This May will be the 30th anniversary of when viewers were first introduced to those cotton candy-loving visitors from above in Stephen Chiodo's Killer Klowns From Outer Space, and on May 19th in Los Angeles, the movie's three-decade mark will be celebrated in style at The Montalban Theatre.
Similar to a three-ring circus, the May 19th celebration will include multiple performance for attendees to enjoy, including fortune tellers, contortionist Bonnie Morgan (who played Samara in Rings), a Q&A with the cast and crew, and a screening of Killer Klowns From Outer Space with a live score accompaniment from The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, conducted by composer John Massari.

Television director in the glory days of the BBC, who went on to make feature films
Alan Bridges, who has died aged 86, was a leading director during the glory days of the BBC, from the mid-60s to the early 70s. Today, whenever media pundits analyse the history of television drama, they wax lyrical about The Wednesday Play and its successor Play for Today, bemoaning the virtual disappearance of the single play.
By the time Bridges started working in the Wednesday Play slot, he was already one of the BBC's most experienced TV directors – he had directed excellent 10-part adaptations of two 19th-century classics, Great Expectations and Les Misérables (both in 1967) – but he relished the "right to fail" ethos at the BBC, enjoying working with exciting contemporary writers.

You’ve got to love a show that gets stronger over time… or at least gets higher ratings, and since that’s exactly the case with Syfy‘s Haven, fans can relax for quite a while. The network has ordered 26 new episodes, and they will air as a split fifth season. 13 will air in the fall, and the remaining 13 will air sometime in 2015.
According to the announcement, it isn’t just ratings that are high on the network’s radar. Up on the social media chatter front, the show is clearly proving itself as one with loyal, and vocal, fans, and the network is paying attention to that.

Wow, dreams really Can come true! Not only has Syfy renewed our beloved Haven for another season, but it has put in a double order – yes, Twenty-six episodes of Haven coming our way! Am I concerned that this is supposed to be a “congratu-dolences” because it might be a final two seasons? Of course I am. Do I think that’s what it is? No I Do Not. Will I let any such concerns dampen my celebrations? No Way.

In recognition of the job HBO CEO Michael Fuchs had done growing HBO and diversifying its business, he was invited uptown in 1995 to take over Warner Music while still keeping HBO as part of his new, expanded dominion. Assuming Fuchs’ top exec slot at HBO was Jeff Bewkes.
Not long after Fuchs had been given command of HBO in 1984 after the ouster of Frank Biondi, it had been clear that Fuchs’ strengths were not universal. Programming and long-term strategic vision were his fortes. Some of the more mundane and, for Fuchs, onerous tasks, such as kissing up to officers of the major cable MSOs, was something for which the often high-handed Fuchs didn’t have much of an affinity. The solution had been to divvy the company up, putting those non-Fuchsian — but critically important — responsibilities under a newly-created office of President.

Legendary Comics has announced that they will be continuing the monster-mashing adventures of John Tower in 2014 as a monthly series under the masterful pens of writer Matt Wagner (Grendel, Sandman Mystery Theatre) and artist Simon Bisley (Lobo, Melting Pot).
The series will continue the spook-slaying shenanigans of John Tower, a centuries-old supernatural bounty hunter who is on the hunt for a collection of mysterious artifacts. Attempting to stop him from achieving his goals are the Chateau Group, a corporation that holds a diabolical influence that extends to the world's leaders that seeks the same artifacts.
The one-two punch of Wagner and Bisley is especially exciting. Grendel is one of the greatest comic series of all time, and Bisley's art has graced everything from comics to Danzig album covers, so this is the sort of pairing that makes my nerd heart sing.

Haven Season 4 is coming to wrap itself around us in all its creepy mysterious gorgeous Nova Scotia-posing-as-New England goodness, and I am So Ready. They’ve even made it easy to remember the premiere date: Friday the 13th of next month.
I’m thrilled that Colin Ferguson (Eureka) is joining as a recurring guest star, and now we have news of two others. I hope they all fare better than last year’s recurring guest star. You know, the psychologist? Yowie.
With so many shows, new characters can be disruptive, but the casting in this series has always been impeccable, and seamless with the writing and the collective excellence of the show. And no matter how hard they try, and sometimes they do try, guest stars seem to never be able to permanently break up my favorite love/buddy triangle of Audrey, Nathan, and Duke.
But wait til you see who Christian Camargo (Dexter) plays…...

