Colombian police say a 40-year-old man was arrested after being caught trying to board a flight from Cartagena, Colombia, to Amsterdam, Netherlands, while wearing a wig hiding cocaine worth more than $10,470. He was 88.

His death was reported to The New York Times by a Wambaugh family friend.

In 1971, eleven years after joining the LAPD, Wambaugh saw his first novel, The New Centurions, published by Little, Brown and Co. The story of rookie LAPD cops in the early 1960s became his first bestseller and, the following year, the first movie based on his work. The film adaptation starred George C. Scott and Stacy Keach.

Wambaugh, who also co-created the acclaimed 1970s anthology series Police Story for NBC, died at his home in Rancho Mirage of esophageal cancer, longtime family friend Janene Gant told The New York Times.

Wambaugh, who joined the LAPD as a patrolman in 1960, made a splash with his debut novel, The New Centurions, a sweeping tale that followed three young LAPD officers during a five-year period that led to the 1965 Watts riots. Published by Little, Brown and Co. in 1971, it was a hit, remaining on The New York Times Best Seller List for 32 weeks.

Paramount’s legal division is stacking billable hours, these days. The company faces multiple legal challenges to its merger deal with Skydance Media, and another lawsuit has arisen to try and halt the transaction in its tracks. The Wrap reports that Paramount is being sued by five pension funds representing New York City employees, who want to pause the Skydance merger until Paramount has sufficiently reviewed a $13.5 billion offer from Project Rise Partners (Prp) which arose in late January.

Key Details: The lawsuit says that Paramount failed in its duty to shareholders by not sufficiently considering the offer from Project Rise Partners. Prp’s bid pays Class B shareholders more than Skydance’s offer would but does not reward Paramount controlling shareholder Shari Redstone as richly.

Producer Paul Maslansky, who came up with the premise for the first Police Academy movie and got help from three world-class directors to push the troubled cult classic Return to Oz past the finish line, has died. He was 91.

Maslansky died Monday of natural causes at a hospital in Los Robles, California, his partner of 16 years, Sally Emr, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The New Yorker made his producing debut in Italy on The Castle of the Living Dead (1964), starring Christopher Lee, and he filmed George Cukor’s penultimate feature, the Elizabeth Taylor-starring The Blue Bird (1976), and Fred Schepisi’s The Russia House (1990), starring Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer, in the Soviet Union.

Paul Maslansky, the producer behind the Police Academy franchise, died December 2. He was 91.

The Emmy nominee’s death was announced by Police Academy (1984) writer Pat Proft in a heartfelt statement on Friday, recounting their work together on Proft’s first film, which launched six sequels and two series, one animated and one live-action.

“Thankful for meeting Paul Maslansky,” wrote Proft on Facebook. “He hired me and Neal Israel to research and write Police Academy. First film I ever wrote. Paul has passed away. Sally and his son.. sorry for your loss. He left behind a trail of comedies. Good life.”

Born Nov. 23, 1933, in New York City, Maslansky produced such films as The Castle of the Living Dead (1964), Race with the Devil (1975), Damnation Alley (1977), Return to Oz (1985), The Russia House (1990), Cop & 1/2 (1993) and Fluke (1995).

After his 1978 Martin Luther King Jr. limited series King was nominated for an Emmy, Maslansky found success with 1984’s Police Academy.

Wayne Northrop, the actor known for roles on Days of Our Lives and Dynasty, has died. He was 77.

Northrop died Friday at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, publicist Cynthia Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s six years ago.

“He took his last breath in the arms of his family,” Northrop’s wife and fellow soap star, Lynn Herring Northrop, said in a statement. “We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, the Motion Picture and Television Home, for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”

Rapper Travis Scott was arrested early today in Miami for disorderly intoxication and trespassing, according to Miami Beach Police public information.

The 33-year-old rapper was arrested at 4:35 a.m. after engaging in some sort of dispute with boat crew on a chartered yacht. Scott was arrested under his real name, Jacques Bermon Webster.

Scott was released on bond after paying $500 on the disorderly intoxication charge and $150 on the trespassing charge.

According to an arrest reprot, the Miami Beach Police Department responded to reports of people fighting on a yacht. Police responded to the disturbance and saw Scott yelling at people on the vessel.
