Waiting until a few shopping days before Christmas to buy gifts is stressful. Picture having only had a few months to shoot, edit, and market a blood-soaked reboot of 1984’s Silent Night, Deadly Night for the big screen. As of April 2025, Cineverse’s updated version is in production and is slated for a fast-approaching (and fitting) release on December 12, 2025.
Photos recently emerged of lead actor Rohan (Halloween Ends) Campbell, who plays the demented slasher in a Santa suit, Billy Chapman, taking over the role played by Robert Brian Wilson in the 1984 film. Supporting Campbell’s killer Santa are the original film’s producers, Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead. Horror fans will appreciate their presence since Schneid and Whitehead likely wish to preserve their legacy by delivering a blood-splattered Santa slasher.

Audiences these days have truly grown to love the terrifying presence of horror in their holidays. Whether it be Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, the Yuletide season, or even St. Patrick's Day, the number of holiday-themed horror movies has increased over the past few decades. Despite its growing popularity, though, it was a controversial theme back then. In fact, when Silent Night, Deadly Night hit theaters in 1984, a conservative group of parents found the feature offensive for tarnishing the image of their beloved Saint Nick. But that’s not to say the movie hasn’t had its brighter days; it has even found its rightful viewers several years later and is now deemed a cult classic. Now, with the movie confirmed to be receiving a modern reboot, Deadline has unveiled the first image of Rohan Campbell as the new Billy Chapman — a role first played by Robert Brian Wilson.

Four years have gone by since we heard that Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios, the folks behind Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, were going to be making a reboot of the classic Christmas slasher movie Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here), and while those plans didn’t work out and Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios are no longer involved, a remake is still moving forward. Last November, we learned that the film will be coming our way from Cineverse, the company behind the Terrifier franchise, with writer/director Mike P. Nelson at the helm. Movies are a love language. When you stop to think about it, it’s a grand gesture for hundreds of people to put years of effort, time, and sacrifice into making something for you. On a tangential level, to crib from Roger Ebert’s wise words, movies are an “empathy machine.” We’re allowed to feel some sense of, if not love, then at least compassionate understanding. I’d argue this ability to feel empathy is not limited by genre or subgenre. This is not to say that every movie invites empathy, but rather that it can be found regardless of the aspects that make up the genre.
And yes, that even includes what Ebert called “Dead Teenager Movies,” more commonly known as the slasher film. As recent entries in the subgenre have proven, there’s plenty of compassion to be squeezed from the slasher genre as well. You may...

Art The Clown exploded the latest quarter for Cineverse as the company’s revenue shot higher to $40.7 million in the last three months of 2024 from $13.3 million the year earlier.
Net income swing to $7.2 million (38 cents a share) from a loss of $2.9 million, (22 cents).

The shares, which at this time last year were in danger of falling short of compliance with Nasdaq market’s listing requirements, popped 5% after market to $4.75 on the numbers.

Three and a half years ago, it was announced that Wolf Creek 3 was moving forward, with Rachele Wiggins making her feature directorial debut on the film and John Jarratt, who played Australian serial killer Mick Taylor in the films Wolf Creek (watch it Here) and Wolf Creek 2 (watch that one Here) as well as two seasons of a Wolf Creek television series (you can see season 1 at This Link and season 2 at This One) on board to reprise the role. Unfortunately, something has been holding the project back from starting production… but a while back, it was announced that Wolf Creek 3, now going by the title Wolf Creek: Legacy, is set to start filming in Australia this year, with Wiggins having been replaced at the helm by Sean Lahiff, who was editor on Wolf Creek 2. Now, entertainment studio Cineverse and their horror division Bloody Disgusting have revealed that...

This Christmas, you might want to stay on the nice list. A new version of Silent Night, Deadly Night is heading to theaters in late 2025, bringing a fresh take on the cult slasher classic.
Cineverse, the company behind Terrifier 3 and the parent company of Bloody Disgusting, is behind the project, and the first official poster has just been revealed.
The poster, created by Creepy Duck Design, gives a chilling first look at what’s to come. At the same time, Deadline reports that Studiocanal’s genre label, Sixth Dimension, has acquired global rights to the film outside of North America, while Cineverse will handle distribution in the U.S.
Directed by Mike P. Nelson, this new Silent Night, Deadly Night will begin production this spring. It reimagines the 1984 slasher directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr., which followed a young boy who witnessed his parents’ murder at the hands of a man dressed as Santa.