Every year, in addition to more than 400 features, the Seattle International Film Festival also presents an extensive series of shorts. While fests like this may be your only chance to see many of the full-length films, the odds are even worse that you’re going to stumble across most of these smaller offerings. There aren’t a lot of mainstream distribution avenues for short films, they don’t get released into theaters, so if you miss them now, you’re probably shit out of luck. Digging into the darker side of things, the films in the “Nightmare Mystery Theatre” program offer you quick glimpses into the twisted, violent, and horrific. “Root” If movies have taught us nothing, it’s that sex in weird places only leads to bad things. For example, take Caleb Johnson’s new short “Root.” After a steamy night of passion with a man who is not her fiancé,...

Excellent, some Haven news! Production has begun for Season 4 of this absolutely terrific show, up in gorgeous Halifax. Everyone I’ve talked with who’s involved in the show’s production talks about the big part the location plays in the series, and I agree. Press Release: Startling new mysteries and secrets are in the works as Syfy’s hit series Haven goes into production today, May 8, on an all-new 13 episode Season 4 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

During its third season, Haven averaged 2.3 million total viewers, 1.1 million Adults 25-54 and 901,000 Adults 18-49. It was the #1 cable drama during its Friday night at 10 Pm timeslot (based on Live + 7 data) in Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and total viewers.

Haven airs on Syfy in the Us and Showcase in Canada.
The supernatural drama series Haven has been renewed for a 13-episode fourth season to air in 2013, Showcase has announced.
Haven, is loosely based on the novella The Colorado Kid by Stephen King. The show is set in the titular seaside town which is supposed to be on the coast of Maine, although the series is filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada. Despite its picture postcard appearance, Haven has a turbulent history as a result of the so-called ‘troubles’ that afflict the local residents.
Front and center in events in Haven is Audrey Parker (Emily Rose). In the series premiere Parker comes to the town as an FBI agent. However, after befriending local cop Nathan Wournos (Lucas Bryant) and the roguish Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour) she joins the Haven Pd and investigates the town’s many secrets. Some of these have...

Those of us who know and love the very excellent Haven know that the town is a wee bit creepy. Previously it’s been the townspeople who have been slightly (or more than slightly) scary, but tonight we learn that even the buildings can have issues – or at least one special building can. In fact, the building used for the location shoot has a history of its own.

It wasn’t an incident-free shoot, by the way. In a recent interview, Eric Balfour told us that at one point “the ground underneath that house literally sucked my leg out from underneath me, threw me on the ground and then took out Emily with it.” Emily Rose agreed, and said that “we were really happy to get out of that house. It was creepy.” How cool is that?...

This new season of Haven is absolutely terrific; familiar yet fresh, just the way we like our favorite shows. We would absolutely hang out with – heck, we would date, if we were available and they were willing – any of the main characters of this show. Charming, intelligent, witty, perceptive, loyal, supportive, and each one of them an absolute biscuit. Yes, even the Teagues. There is just something about this town…

Some of the best news coming out of Syfy lately is the fact that Haven is returning for its third season on September 21, less than a month away. There is an atmosphere on the show, set in a small seaside town in Maine (no surprise, as it’s based on a novella by Stephen King), that combines with the exceptional cast chemistry and fantastically twisty plots to make it easily my favorite show on Syfy. You could say it has – sorry – an Edge.
Because it does. WWE superstar Edge (Adam Copeland) joined the show for a few guest appearances last season as Dwight, a “cleaner” of the aftermath of Troubled incidents, and now we hear from Syfy that he’ll be back for Season 3. It would be easy to suspect that this is stunt casting, but honestly, he’s a natural. The show has consistently excellent writing, but the actors still need to bring it,...

