training regimen, working with a personal trainer four days a week for six months before filming began.

Brandon Routh had an enormous task ahead of him when he was cast to play Superman in 2006s Superman Returns, but he put a huge effort into training for the role. Routh was the first actor to take on the role of Superman, long before the Dcu, after Christopher Reeve's quadrilogy which concluded in 1987. Of course, considering Reeve was lauded as the perfect Superman, and his career as the iconic comic book hero was cut short due to a severe spinal injury, the role went unoccupied for a considerable period of time.
Reeve passed away in 2004, and with the world now without it's Superman, the search for a new man to don the cape began. Routh was eventually cast against a competitive lineup of hopeful actors, but the more impressive part of Routh's work on the role came before he appeared on the big screen, or even got in front of the cameras.

James Gunn's Superman has been the talk of the town ever since it debuted the jam-packed first trailer earlier this month. From David Corenswet's portrayal of the Man of Steel and the comic-accurate and vibrant direction, the newly rebooted DC Universe is already off to a strong start for audiences underwhelmed by previous Dceu movies. However, that doesn't mean certain elements won't be borrowed from the now-defunct cinematic universe. For instance, Superman will feature one of DC's most classic villains from the source material, previously played by Pedro Pascal in the much-maligned Wonder Woman 1984.
During an interview with Kristian Harloff, Sean Gunn, who currently stars in Creature Commandos as Weasel, discussed his upcoming live-action Dcu role in Superman as Maxwell Lord. Although it's unclear how large of a part he will have, Lord is well-known for being a formidable foe of not only Wonder Woman but the Justice League as a whole.

When it comes to transforming into an iconic superhero, for example, Superman, most of us would expect a grueling regime filled with rigorous workouts. Did we forget to mention those strict diets? Of course, that’s also a requirement, after all, donning the role of the Man of Steel is not a small feat.
But for David Corenswet, who is set to play Clark Kent in an upcoming project, the journey to becoming Superman was anything but conventional. James Gunn’s Superman is scheduled for release in 2025, and just lately, DC fans have gotten the first glimpse of the character’s iconic costume.

Actor David Corenswet packed on some muscle mass to transform himself into the Man of Steel for James Gunn's Superman. Bulking up wasn't easy, as detailed by Corenswet's personal trainer, Paolo Mascitti.
While speaking with GQ, Mascitti discussed the work that was involved in bulking up Corenswet for Superman. The trainer said that Corenswet put on about 40 pounds of muscle. Mascitti explained how he's only having three or four sessions a week with Corenswet but that the actor is working out for two hours each day on his own. He also shared Corenswet's workout routine along with how many calories he's been consuming each day for his Superman diet.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a second season of one of the best DC animated shows ever made, My Adventures with Superman! Adult Swim's not-so-adult reimagining of the Man of Steel was widely praised by critics and fans alike when it premiered in 2023, finally bringing Clark Kent (Jack Quaid) to his wholesome, friendly roots. The show truly could not have come at a better time. We've been in the midst of an age of evil Superman archetypes through shows like The Boys and Invincible (both of which are excellent shows; they just aren't the most lighthearted). Plus, the Superman mythos is set to be dramatically reshaped with James Gunn and David Corensweet's highly anticipated feature film that will start an all-new cinematic universe.

Actor David Corenswet landed one of the biggest roles of the Dcu as the star of the upcoming movie Superman. The major casting follows a previous attempt to work with writer-director James Gunn for a previous project set in the MCU that didn't work out.
On the social media platform Threads, James Gunn was asked by a fan about the rumor that David Corenswet auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a part that ultimately went to Will Poulter. Gunn said he verified this rumor himself by asking Corenswet about it, though he also admitted that he had no memory of the actor's audition. The director also shared what will be different with Superman's flying compared to what was seen by Adam Warlock in the MCU.

Zack Snyder built this gritty realistic superhero world for his version of Dceu. Starting with Man of Steel in 2013, the Watchmen director helmed three successful movies while planning several other dropped projects. Henry Cavill may not be reprising his role as the Man of Steel anytime soon, but fans don’t need to burst into tears for him. The Hollywood Reporter discovered that the actor was paid a whopping $250,000 ‘each’ for his brief appearances in Black Adam and The Flash.
Yes, that’s what it is—a quarter of a million dollars for just a few minutes of screen time. Not bad for a day’s work, right? While some may feel sorry for Cavill for not getting the chance to star in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman release, it’s abundantly clear that the actor isn’t hurting for cash. Also, compared to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, the Immortals actor received a higher salary for his brief cameos in other DC flicks.
Henry Cavill’s Kal-El
Cavill was a hot commodity at Warner Bros. Pictures before Gunn and Safran were named co-CEOs of DC Studios.