Nearly four years have gone by since we heard that Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios, the folks behind Jeepers Creepers: Reborn, were going to be making a reboot of the classic Christmas slasher movie Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here)… and while those plans didn’t work out and Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios are no longer involved, a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake is still moving forward. Back in November, we learned that the film will be coming our way from Cineverse, the company behind the Terrifier franchise, with writer/director Mike P. Nelson at the helm. Now, Deadline has broken the news that Sixth Dimension, the new in-house genre label at Studiocanal, has picked up the global rights (excluding North America) to the project as first acquisition. The new Silent Night, Deadly Night will be heading into production this spring, aiming to reach theatres by the end of this year.

Santa Claus has made more appearances in films than Batman, Jason Voorhees, James Bond, and Elvis combined. People love their Santa Claus. Especially in the horror genre. But think about it for a second. This is a guy who spends the entire year isolated in the North Pole with an entire army of tiny elves to do his bidding and keeps tabs on our children throughout the year. Whether they are naughty or nice. Whether they are sleeping or awake. Then, once a year, he hovers over our homes like a New Jersey Uap and slides into our chimneys with middle-of-the-night gifts for our kids. It’s pretty frightening when you think about it. This is probably why on Tubi alone, you’ll find twenty-five or so different films that feature Santa Claus slicing and dicing his way through the night. It’s inherently creepy. So with that being said,...

The slasher genre is known for being the most repetitive and formulaic of all the horror subtypes, and the first Silent Night, Deadly Night film was no exception. Its simple concept — a killer Santa slicing his way through a cast of naughty nubiles — was repeated in Part 2, and that's about as much as most fans know. However, the next three sequels are outrageously campy and creative, bringing in elements of science fiction and the supernatural to subvert the stereotype that slashers are pure repetition.
The first two Silent Night, Deadly Night installments are very entertaining despite being fairly conventional, but the next three sequels include what are legitimately some of the strangest movies ever made. This series full of psychic experiments, feminist cults, spontaneous human combustion, and horny robots is sure to make fans forget all about the Grinch this holiday season. These x-mas horror movies prove the holiday season isn’t all snowflakes and carols.
If the success of “Terrifier 3” taught us anything, it’s that Christmas-themed horror movies can really work. Like, work to the extent of almost $90 million in worldwide gross on a $2 million budget! Talk about making a “killing” at the box office. In that movie, Art the Clown returns with some festive cheer to terrorize Sienna Shaw once more, this time with the help of a resurrected Victoria Heyes over the holidays. Now, in that Christmas / horror crossover spirit, let’s have some fun and countdown the top seven holiday horror movies you can stream right now. None of them are as dark as the Terrifier movies (in part because my stomach can’t take much more), but I promise they’re just as fun!

Director/producer Sean S. Cunningham has admitted that his 1980 slasher film "Friday the 13th" was a deliberate effort to imitate the style and success of John Carpenter's "Halloween," which had come out only two years prior. Cunningham tried to copt Carpenter's "killer's eye perspective" camera angles, and it's no coincidence that both films take place on dates famous for horror, bad luck, and death. Cunningham's gambit was successful, though, and his $550,000 movie ended up making nearly $60 million at the box office. It also spawned 11 sequels, many of which came to define the horror trends of the '80s. Although none of the "Friday the 13th" movies are particularly beloved by critics, they are a gestalt-defining phenomenon.
Holiday-themed horror films began popping up regularly in theaters. The years after "Friday the 13th" saw the release of "April Fool's Day," "New Year's Evil," "Prom Night," and "Silent Night, Deadly Night."

Given that one of the most beloved yuletide tales of all time contains four ghosts (that would be Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"), you'd think people would've been immediately accepting of horror movies set at Christmas. But once upon a time, people were so scandalized by the notion of slasher Santa Claus that they ran the movie, "Silent Night, Deadly Night" out of theaters.
Now that families routinely gather in front of the television every holiday season to watch such violent delights as "Gremlins" and "Black Christmas," it feels like everything's in play. People are even treating Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut," which contains an orgy centerpiece, as a must-watch Christmas classic. So nothing's shocking anymore. Right?
Have you seen "Adult Swim Yule Log?"
From Casper Kelly, the maker of the 2014 viral sensation "Too Many Cooks," "Adult Swim Yule Log" turned the genre of televised fireplace mood-setters on its soot-coated ear.

