Filmed with the title of its 1978 Trevor Meldal-Johnsen source novel ''Always'' but retitled "Déjà Vu" due to Steven Spielberg's having registered "Always" for his planned Un nommé Joe (1943) remake (Spielberg's Always (1989), planned since 1981, would not go before the cameras until 1989).
The film was made and first released about seven years after its source novel 'Always' by Trevor Meldal-Johnsen had been first published in 1978.
Cast members, Claire Bloom and Shelley Winters, had both previously starred about twenty-three years earlier in Les liaisons coupables (1962). They also both appeared in the television special Stars for Israel (1967).
Penultimate theatrical feature film of actress Marianne Stone who played Mabel. Her last would be Terry on the Fence (1986).
The film's home video sleeve notes in the USA stated that this movie ''...was filmed on location and features several sequences in the historic Drury Lane Theatre'' whilst ''...juxtaposing contemporary and '30s London''.