Batman v Superman in 2004 aimed to restart the Batman and Superman franchises with a dark storyline, but was ultimately canceled. Several actors were up for the lead roles, including Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, and Josh Hartnett, but budget concerns stopped the film in its tracks. The canceled Batman v Superman could have reshaped the superhero genre, leading to a different film landscape today.
When Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters in March 2016, it was a cinematic event years in the making. Henry Cavill nodded to his tumultuous history with post-credits scenes during a recent screening of his new Guy Ritchie-directed movie “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” As reported by Insider, Cavill made some introductory remarks before the film and references his other Ritchie films, including his leading turn in the 2015 spy film “The Man from U.N.C.L.E” and his appearance “in a post-credits scene” for the director’s 2017 box office disappointment “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.”
“Turns out, I don’t have much luck with post-credit scenes,” Cavill then wisecracked to much audience laughter. “So, I may give up on those.”
Cavill is likely referring to how “King Arthur” did not get a sequel because it flopped at the box, but also a debacle ensued years later when he showed up as Superman in the post-credits scene of the 2022 comic book tentpole “Black Adam,” headlined by Dwayne Johnson. The moment...

Smallville redefined Superman by focusing on Clark Kent's journey without flights or tights until the series finale. Clark Kent's heat vision debuted in an embarrassing scenario with a biology teacher, showcasing the series' unique take on his powers. Smallville explored Clark's progression in strength, speed, and invulnerability, delaying his ability to fly until becoming Superman.
The TV series Smallville was the main representation of Superman outside the comics for almost an entire generation, even if the character was never seen in costume. Focusing on the younger years of Clark Kent, the series was a premiere show for both The WB and its later incarnation, The CW. Nevertheless, it made several changes from the comic books, including how the Last Son of Krypton's powers worked.

Real Steel director Shawn Levy is well aware that fans are craving a sequel to the 2011 sci-fi sports movie starring Hugh Jackman. While a sequel is still waiting to be greenlit, Levy shared that the franchise's forthcoming series on Disney+ has found its writing team.
In an interview with Collider at CinemaCon 2024, Levy was asked if the Real Steel Disney+ series, which was announced in January 2022, had a writing team. "Gosh, do I need to lie? Yes is the answer," the director said with a laugh. Levy previously offered an update on the small-screen continuation of Real Steel in December 2022, where he shared that he was "fiercely protective" of the franchise. "I'd rather make no show than the wrong show," he said at the time. "And I finally heard a take that takes the lore of the movie and does some really exciting things with it. I'm finally getting really excited about where we're headed.

Having run for 10 years in the early 2000s, first on The WB and then later on the newly-formed The CW, Smallville has had a lasting impact on both television and the live-action superhero genre. In many ways, Tom Welling's Clark Kent paved the way for other comic book heroes to find new life on the small screen, and as a result, we experienced a boom in comic book-inspired television throughout the 2010s. This boom has lasted through to the present day, where rumors of an animated Smallville revival persist. But, of all the characters who show up on the hit series, who is actually related to our future Man of Steel? Well, if you've gotten confused once or twice trying to keep all of Clark's extended family members straight, we're here to help you through it.

Coming off the success of The Dark Knight trilogy, WB wanted to take a similar route for Superman, leading them to bring Zack Snyder on board for 2013’s Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill. But considering, unlike Batman, Superman is a bright and optimistic character, making him dark and brooding didn’t land well among fans, and with Bvs, these issues only aggravated.
While the Dceu might’ve gotten more wrongs than rights regarding the beloved heroes, it did excel in the costume department, especially with Superman, which inspired Black Panther’s iconic suit.

