Loosely based on the story of the so-called Monster of Florence, both this and the aptly named Il mostro di Firenze (1986) use the same visual motif of car windows shattering in slow motion after being shot by "The Monster."
The film suffers slightly from having had a rushed production schedule of just four weeks as the producers wanted to get to cinemas before a competing film also based on the 'Monster of Florence' murders; the other movie using that title which was how the press dubbed the killings. As it turned out the other film stuck closer to the facts of the case and so was delayed by legal challenges from the families of the victims. Both movies were banned from being screened in the Florence region due to their subject matter.
