Watching movies in theaters can be an exhilarating experience, but not every film necessitates such an expensive and time-consuming effort. Luckily, we also have streaming services that bring these films to our homes, offering a seamless experience for movie enthusiasts. However, there are numerous platforms that provide a large number of movies on a monthly basis, making it difficult to find something to watch. Fret not; we've prepared a directory of all the movies that will be available on major streaming services in February 2025, including Netflix, Prime Video, Shudder, and more.

Many in Hollywood have been critical of AI-created work, but “Raging Bull” and “Taxi Driver” screenwriter Paul Schrader is not on that list. The screenwriter and director took to Facebook to praise the technology, specifically ChatGPT.
“I’M Stunned,” Schrader wrote last Friday. During his post, he noted he asked ChatGPT for “an idea for Paul Schrader film.” He then repeated the request for Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Harmony Korine, Ingmar Bergman, Roberto Rossellini, Fritz Lang, Martin Scorsese, F.W. Murnau, Frank Capra, John Ford, Steven Spielberg and David Lynch.
“Every idea chatgpt came up with (in a few seconds) was good. And original. And fleshed out,” Schrader wrote. “Why should writers sit around for months searching for a good idea when AI can provide one in seconds?”

While his work often carries a certain subtlety, Paul Schrader himself tends to be more direct. The 78 year-old filmmaker often takes to social media to share his opinion on films, actors, or the news of the day and now that he’s promoting his recently released “Oh, Canada,” he’s found even more ways to amplify his unfiltered thoughts. Speaking in a recent interview with Vulture, Schrader directed his hot takes towards collaborator Richard Gere. Prior to re-teaming on “Oh, Canada,” Gere and Schrader worked together on “American Gigolo” at a time when the actor was at his peak. Schrader had noticed Gere’s star fall over the years and felt him playing an older, ill man would help revitalize his image.
“It was a good challenge. And he welcomed it, because people were getting a hermetic idea of what a Richard Gere role was. The buzz factor had gone down.

Richard Gere, the guest on the latest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, has been one of Hollywood’s top leading men for nearly 50 years. The 75-year-old has had “the sort of hugely successful, long, eclectic career that nearly every actor would kill for,” as another outlet recently put it. He made his name with memorable performances in high-profile films like 1978’s Days of Heaven, 1980’s American Gigolo, 1982’s An Officer and a Gentleman, 1990’s Pretty Woman and 2002’s Chicago. In recent years, he’s done equally strong work in indies, the latest being 2024’s Oh, Canada, a drama about a dying documentarian who wants to get some things off his chest.
Over the course of this episode, Gere reflected on how two of his early passions, gymnastics and music, helped to make him a better actor; what his experiences were working with master filmmakers like Terrence Malick...

Richard Gere has been a bona fide movie star for nearly half a century. But he didn’t necessarily set out to be.
“I was a little snobbish about movies,” says the youthful 75-year-old. “Certainly, I had a fascination and loved movies. But I also loved being in the theater.”
Gere points to his starring role in Sam Shepard’s 1975 play Killer’s Head as a key point in his transition to the big screen.
“It was a 30-minute monologue of this cowboy fuck-up who was in the electric chair, and it was his last thoughts before he was electrocuted,” he says, part of a conversation he had with THR for a new episode of the Awards Chatter podcast. “That was a decisive moment for me, of connecting with a more or less contemporary character. That in many ways was very filmic, albeit from a Sam Shepard point of view.

For his latest film, “Oh, Canada,” writer/director Paul Schrader was faced with a conundrum. He knew he wanted to cast his “American Gigolo” collaborator Richard Gere as the older version of fictional Canadian documentarian Leonard Fife, but a great deal of the film would also cover Fife as a younger man as he escapes the Vietnam draft in America and crosses over the northern border.
Trying to find a younger Gere proved a predicament, especially since, in his youth, the “Days of Heaven” actor was recognized as quite the heartthrob. In a recent interview with Alison Stewart on her “All of It” podcast, Schrader discussed the Nsfw reaction to him finding Jacob Elordi for the part from one of his closet peers.
“I’m good friends with Bret Easton Ellis,” said Schrader. “And I was having dinner with Bret. I said, ‘I’m trying to cast a young Richard Gere.

