The episode of The Black Sheep covering DeepStar Six was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Sean S. Cunningham will always be primarily remembered for directing the original Friday the 13th, but he has taken the helm of some other movies that are worth checking out, like 1985’s The New Kids and the subject of the latest entry in our Black Sheep video series, DeepStar Six (get it Here).
Released in 1989 and often compared to its fellow ’89 release Leviathan (which has also gotten the Black Sheep treatment), DeepStar Six was scripted Geoff Miller and Lewis Abernathy – which is interesting because movies like Leviathan and DeepStar Six exist because James Cameron’s The Abyss was coming out the same year, and Abernathy and Cameron are pals. Abernathy even had an acting role in Titanic.

Director Sean S. Cunningham is widely known for the classic 1980 slasher Friday the 13th, a movie we know and love that spawned a whole series of sequels and eventually a remake. Still, he’s done plenty of other things, and one of those things is the 1985 thriller, The New Kids. With a screenplay by Stephen Gyllenhaal who also wrote the story alongside Brian Taggert, The New Kids finally comes out on Blu-ray in the UK thanks to 101 Films and their excellent Black Label.
The story itself follows two American teenagers – Loren (Shannon Presby) and Abby (Lori Loughlin) – who, when their parents are killed in a car accident, move to Florida to live with their Uncle.

This June, 101 Films will release Sean S. Cunningham’s tense and violent horror-thriller The New Kids (1985), previously released on VHS as Striking Back in 1988 and never making the transition to DVD here in the UK, as part of the companies “Black Label” line.
After their parents die in a car crash, two all-American teens, Loren (Shannon Presby) and Abby (Lori Loughlin) go to live with relatives in a small Florida town. But trouble begins when members of a vicious gang, led by Dutra (James Spader), bet on who’ll be the first to seduce the innocent Abby. When she spurns their obscene advances, the thugs embark on a sadistic campaign of vandalism, arson and assault. The savagery escalates until Loren must defend himself and his sister in a brutal fight to the death in a carnival midway. It’s The New Kids… trying to make it in this town just might kill them!

After a brief hiatus, our From VHS to VOD column returns to guide you through the strange and obscure – the odd, unseen and unreleased (well unreleased on disc formats) films available on streaming and on-demand services.
Since our last installment there has been an explosion of the obscure movies hitting Amazon Prime Video – available for streaming rather than purchase, though the wide variety of films you don’t, and probably won’t see elsewhere makes up for that. Like iTunes there are some truly obscure films hidden away in the depths of Amazon’s vast collection of movies. Some of which have been made available in the UK for the first time since VHS and a Lot that have been added to the service in their original uncut form!

With Friday the 13th being a box office behemoth in 1980, many people seem to consider this to be the high-water mark of Sean S. Cunningham's career. And while he hasn't ever had a film that became part of the lexicon the way that Jason and his ubiquitous hockey mask have, it would be wrong to toss aside a career that is actually quite varied. And with some perspective, who knows if one could say this about all the films that came after Friday the 13th, but The New Kids (released in 1985) is certainly a movie that deserves a much better life than it's had. In fact, it is so well done that The New Kids deserves to rise above it's cult classic status... if it even has that!
Sean S. Cunningham started making films in the 1970s. However, it wasn't until 1980's Friday the 13th that his career really caught fire.

The long-awaited sequel to Goon arrives in UK cinemas. It ain't essential, but it's fun...
“I’m not as tough as I used to be.”
Goon: Last of the Enforcers, the sequel to 2011s Goon, is a film about the world changing. The new owner of the Halifax Highlanders has expectations of the team and he’ll bring new players in to achieve them. The new kids coming into the league are something else; all-rounders, and some of them can really fight. Bruiser Doug Glatt’s home life is pulling him away from the game, and his body can hardly keep up with it anymore. So what exactly is a displaced hockey goon supposed to do?
There’s a weird tragedy bubbling beneath the surface of Goon 2, but it’s never really dealt with. The subject of head injuries and being so drawn to and entertained by the violence that causes them,...

After two years in stealth mode, the curtains have finally parted at Stage 13, Warner Bros.’ home-grown digital production company offering an array of shows and creators decidedly different from its blockbuster franchises such as The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, The Matrix, and The Hangover.
The company gave me an exclusive behind-the-scenes look as it prepared to publicly launch its first slate of programming. It marks a notable experiment by a big media company, coming at a time when content is flooding consumers. The question will be whether its multicultural programming can resonate with the diverse audiences its shows are tryig to reach.
“It was exciting to have a big media company say, ‘Yeah, we’re going to double down in this area,’” said Diana Mogollon, the site’s general manager and senior vice president. “It’s about Warner Bros. walking the walk.”

As New Kids on the Block gears up for their Total Package Tour with Boyz II Men and Paula Abdul this summer, Et's Nischelle Turner got a sneak peek at what to expect during their rehearsals. Since hitting it big in the '80s, there's still one tour prank they can't seem to outgrow.
"We can't have certain things because of our youth," Donnie Wahlberg says of the group's backstage snacks. "If there were cold cuts, it would usually be like, frisbee toss time, and that's bad. So we can't say that we have grown out of that, but we just grew smart enough to know that -- don't bring cold cuts."
"Anything that can stick to a wall," Jordan Knight chimed in, "we don't want it."
"Or someone's face," Wahlberg continues. "Guys getting smacked with a piece of bologna."

