You're alone in it.

A man (Niels Arestrup) finds 4 passport photos in an automaton ;the resemblance between his mother and the lady on the picture is striking ;he visits his grandmother who takes out her old photographs and both are amazed; she died a long time ago (a scene of nightmare shows the little boy in front of the grave) but the man wants to find this lookalike.

It's neither thriller, nor psychological drama: it's "heady" stuff ,probably inspired by the French New Wavelet : characters who have nothing to do but contemplate their navel , (they do not have to make both ends meet) , exuberant guests (the absurd dance of the newcomer and the girlfriend he treats like dirt, cerebral actors (Michael Lonsdale ,who can be excellent when he's given decent material to work with ,inexpressive Bulle ogier whose biggest desire is to have a child with her lover-painter ) who exchange fortune -cookie philosophies , sex scenes involving the hero .Now and then , beautiful pictures ,but it does not make an attractive movie for all that .

Some call it artistic ,I will call it arty : a hotch-potch in which the director wants his audience feels he 's watching an important meaningful work whereas he does not know, has no idea that it's a saddening bore all along the way.