Richard Gere was one of the most famous heartthrobs of the late 20th century, as his outstanding performances in modern classics like American Gigolo, An Officer and a Gentleman, and Pretty Woman proved him to be a versatile leading man capable of taking on many different types of roles. Gere has never been shy about his political opinions, and has somewhat retreated from the public eye following a controversy that ended up getting him banned from the Academy Awards. Despite this setback, Gere still continues to do excellent work in films that gain far less attention than they deserve, including one of the darkest films of his career in the financial thriller Arbitrage.

Paul Schrader Talks ‘Oh, Canada,’ Reuniting With Richard Gere, Tarantino’s ‘The Movie Critic’ & More
A meditation on mortality, memory, past sins and confessions, director Paul Schrader’s latest movie is the drama “Oh, Canada.” Debuting at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year (read our review), “Oh, Canada” is an adaptation of the novel “Foregone” by the late author Russell Banks—a writer that Schrader already adapted for 1997’s “Affliction.” The film stars Richard Gere, the star of Schrader’s 1980s hit, “American Gigolo,” and their first collaboration since some 30 years ago.

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Kino Lorber opens “Oh Canada” in theaters on Friday, December 6.
“How can so much suffering have no meaning?”
That’s a question posed by decorated documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife in Paul Schrader’s meandering ode to death, dying, aging, and regret, “Oh, Canada.” It’s inevitably one also felt by audiences who will be left bewildered by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker’s most experimental and alienating work in some time, which loses itself in the process.
With “Oh, Canada,” Schrader splices timelines, color palettes, and aspect ratios to tell Fife’s story as a now-revered nonfiction movie-maker who fled the United States in the late 1960s for Canada to avoid the Vietnam War draft. Schrader is a gifted filmmaker who has given us so much more than “First Reformed” and “The Card Counter,” the only movies audiences of...

In the late ’90s, producer James G. Robinson and screenwriter William Wisher Jr. started developing a prequel to the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist – and no one could have predicted just how messy this project would get. Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI director Tom McLoughlin was hired to take the helm, but then dropped out due to issues with the script. John Frankenheimer (The Manchurian Candidate) took the helm, with author Caleb Carr handling rewrites… then Frankenheimer left because his health was declining (he passed away soon after) and was replaced by Paul Schrader. Schrader was known for writing films like Taxi Driver, Rolling Thunder, Raging Bull, and The Last Temptation of Christ, and he had also directed several films: Blue Collar, Hardcore, American Gigolo, Cat People, and others. During a recent interview with MovieWeb, Schrader admitted that he shouldn’t have taken on the job of directing Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist.

“Oh, Canada” is a new dramatic feature from writer/director Paul Schrader (“American Gigolo”), adapting a novel by Russell Banks, starring Richard Gere, Jacob Elordi, Uma Thurman, Victoria Hill, Michael Imperioli, Penelope Mitchell and Kristine Froseth, opening December 5, 2024 in theaters:
“…filmmaker ‘Leonard Fife’ (Gere), still fiery despite his battle with illness, wants to tell his life story, unfiltered, before it's too late. As the director of acclaimed documentary exposés, he has much to be proud of, but his US wartime draft-dodging and his past relationships harbor thorny truths.
“Leonard sits for an extended interview with his former student ‘Malcolm’ (Imperioli), relating candid stories about his younger self (Elordi) during the 1960’s and beyond.
“At Leonard's insistence, his wife and indispensable artistic partner, ‘Emma’ (Thurman), bears witness to it all. His successes are held up against his failings and, as the man is cleansed of the myth, Leonard must confront what is left.

