Mark Lindsay (former lead singer for Paul Revere and the Raiders) co-wrote the music with W. Michael Lewis. The performing credit is listed as "The Wonderland Philharmonic." "Wonderland" refers to the house that Lindsay lived in at one time. However, music cues from the original "Kozure Ôkami" films are also used.
Many of the lines from this movie are sampled by hip-hop artist and Wu-Tang Clan member the GZA on his album "Liquid Swords".
This film is made up from the first two installments of the "Lone Wolf and Cub series". This is also mentioned in the DVD commentary of Shogun Assassin.
The Lone Wolf And Cub series was shown in the mid-70s in LA's Little Tokyo. It was there that David Weisman and Robert Houston first saw the series and decided, with money loaned from friends, to acquire the rights to Baby Cart: le sabre de la vengeance (1972) and selected parts of Baby Cart: L'enfant massacre (1972). They spent 6 months in studio re-arranging it and added voice recordings from comedienne Sandra Bernhard and staff from a local sushi restaurant to add authentic Japanese grunts and yelps. It was sold for distribution to Roger Corman's New World Pictures and was released onto the Grindhouse circuit in 1980.
