A MUST see movie!

This movie hasn't been shown since its release. It should! It is a great story of courage, triumph, hope, friendship, tragedy and love. Lifetime should definitely add this to its list of must see movies! You can't go wrong watching this story! Glynnis and Armand are great in this! I was very moved when it originally aired in the early 80's. It made an impact on my life that I will never forget. I always wonder how the characters are doing now. This movie showed that the nurse triumphed over what life dealt her in the tragic accident. If you can find this movie on tape/CD please get it. I will be waiting for its re-airing! I hope someone that can make that happen reads this!

Tale of the personal tragedy and ultimate survival

This is a wonderful film for both those who have and have not experienced such trauma. I saw this film in the 80's. I had a car accident in 1997. My face popped through the windshield, leaving me temporarily blind and with deformed facial features that required a half dozen surgeries over 3 years. Today, you'd never know it ever happened to me, my surgeon was amazing, but when Leola unwrapped her bandages for the first time and saw her face it sent chills down my spine. I cried when I saw my face too... I believed my whole life was over. The portrayal of her emotional state immediately after the accident, her absolute need to get "back to normal" and back to work just 5 weeks after the accident, and especially the patience required to let the skin heal through the initial trauma and all of the follow-up surgeries was absolutely accurate. There is something for all of us to learn from Leola's story and I am glad they put her story on the screen. MFTV, yes, but one of the best of these types of films, and certainly one of the most inspirational and accurate survival stories I have ever seen.

One of the Best Movies I have ever seen

I viewed this film on Lifetime TV in 1984 and was very moved by the content. It made me stop and think about my own strength and how I would handle this same situation. I don't understand why it has never been aired again since that time. I always watch lifetime with the hope of seeing this movie. If anyone every hears of it being aired again on lifetime or any other station, or it being available for purchase on DVD, PLEASE email me to let me know. I would love to have my teenage daughters see this movie. It is a real life lesson in what the meaning of TRUE LOVE means. It teaches you that beauty is only skin deep and that at any time our lives can change in a split second.

Very good movie

I have not seen this movie again since it aired on television in the 80's. It was such a touching, amazing movie I just can't believe it hasn't been back on. If anyone finds when it's showing again, please e-mail me, I would love to record it! (If you love Armand Assante, you'll love this movie!)

Comments on movie "Why Me"

I saw this movie way back when it was first released on TV in 1984, and I have wanted a copy of it ever since we got our first VCR. This movie really stayed with me, and I enjoyed it SO much. The story line was excellent, and I was moved by the trauma, the kindness of this doctor, and the way things unfolded.

In the movie, this woman who is horribly disfigured experiences rejection, heart break and physical torture as well as mental. She is no longer beautiful, and her companion has left her. She is at the end of her rope when a professional and very handsome doctor takes an interest in her. You can almost feel her pain.

I highly recommend it and must have a copy!

Looking For This Movie to Buy

My sister and I saw this movie years ago and LOVED it! We enjoy a before-and-after story, and this movie depicts this theme beautifully. It covers the horror of a car crash, the heartbreak of being divorced for shallow reasons, the medical community at its best, and a love story with a happy ending.

I want to own this movie.

Would love to own movie

I remember seeing this movie when I was in college and I still think about it over 23 years later. I have been trying for years to find the movie on video or DVD when a colleague of mine at work told me about your website. Needless to say, I was thrilled to find your review. This story had it all. Drama, tragedy, suspense, romance and real life emotion. Just that someone could actually survive something like that and go through what she did in the aftermath. Then to have someone see so much potential in her and then fall in love. This was a true love story if there ever was one. Love of a doctor for a person who would be his future wife. Love for a patient who would marry the doctor who basically rebuilt her face. I was awe struck at how determined she was to live and fight for her life. I would love to see this movie be remade into a contemporary version since I have told so many friends about this story. I have only run across one friend who knew what I was talking about. I would really like to own a copy of the movie as it was. Any suggestions as how to get one? I have searched the Internet without success. If anyone knows what site to go on for a video or DVD, please let me know. Thanks

I Finally Found It!

This particular Film had such an impact on my life. I did see it on TV when it was released and was fortunate to see a rerun of it a few years later. I agree with all the other positive reviews of this film. However, rather than waste your time repeating the same rave reviews I just wanted to let everyone know you can find this film on You Tube and view it for free. ENJOY!

This TV movie---a MUST SEE

I actually cried through much of the climactic drama of this movie.

Funny thing is, I looked EVERYWHERE for this title and always came up with dead ends, probably because I thought it was a mid-90's TV film, and it's actually from 1984. No wonder.

Anyway... Armande Assante --and granted he's a truly talented, very sexy multi-level actor-- TRULY deserves the most high appraisal for his tasty performance as the chief surgeon. He absolutely made my mouth water (for lack of a better word) here. And Glynnis O'Connor is magnificent in the portrayal of Leola May Harmon. This is another TRUE STORY movie that really reaches to the guts of television drama.

When I first caught this on TV back in the mid-90's, I assumed it was a recent film. I did not realize it was actually an 80's TV movie--not that that's any relevance here. And for some odd reason I thought the title role of Leola May was portrayed brilliantly by actress Amy Madigan. Oops.

LIke I said....I saw this film only once, 12 years ago (1994). But...oh the irony....the drama stuck with me ever since. And when I finally got around years later now, looking up Assante's name on the Internet----what a surprising gas to find THIS MOVIE title listed under his name! Whooo----I was excited! I hope this film will be released on DVD someday. It is DEFINITELY WELL WORTH the cost.

Great, great TV movie

I had not seen this made for TV movie in over 40 years. I saw it on TV in in 1984 and thought it was really good. I watched it again online a couple of days ago and my opinion has grown stronger. In my opinion this is about the best TV movie i've ever seen, bar none. This is a real gem. If you can catch it sometimes, you won't be disappointed. This is a real gem. Armad Assante who played the doctor made you feel he was a real doctor and played his part to a "T". And to top it off, this movie was based on a real event. Knowing this really happed in real life upped the ante that much more for me.