Oh, Canada (2024) may noy be the last film that Paul Schrader ends up making, as the notoriously active writer/director has already hinted at what his next project might be. That being said, “Oh, Canada” certainly feels like an acclaimed artist looking back on the achievements of their career, as it is by its very nature a reflective story about two fixed points in a man’s life. Schrader has long been interested in exploring the lurking feelings of anxiety and self-destruction that exist within archetypes of masculinity, such as a priest (“First Reformed”), a drug dealer (“Light Sleeper”), a gambler (“The Card Counter”), a male escort (“American Gigolo”), or a family man (“Hardcore”). “Oh, Canada” is perhaps the best evidence that these stories were all derived from Schrader’s own self-analysis, as it recontextualizes the accoladed Russell Banks novel “Foregone” as a commentary on the ramifications of the New Hollywood movement.

Kino Lorber has lifted the curtain on Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada,” debuting the first trailer for the acclaimed filmmaker’s latest.
The film first premiered at Cannes in May, competing for the Palme d’Or. It has since toured the festival season, with selections at both Toronto and New York. The cast includes Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Michael Imperioli, Jacob Elordi, Victoria Hill and Kristine Froseth. The official synopsis for the film reads: “Leonard Fife, one of 60,000 draft evaders and deserters who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam, shares all his secrets to de-mythologize his mythologized life.”
“Fife is dying and realizing that his whole life has been built on lies and he is trying to confront himself before he dies,” Schrader teased in an profile with Variety earlier this year.
Gere plays the older Fife, a respected documentary filmmaker giving a final testimony in an interview with his old students.

If anyone had to be labeled Hollywood’s golden boy in the late 70s, it was John Travolta. From early success on Welcome Back, Kotter to his star turns in Grease, Travolta’s charm, cool-collected persona, and chops in singing and dancing made him sparkle. As much as those roles played to his specific skill sets and advantages, they left him a bit typecast as the smooth-talking, dancing heartthrob – a niche he, or for that matter anyone, couldn’t keep playing forever.
It would be, perhaps, some soul-searching that would lead to a different alley in 1981. Blow Out, a gritty thriller by Brian De Palma had Travolta taking risks. Gone were the musical numbers and dance moves, replaced by an intense role as a sound engineer caught up in a murder. Travolta’s performance was strong – so strong that years later, Quentin Tarantino reached out to him with an offer...

Richard Gere has never won an Oscar, and if history holds true, he might not be winning one anytime soon. In fact, the actor, who first rose to fame for his turn in films like "American Gigolo" and "An Officer and a Gentleman," didn't show his face at the Academy Awards ceremony for two decades after he was reportedly blacklisted from the awards following a political speech he gave in 1993.
In case you didn't see the moment in question live, it's worth noting that Gere was a sex symbol and a huge deal in Hollywood in the early '90s, and letting him present the Oscar for Best Art Direction was no doubt good for the show's then still-high ratings. When he stepped on stage that night, America was still gripped with leftover "Pretty Woman" fever, and Gere would go on to make some of his best films (including "Primal Fear...

The action genre was responsible for some of the best movies of the 1980s, which were characterized by tough protagonists and action-packed storytelling. These films are lauded for their gritty tone, uncompromising characters, and fiery energy that is absent in today's productions. Watching them now allows for an appreciation of their unique combination of memorable characters and explosive scenes. Beyond the violence, these movies provide a snapshot of the era's politics, culture, and cinematic styles, making them worth revisiting. Whether looking into street life or the dystopian settings, these films capture a sense of danger and rebellion that resonates today.
Rewatching these 1980s cult classic action films allows viewers to pick up on deeper thematic elements and appreciate the craft behind their practical effects and fight choreographyelements often overshadowed by CGI in modern cinema. Many of these films feature complex characters grappling with moral issues, which become more pronounced in subsequent viewings.

The documentary explores Reeve's life, both the good and the bad, before and after his horseriding accident, but also dives into certain aspects of his acting career that many may not know. Most audiences are quick to recognize him for his legendarily defining portrayal as DC's Superman, but others may not be as aware of some of his other film work and just how great of an actor he was. It may be easy for some to overlook the other roles he took on because as it turns out,...