The science fiction world suffered a great loss with the death of the legendary Ray Bradbury, who departed this universe on June 5th 2012 at the age of 91. An incredible influence on the genre during the forties and fifties, Bradbury re-defined 20th Century American fiction with a prolific output that tackled a wide variety of subjects. But it was science fiction that he will be best remembered for. Most of his short stories and novels depicted a bleak utopian future ruled by media technology. This was made all the more unique by the fact that Bradbury never drove a car. His most famous works are The Illustrated Man, Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles.
The family tree itself had one interesting skeleton in the cupboard. Bradbury’s ancestor was Mary Bradbury, who was tried as a witch during the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692. She was married to Massachusetts born Captain Thomas Bradbury.

Author and screenwriter Ray Bradbury passed away last night at the age of 91, and he’ll be missed for a whole lot more than just those books on your high school reading list. Today, as you head into the theaters to see The Hunger Games and Prometheus, stroll down you bookstore aisle to pick up the latest hot dystopian Ya novel, or flip on your ginormous flat-screen TV, you owe something to Bradbury. As much as we refer to George Orwell’s Big Brother of 1984, rail against the dangers of Aldous Huxley‘s Brave New World and conjure up nightmares of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, those book-burning “firefighters” of Fahrenheit 451 strikes fear into the hearts of many a reader and writer. His sci-fi writing (in short stories, The Ray Bradbury Theater TV show, and elsewhere), has also inspired many too follow in his imaginative footsteps. Granted...

Legendary science-fiction author Ray Bradbury passed away Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. Bradbury, who was 91, leaves behind a legacy that extends beyond the literature community, with tens of TV and film credits to his name.
Here at HuffPost Entertainment, we've collected some of the "Fahrenheit 451" author's most notable film and TV moments. Interestingly, Bradbury has a great deal of foreign language writing credits, including six episodes of 2004's "Un, Dos, Tres ... Resonda Otra Vez."
Bradbury is also credited with "El Que Espera" and "El Umbral," from 2004 and 2003, respectively.
Of his work in television, the late author is perhaps best known for "The Ray Bradbury Theater," a series that spanned the late '80s and early '90s. Bradbury has 58 credits from that show, writing both the screenplays and the stories that inspired them.
Bradbury's efforts were not confined to screenwriting alone. The man of many talents' most recent onscreen appearance was in 1996's "Corwin,...

Today, one of the greatest contributors to science fiction was lost to the stars. Legendary author Ray Bradbury has passed away at the age of 91.
It's impossible to imagine what the landscape of science fiction would be without the contributions of Bradbury, whose short stories and novels inspired a generation or two of authors, filmmakers and more. Born in 1920 in Illinois, Bradbury was a voracious reader, and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, H.G. Wells, Jules Verne and Edgar Rice Burroughs had a tremendous influence on him. After two life changing incidents -- seeing Lon Chaney in "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" and being told by carnival entertainer Mr. Electrico to "Live forever!" -- Bradbury decided to become an author, and wrote every day.
Bradbury initially started writing short stories for science fiction fanzines, but it would be the work that he banged out on a rented typewriter in UCLA's...

Ray Bradbury -- the science fiction-fantasy writer behind films such as Fahrenheit 451, Moby Dick and TV shows The Twilight Zone and The Ray Bradbury Theater -- died Tuesday night. He was 91.
Bradbury's daughter Alexandra confirmed her father's death on Wednesday, but did not provide additional details. Although the sci-fi master had to slow down in recent years due to a stroke and used a wheelchair, Bradbury remained active into his 90s, turning out new novels, plays, screenplays and a volume of poetry. He was said to have written every day in the basement office of his home in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles
In addition to his explosive novel Fahrenheit 451 -- about a future American society in which books are outlawed -- Bradbury also scripted John Huston's 1956 film version of Moby Dick and wrote for The Twilight Zone and other television programs, including The Ray Bradbury Theater, which adapted...

Extremely sad news this morning as io9 has confirmed this morning that Ray Bradbury has passed away in Los Angeles.
The author was 91.
Bradbury was born in 1920 in Illinois. He went on to pen many classics including Something Wicked This Way Comes, Farenheit 451, The Halloween Tree, The Martian Chronicles and countless short story collections. His tale, The Fog Horn, was adapted into the creature feature The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. He also inspired The Ray Bradbury Theater, a series based on his works which ran on HBO for two seasons.
Needless to say, the man was a machine, making it a point to write every day, as he has said in past interviews.
I had a chance to meet Mr. Bradbury on a few occasions and he was incredibly kind and always happy to speak to his fans. He will definitely be missed.