Now that it’s officially the holiday season, horror fans will be breaking out all their favorite Christmas-themed nightmares. The holiday horror film has become its own sub-genre over the decades thanks to a vast catalog that includes Black Christmas, Christmas Evil, Better Watch Out, and Anna and the Apocalypse. However, one of the darkest subgenre's darkest films remains 1984’s Silent Night, Deadly Night. The slasher’s legacy has been kept alive thanks to a handful of sequels and physical media releases. Yet it's still one of the few 80s classics that hasn’t come to the 4K format. That’s about to change as Scream Factory is releasing Silent Night, Deadly Night on 4K to honor the franchise’s frosty 40th anniversary this December.

‘Terrifier 3’ is the latest installment in the popular franchise starring Art the Clown. After the success of ‘Terrifier 2,’ Damien Leone started writing ‘Terrifier 3’ with a bigger story. He decided to focus more on the character Victoria since he felt she wasn’t developed enough in the first movie.
Leone also decided to move Art the Clown away from Halloween for the threequel. He shared that his love for Christmas horror inspired the violent scenes in the new movie. Instead of a classic Christmas horror film like ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night,’ Leone was inspired by a TV episode directed by Robert Zemeckis, which led him to create his own version of vicious Santa.
The idea of having Art take over Christmas started during the making of ‘Terrifier 2.’ While driving to the set, producer Phil Falcone saw Christmas decorations and suggested bringing Art into the holiday season.
Leone liked the idea.

Silent Night, Deadly Night, one of many slasher films that were prominent throughout the 1980s, might never have achieved widespread notoriety and recognition had it not been for the outrage from protesters who heavily objected to Santa Claus, a beloved holiday figure, being tied to such a violent film. Theaters were picketed by outraged parents and even Gene Siskel remarked that the filmmakers were profiting from "blood money." As was the case with the Pmrc hearings held the same decade regarding the lyrical themes of many musical artists, the controversy only piqued public curiosity. Thanks to the advent of home video, Silent Night, Deadly Night was soon viewed by anyone who had a penchant for horror films and access to a Vcr.

Don’t call “Terrifier 3” Cineverse’s breakout film. That moment actually came with the surprise success of its predecessor, 2022’s “Terrifier 2.” The original “Terrifier” from 2016 — not released by Cineverse — made only $421,000. Once the sequel landed at Cineverse — then still named Cinedigm — it exploded to an impressive $15.7 million on a shoestring budget, but only after Cineverse scrambled its marketing jets to react in real-time to a viral hit.
For the third “Terrifier” film, CEO Chris McGurk would not be caught off guard again. He and President Erick Opeka used the unusual asset mix of new media they’ve compiled over the last decade plus — everything from a podcast network, a Bob Ross Fast channel, an ad-tech platform, and the horror blog Bloody Disgusting — to create a hyper-targeted theatrical release strategy around “Terrifier 3.”

Angels on top of a fir tree, jolly Santa Claus coming down the chimney, delicious cookies baking in the oven, jaunty carols on the radio. When someone thinks of the holidays, their mind likely jumps to these wholesome memories and images. Horror fans, however, may associate the holidays with their favorite Christmas horror movies and decking the halls with blood splatter and gore.
From Krampus to Better Watch Out, the best Christmas horror movies take the warm and fuzziness of the holiday season and turn them dark and horrific. There are many fantastically festive movies in the genre, but perhaps no film has tainted the holidays quite as much as the recently released, Terrifier 3.

The Christmas carnage on display in Terrifier 3 will continue next year thanks to Brad Miska and Brandon Hill from Cineverse, who are overseeing the newly announced reimagining of one of the most infamous holiday horror films in history: Silent Night, Deadly Night. Released in 1984 by TriStar Pictures, the horror flick featured Robert Brian Wilson in the role of Billy, a young adult who when just a child witnessed the murder of his parents by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Hes placed in an orphanage, taught that punishment is good, and grows up to become the very thing that traumatized him. The '80s were great, werent they?

A divisive Christmas horror movie from the 1980s is getting a second remake. The biggest horror remake boom occured in the 2000s, when a bevy of iconic horror titles were rebooted including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, The House on Sorority Row and more. However, remakes have been produced throughout horror history, including the prominent 1980s examples The Thing and The Blob, and the tradition has continued into the modern era with titles including 2020's The Invisible Man, 2022's Firestarter, and 2024's Salem's Lot.
Christmas horror movies are another longstanding tradition of the genre, as many filmmakers have found unique ways to blend the wholesome iconography of the season with bloody murder and mayhem, creating an unsettling juxtaposition. One of the most famous is Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher Black Christmas, which itself has been remade twice,...