Real Steel 2 is not out of the question, as Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman continue to discuss the possibility. The original film has gained a cult following, increasing the chances of a sequel being made by Disney. Recent success on Netflix, support from Anthony Mackie and Levy and Jackman's recent teaming with Disney for Deadpool & Wolverine may help push the sequel closer to reality.
Real Steel 2 is still very much a possibility for Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. The original 2011 sci-fi sports movie was loosely based on the Richard Matheson short story "Steel" and revolved around a former boxer who looks to connect with his estranged son by building and training a robot boxer together. Also starring future Marvel Cinematic Universe vets Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly, the movie garnered mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and was a modest box office success, grossing just shy of $300 million against its $110 million production budget.

Video game adaptations come in two flavors: crap and brilliance. For a long time, games were considered cash grabs that did not take advantage of the brilliant concepts and stories they told in a different medium. In recent years, that perspective has changed as producers have found creative homes for properties to tell everything from big-screen epics to animated fare and long-form series storytelling. The latest addition to the growing genre is Fallout. Adapted from the three-decade-old franchise, Fallout exists within the world of video games but expands into a fully original story with all new characters. With the full season streaming on Prime Video, audiences are finding this new series is the real deal.

Actor Nicholas Hoult is reportedly being eyed for a major role in James Gunn's upcoming DC Studios film, Superman: Legacy.
The Hollywood Reporter recently claimed Hoult is one of several actors being looked at to play the iconic supervillain, Lex Luthor. However, it should be noted that Deadline reporter Justin Kroll later suggested that Hoult is being eyed for the role of Clark Kent. It should be noted that neither one of these claims have been officially confirmed.

His appearance in the franchise began in X-Men: First Class and came to an end in X-Men: Dark Phoenix in 2019. According to reports, there were talks of a Beast-focused X-Men spinoff film. While a script was drafted, it ultimately went unproduced.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe really gives us a novelty that took forever for comic book movies to fully embrace. The idea of superhero properties crossing over and building to a much wider world is something that’s in the DNA of the source material. Outside of the Lou Ferrigno Hulk rubbing elbows with half-realized versions of Thor and Daredevil, it’s something that we never truly got to see until Nick Fury stopped by Tony Stark’s house after the Iron Man credits. Before that, the closest thing we had was J. Jonah Jameson referencing the existence of Doctor Strange. Even their rivals at DC Comics couldn’t give us more than a Superman reference in Batman and Robin or a Batman and Robin reference in Steel.
But we did have some close calls over the decades. Some closer than others. Movies and sequels that would have brought together various...

DC Studios is building a new shared universe, in which James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will be the first theatrical entry.
So far, only Viola Davis is confirmed to reprise her Dceu role in the new franchise. James Gunn set comic fans abuzz with the recent announcement that at least one member of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast would appear in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. The possibilities are endless -- anyone from Will Poulter as Jimmy Olsen to Zoe Saldaña as Lois Lane -- but the go-to choice among fan speculation at the moment is Chris Pratt as Kal-El. It's the wrong move for several reasons, mostly because Pratt simply isn't right for the part. Another Superman: Legacy role, however, could be perfect for him.

The following contains spoilers for Titans Season 4, Episode 11, "Project Starfire," now streaming on HBO Max.
The way Titans Season 4 depicted Lex Luthor has left a bittersweet taste in some fans' mouths. Many expected Titus Welliver's Lex Luthor to be a sinister tour de force throughout the final season. However, he was killed off pretty early by Mother Mayhem in a most shocking move.
Ironically, Lex's death made the Cult of Trigon even more intimidating, paving the way for Conner Kent aka Superboy to take over his company. However, some passionate fans wanted a Smallville-style Lex around to bask in the chaos, corrupt Conner and remind everyone why he's Superman's most iconic villain. The Flash movie features two Batmen – Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton – which makes sense given Barry Allen’s history with Bruce Wayne in the Dceu. While DC is set to have two different Batman movie series in the upcoming years with The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold, The Flash’s two Batmen hs a simpler explanation. The Flash movie deals with time travel and the multiverse, allowing the movie to incorporate Michael Keaton’s Batman from the Tim Burton films’ continuity despite taking place in the Dceu. Originally published in 1996, the Kingdom Come comics, from Mark Waid and Alex Ross, are set in an alternate future with the members of the Justice League now decades older. Officially, a live-action adaptation of Kingdom Come hasn't been made, though Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) took some inspiration from the older Superman when he reprised the role for an appearance in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. After Gunn and Safran were hired to steer the ship at DC Studios, the former would go on to share artwork...