The science fiction author Ray Bradbury, whose work inspired dozens of films, died today at the age of 91. He was well known for his inspirational television series The Ray Bradbury Theatre and his most famous book, Fahrenheit 451, was made into a film with Oskar Werner and Julie Christie, directed by François Truffaut, in 1966.
The largely self-educated Bradbury, who grew up in Hollywood and once dreamed of becoming an actor, got his start in film with the sensational 1953 hit It Came From Outer Space. Other adaptations of his work include The Illustrated Man, A Sound Of Thunder and Something Wicked This Way Comes. He also wrote several screenplays including that for John Huston's acclaimed version of Moby Dick. Enormously admired within the industry, he had close friends including Ray Harryhausen and Federico Fellini.

The mystery of Haven deepens week by week for Audrey Parker (Emily Rose).
The cast and crew of Showcase’s supernatural mystery series Haven are heading back to the coast of Nova Scotia for April 18, which has been announced as the official start date for production on Season 3 of the show
Loosely based on the novella The Colorado Kid by Stephen King, Haven follows former FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose). Parker becomes a cop in the small coastal town of Haven, Maine, and soon discovers the town’s many secrets, which hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of her past.
As supernatural series go, Haven is generally low key, but it’s appealing characters, intriguing mysteries and beautiful setting have helped to make it a deserved hit in this writer’s opinion.

WWE fans, another WWE Superstar will be lending their talent to a Syfy show. Joining the ranks of Cody Rhodes who guest starred on Warehouse 13 this past fall, Edge aka Adam Copeland will be guest starring on Syfy’s Haven in its upcoming new season this summer.
This won’t be Copeland’s first involvement with the sci-fi/fantasy genre. He had a small part in Highlander: Endgame in 2000 and will also guest star in the final episode of the third season of Amanda Tapping‘s Sanctuary.
In Haven, Edge will play Dwight Hendrickson, “a shrewd, longtime Haven resident” with connections to Nathan’s late father and Haven’s ‘troubled’ past. Check out the full press release below:

You may remember from back in November, 2009 an anthology series called As Darkness Falls created by John Alsedek. It has been picked up for distribution by publisher Speaking Volumes, but that's just the beginning. Now Alsedek is taking aim at the TV market with three different series currently being pitched, all of which would be filmed in high contrast black & white.
From the Press Release:
During the ‘Golden Age of Television’, fans of the horror, sci-fi & fantasy genres were treated to a cavalcade of programs that would go on to become legends. "The Twilight Zone", "The Outer Limits", and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", as well as lesser-known shows such as Boris Karloff’s "Thriller" (named by Stephen King as “the best horror series ever on TV”), left millions of viewers in utter awe on a weekly basis…and a great deal of the reason for that was because the programs were filmed in black & white.

A rare screening of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes will be presented at San Francisco's famed movie palace The Castro at midnight on Halloween. This Walt Disney film, which has never been released on DVD, will be shown in a 35mm print.
Based on the novel by Ray Bradbury, who turned 90 earlier this year, the film had a troubled production. Bradbury, who wrote the screenplay and was a co-producer, fired director Jack Clayton and reportedly finished the film himself. One notable change: the original music by Georges Delerue was replaced by a stunning score from James Horner (Titanic, Avatar). While the film has its flaws, it is visually stylish and worth checking out. The original source material, the short story 'Dark Carnival', was later produced as a half -hour episode of The Ray Bradbury Theater and is even better.

Horror fanatics are still buzzing like chainsaws over the Academy Awards’ genre montage. Anywhere there could be a conversation about it online, there was one. Many were upset over the Twilight ‘tweens’ participation, as if their mere presence sent a message about the state of scary in Hollyweird, USA.
A few seemed happy, though, to just get a glimpse of their beloved Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 if only for a few seconds. But many called the selections generic and thoughtless, demanding the likes of Demons and TerrorVision instead (well, maybe not TerrorVision; that was just me).
How about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Re-Animator? It’s Alive? Tombs of the Blind Dead? Coffin Joe? No list is perfect, but with a bit more care and a phone call to any one of us, the Oscars could have elevated that section into a real scream. Or maybe they...

