The original Broadway production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett opened at the Cort Theater on October 5, 1955, ran for seven hundred seventeen performances, won the 1956 Tony Award for the Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 1956.
Scott Jacoby played Peter van Daan in this film. His grandfather Lou Jacobi previously played Peter's father Hans van Daan in both the original Broadway play as well as the feature film adaptation Le journal d'Anne Frank (1959).