Fresh from his 21-day African adventure, Jonathan Knight has dished to Et about his upcoming wedding and the scary moment he knew he had to propose.
The New Kids on the Block singer had been checking out wedding rings for more than four years, but it was watching his longtime love, fitness trainer Harley Rodriguez, dangle over a death-defying waterfall that prompted the star to finally pop the question.
"We were walking around Victoria Falls, and there's this thing called Devil's Pools," says Knight, who was holidaying in Africa with Rodriguez, their mothers and friends. "It's ridiculous -- you walk to the edge of a waterfall and then it drops straight down and it just didn't make any sense to me, so I didn't do it, but Harley did. In the back of my mind I'm like, 'If he's hanging off a waterfall, I could frickin' lose him! It's time to do it.'"

Kevin Bacon spends most of the first eight minutes of The Following‘s Season 3 premiere smiling. This is notable, because it’s the longest stretch we’ve seen the eternally tortured Ryan Hardy happy in the series to date.
And given what happens in rest of the hour, it’s likely the last time we’ll see him this way for quite a while.
What new ways have the depraved minds of the world found to torment Bacon’s beat-down alter ego? What threat lurks now that Joe Carroll is — for the moment, at least — locked away in a federal prison?...

At the end of The Following‘s second season, just as Edgar Allen Poe-obsessed serial killer Joe Carroll was taken back into federal custody, his FBI agent nemesis made one last vow.
“You won’t be seeing me anymore,” Ryan Hardy promised the murderer, whose capture he’d personally supervised (and whose life he’d very nearly taken).
But “anymore” — like nevermore — is a really long time. And though Kevin Bacon‘s Ryan may not actually see James Purefoy‘s Joe as the Fox drama kicks off a third season, Carroll’s influence is as palpable as an ice pick through the eye.

The world is very familiar with Jonathan Knight from his New Kids on the Block fame, but they’re about to get to know his partner of seven years, fitness coach Harley Rodriguez, as the pair travel the world together on this season of The Amazing Race. ETonline recently sat down with the couple to talk about their experience on the hit CBS reality competition show.
ETonline: How did you decide to join the cast?
Jonathan: I've been a fan of the show forever. Actually, I was trying to get on the show for the past four seasons, and it just didn't work out until this year. They called and said we're doing couples this year, and we got to do it so I was pretty excited.
This season some of the cast are couples and some just met. Do you feel like you had an advantage because you've been together for so long?

The Force Awakens! Apparently, the Force has been sleeping through the last "Star Wars" movies!
And predictably, it didn't make everyone happy when it was revealed on the film's Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Some sample snarkiness:
New Star Wars title not bad, just feels a little forced.
I had my money on Star Wars Into Darkness.
And my favorite, Shhhhh. The Force is a very light sleeper.
But not everybody will be happy with the most over-hyped, over-talked contemporary movie! Honestly, while I"m not a fan of the title, I really couldn't give a flying f&*^
I'm tired of hearing about "Star Wars" sequel period!!!!! Just do the movie, make money, and then do more sequels to satisfy the new home of "Star Wars," Walt Disney Pictures!
And honestly? I'm beginning to hate J.J. Abrams!!! The last "Star Trek" movie wasn't that good, it made me long for the original,...

They’ve always favored the tall-and-thin body type for their advertisements but Victoria’s Secret may have gone too far with their latest initiative.
The lingerie giant launched their new Body By Victoria bra collection and titled the accompanying campaign “The Perfect Body” with Behati Prinsloo, Lily Aldridge and Jasmine Tookes.
Striking back against the notion that the Angels have the ‘perfect body,’ an online petition has been circulating to demand that Victoria’s Secret change the wording on the ads.
According to the anti-ad movement, “Victoria’s Secret needs to apologize for, and amend the irresponsible marketing of your new bra range 'Body.’ It sends out an unhealthy and damaging message about women’s bodies and how they should be judged.”
Furthermore, “Every day women are bombarded with advertisements aimed at making them feel insecure about their bodies, in the hope that they will spend money on products that...

Ah, "The Expendables" franchise. Much like the actors who star in the movie -- it just won't die. Every couple of years we're #blessed with one of these movies, which feature a bunch of past-their-prime action stars, many of whom were vastly more popular 30 years ago, embroiled in some kind of scenario where they have to fire round after round of high powered weapon while cracking wise and acknowledging, at least to a certain degree, that they've all gotten very old.
If the trailers are any indication, "The Expendables 3" is the last film in the franchise (the words "One Last Ride" keep being thrown around). So they've rounded up all the old folks (among them: Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Robert Davi, Wesley Snipes and Kelsey Grammer) and placed all kinds of guns in their hands and sent them about their business.

The synergistic machine of Disney is kind of mind-boggling.
Consider the multiple properties it owns, from Pixar to Lucasfilm to Marvel, and how each of these streams feeds into the other and it becomes a little overwhelming to comprehend. Take, for example, last week's announcement that Marvel Comics would now publish all "Star Wars"-related comic books, taking over from Dark Horse Comics, who had been publishing the four-color spin-offs for over 20 years. Disney owns Marvel and "Star Wars," so it should lead to perfect, cross-promotional bliss, right? Especially since the first books are scheduled to come out in 2015, around the time J.J. Abrams's "Star Wars: Episode VII" is released into theater. Right?
Well, not so fast, according to a Hollywood Reporter report, which suggests that the merge could mean fewer "Star Wars" comic titles (and less standing for the always wonderful Dark Horse).

As for the titular locale itself, creators Marlene King, Joseph Dougherty and Oliver Goldstick have truly outdone themselves. The town of Ravenswood feels like a Hitchcock movie come to life, with dashes of Twin Peaks and ’80s horror sprinkled throughout. I’m sure most of that was intentional, but regardless of where the creative trinity got its inspiration,...