When Mike Mignola created B.P.R.D. to tell stories of the eponymous organization he’d created in the pages of Hellboy, he also handed the reins over to new creative teams. It was a necessary move, as Mignola was still keeping busy with the adventures of his big, red, stone-fisted firstborn, but it must have been an unnerving move. Mignola had created these characters, and written them for years. Now, it was time to find artists and writers who could help carry the B.P.R.D. story forward while the creator moved back to a plotting/consultant role on the series. Luckily, B.P.R.D. has been blessed with a pretty constant flow of shining talents. Each writer and penciller finds a way to capture Mignola’s indelible style, while also taking the characters and mythos in a fresh, individual direction.
One of these inspired artists is Guy Davis.

The Award-winning author Ray Bradbury will be returning to television with the announcement yesterday of The Bradbury Chronicles, which will be a six hour miniseries based on his works. White Oak Films announced the deal although no network has picked up the project for broadcast.
White Oak's John Philip Dayton will executive produce with Merrill Capps, Todd Klick, Cory Travalena and Dale Olson doing the actual production chores. Bradbury will be an executive producer with input over stories selected and overseeing the adaptations themselves. Dayton previously partnered with Bradbury on Showtime’s The Ray Bradbury Theater, which ran from 1985-1992.
The author, now 89, remains largely confined to his home given declining health, but continues to write with Summer Morning, Summer Night his most recent work, due out in paperback next June.

Salvaged from the unpublished Starlog #375. Posted here for the record. The science fiction universe sadly salutes these fantastic talents who died earlier this year.
Bob May (January) The beloved man inside Lost In Space’s irrepressible Robot. (interviewed in Starlog #57, #201)
Charles H. Schneer (January) The veteran producer who shepherded all of Ray Harryhausen’s movies from It Came From Beneath The Sea (1955) to Clash Of The Titans (1981). Those classic genre films included Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers, 20 Million Miles To Earth, The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad, The Three Worlds Of Gulliver, Mysterious Island (1961), Jason And The Argonauts, First Men In The Moon, The Valley Of Gwangi, The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad and Sinbad And The Eye Of The Tiger. Sans Harryhausen, he also produced I Aim At The Stars (a.k.a. Wernher Von Braun), Hellcats Of The Navy and Half A Sixpence. (Starlog #151, #152, #153)

The Associated Press has reported that actor David Carradine was found dead this morning in his hotel room in Bangkok, an apparent suicide. Carradine, who was in the Thai city to shoot a movie, was 72.
The actor was discovered by a hotel maid hanged with a curtain cord, and a preliminary police investigation found no signs of foul play. Further details are being withheld out of consideration for his family. Carradine’s long career ranged from the art house to the grindhouse and everything in between, with horror credits including Larry Cohen’s Q, Gary Graver’s Trick Or Treats, Robert Martin Carroll’s Sonny Boy, Anthony Hickox’s Sundown: The Vampire In Retreat (pictured) and Waxwork II: Lost In Time, Fred Olen Ray’s Evil Toons, Ethan Wiley’s Children Of The Corn V: Fields Of Terror, Mitch Marcus’ Knocking On Death’S Door, Mark Lambert Bristol’s The Monster Hunter,...

The Final Chapter (read Part 2 here)! We have Howard the Duck, Freejack and Shyamalan flicks on the list; these are never good signs. Nonetheless we are bringing it all to you in full-color and in 3-D. (Ed. Note: Due to the economy, 3-D has been dropped and will be replaced by Smell-o-vision — check for your scratch and sniff cards in about 4-6 weeks.) Best Sound went to rage-zombie veterans Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke, leaving Mark Weingarten who worked on Rejuvenatrix in the dust. The Sound Editing section contains one too many references to Ron Silver, and at least two references to a Roger Corman film.
The visual effects category pulled on our heartstrings this year due to the loss of Stan Winston, who was noted en memoriam along with other heroes, Vampira, Leonard Rosenman and Charles H. Schneer...