Paul Schrader, at the age of 78, is getting a bit philosophical, a trifle introspective and, if the truth be told, extremely pessimistic about the future.
The legendary former film critic turned screenwriter-director — his long list of credits includes, as screenwriter, Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver (1976) and Raging Bull (1980) and, as writer-director, American Gigolo (1980), First Reformed (2017) and this year’s Oh, Canada — will arrive in Tuscany this week, as a special guest of the Lucca Film Festival. On Sept. 25, he will teach a master class to university students, and the day after, on Sept. 26, he will receive a lifetime achievement award. There will also be a retrospective of his greatest films.
THR Roma caught up with Schrader in New York, just before he hopped his flight for Italy. Before dishing the dirt, and talking about the trials and tribulations of John Travolta, Schrader went all metaphysical.
Paul, you are coming to Lucca.

Call the super. This unit needs repairs. Apartment 7A, like many prequels, sequels, companion pieces, and reboots, exists solely to revisit a far superior creation. That would be Rosemarys Baby, the bone-chilling 1968 masterpiece directed by Roman Polanski (Chinatown) and starring Mia Farrow (The Great Gatsby). At the time, the story about a young woman braving a sinister plot designed to make her birth the Antichrist was a one-of-kind, gut-punch movie experience. Not since Psycho, which hit theaters in 1960, had audiences experienced such suspenseful terror, nor such a story laced with evil. Unless they read Ira Levins bestseller.

You used to hear the refrain from horror film fanatics with a lot more frequency – the original was so much scarier.
And while this is still true to some degree (the films of John Carpenter have been remade with an oddly uniform lousiness), there are still plenty of horror films that have been remade well. Sometimes the remakes are just as good as the original. In rare cases, it even surpasses the original.
Here is our definitive list of the very best horror remakes ever.
(United Artists) “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1978)
Don Siegel’s 1956 classic “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” is based on Jack Finney’s story “The Body Snatchers,” which was serialized in Collier’s in 1954 and published as a novel shortly after, has been remade several times over the years. But the very best iteration is still the 1978 version, the first since Siegel’s, from director Philip Kaufman and writer W.D. Richter.

Paul Schrader may think that Glen Powell is the next Paul Newman, but the “Oh, Canada” filmmaker is making it clear that Jacob Elordi could follow in Richard Gere’s filmic footsteps.
Schrader cast Elordi as the younger version of Gere’s lead character in “Oh, Canada,” which premiered in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and went on to screen at TIFF.
However, Schrader is now suggesting that Elordi might have even beat out Gere for “American Gigolo” if they had been contemporaries.
“I saw his performance on Zoom and, if this was 40 years ago, this is the guy I would have cast for ‘American Gigolo,'” Schrader told The Hollywood Reporter of Elordi’s audition for “Oh, Canada.”
“American Gigolo” was led by Gere and released in 1980. The film later received a short-lived TV adaptation with Jon Bernthal starring.

Jacob Elordi was hired "for a dime and nickel" for his role in 'Oh Canada'.The 27-year-old actor plays the young Leonard Fife in Paul Schrader's adaptation of Russell Banks' 2021 novel 'Foregone', and was hired for the role before his breakout part as Elvis Presley in 'Priscilla', a time when the director didn't need a big "name" because he already had Richard Gere on board to play the older version of the character but he felt they had enough of a resemblance to one another.Paul explained to The Hollywood Reporter: "We got him (Elordi) for a dime and nickel for that reason. I didn’t need a name. I had Richard and that was enough. Fresh off his Emmy win, Jon Bernthal is coming out with his next gig. The Bear star and Pablo Schreiber have nabbed key roles in Netflix’s His & Hers adaptation that has Tessa Thompson executive producing and starring in the lead role. The series is described as a seductive and twisty psychological thriller.
The six-episode limited series stars Thompson as newscaster Anna Andrews, a woman who, per the show’s logline, lives in haunting reclusivity in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, fading away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega, Georgia — the sleepy town where she grew up — Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers.

Known for steaming up the screen in titles like American Gigolo and The Mothman Prophecies, Richard Gere sits in the passenger seat and lets Diane Lanes sex appeal shine in 2002s, Unfaithful. While weve had plenty of movies where men cross the line and cheat on their partners, getting every party involved in what always becomes a dangerous situation, the Adrian Lyne-helmed production flipped the script and let an older woman fall for a younger man. Featuring Olivier Martinez (S.W.A.T.) as Lanes sexy side piece, the film is a fun bit of early aughts cinema that will arrive on Paramount+ this month.

When an actor is born to play a certain role, as was certainly the case with Christopher Reeve and the role of Superman, its difficult for such an actor to transcend this role within the publics consciousness. For Reeve, this was heightened by the fact that he was a virtual unknown prior to his casting in the first Superman film. Because of the unknown status that he brought to Superman, which was the most expensive film ever made at the time of its 1978 release, the producers of the film, along with Warner Bros., felt the need to hedge their financial risk by surrounding Reeve with Hollywood superstars Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando.

Richard Gere celebrated his 75th birthday with hyped-up fans at a masterclass hosted by Cartier at the Venice Film Festival and revealed some behind-the-scenes on the filming of his 1990 hit movie “Pretty Woman” which catapulted Julia Roberts into star status.
Reacting to a clip of his steamy piano scene with Roberts, Gere laughed and blushed about his palpable chemistry with the actor.
“No chemistry,” he laughed. “I mean, this actor and this actress, obviously, had no chemistry between them… I haven’t seen that in a long time, too. It was a sexy, sexy scene.”
Gere then went on to share that the scene had been improvised. “This was never in the script. … We didn’t know how we would use it later. It ended up being integral to the film,” said Gere, who also joked that he “was playing a character that was almost criminally underwritten. It was basically...

When “Boulevard Nights” opened in early 1979, it was one of several major studio films — along with “The Warriors,” The Wanderers,” and “Over the Edge” — to take on gang violence as its primary subject. After the movies inspired a handful of violent incidents at theaters, Paramount doubled down on the marketing of Walter Hill‘s “The Warriors” and turned it into a box office hit; unfortunately for “Boulevard Nights” director Michael Pressman, Warner Bros. went in the opposite direction and pulled their film from the venues where violence had broken out, essentially abandoning the movie.

Nineties New Queer Cinema icon Gregg Araki has not directed a feature since leaving Eva Green’s body frozen in the suburban snow globe of “White Bird in a Blizzard” in 2014. Since then, the DIY taboo buster has gone the way so many indie directors have to: by applying their personality to TV shows. In Araki’s case, that includes directing episodes of “Dahmer” and “American Gigolo.”

Deadline reports that the “Top Gun: Maverick” star is set to star in a modern retelling of “An Officer and a Gentleman,” the 1982 romantic drama starring Richard Gere.
“An Officer and a Gentleman” was a massive hit that turned Gere and Debra Winger into two of the biggest stars of the era. It follows Zack Mayo, a troubled young naval pilot cadet, and his relationships with his demanding drill instructor Sgt. Emil Foley (Louis Gossett Jr.) and Paul Pokrifki, a woman who lives in the town near the base. Gossett won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance, making Oscars history as the first Black winner in the category. The film also won Best Original Song for “Up Where We Belong.” It was directed by Taylor Hackford and written by Douglas Day Stewart,...

Shailene Woodley is setting out to capture the power of women.
The “Big Little Lies” alum returns to novel-adaptation ensemble TV with “Three Women,” based on Lisa Taddeo’s bestselling book of the same name. Woodley plays Gia, a writer who is grieving the death of her family and sets out to interview three “ordinary” women to tell her their stories of love, life, and loss.
Those trio of women include Betty Gilpin, who plays a stuffy housewife who begins an affair, DeWanda Wise as a woman in an open marriage that quickly becomes a quadruple (one more than a thruple), and Gabrielle Creevy who stars as a student that gets entangled with her married English teacher.
The synopsis reads: Three women are on a crash course to radically overturn their lives. Lina (Gilpin), a homemaker in suburban Indiana, is a decade into a passionless marriage when she embarks on...
