Tina Fey is bringing an iconic ’80s comedy to a modern generation…with a twist.

“SNL” alum Fey co-creates, co-showruns, writes, executive produces, and stars in the upcoming series “The Four Seasons,” which is based on the 1981 feature film of the same name. “The Four Seasons” reunites Fey with her “30 Rock” collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, who also co-create, co-showrun, write, and EP the show (Fisher additionally directs).

Fey is joined by former “SNL” cast-mate Will Forte and “Date Night” co-star Steve Carell for the series, which is a reunion within a reunion (within a reunion) for the cast. Fey and Forte play a couple who have to sniff out which of their other married pals are on the brink of divorce across four vacations.

The official synopsis reads: “Six old friends head for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up.

Village Roadshow’s Alix Jaffe is joining Miramax as the studio’s new president of television on March 31.

Jaffe, who will report directly to Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, will be responsible for overseeing the company’s teams in Los Angeles, London and Doha, Qatar. Senior vice president Mirsada Abdool Raman will report to Jaffe.

“I’m thrilled to join Jon and the incredible team at Miramax,” Jaffe said in a Tuesday statement. “I have long admired their rich catalog and look forward to creating bold new shows, developing fresh original content and telling stories that push boundaries and resonate with audiences around the world.”

The third season of HBO’s hit controversial show Euphoria has been delayed due to a bevy of reasons, but HBO boss Casey Bloys said last month that the series should commence very soon. “We are shooting Euphoria,” Bloys said. “I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Nothing’s changed. Somebody said something online, and then this whole thing started. We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors are in the show.“

Very little is known about this season. Apparently, even one of the show’s breakout stars, Colman Domingo, hasn’t yet seen a script, but he has been hyped about returning ever since discussing it with the series creator, who is coming off of the equally controversial HBO series The Idol. The actor plays Muncie Daniels, a political consultant-turned-tv pundit who takes a work sabbatical to write the next great American novel. While in the Poconos on his writing retreat, though, Muncie finds himself as the only witness to the murder of a well-known white supremacist, and now he’s being framed for the crime.

Per the official synopsis, “Muncie is forced to go on the run in a desperate fight to clear his name and unravel a global conspiracy before time runs out. Along the way he’ll reconnect with his family, find unlikely allies, and fight against disinformation in a post-truth age.

Sydney Sweeney is set to play legendary film star Kim Novak in Colman Domingo’s Sammy Davis Jr. biopic “Scandalous” at Miramax, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

The project marks the “Rustin” Oscar nominee’s directorial debut and co-stars David Jonsson as the iconic entertainer. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, the film centers on the scandalous and brief love affair between Novak and the Rat Packer, which took place in 1957. Matthew Fantaci wrote the script.

Principal photography on “Scandalous” will take place in Los Angeles after Sweeney and Domingo wrap the third season of HBO series “Euphoria.” Sweeney will produce the project along with Tani Cohen and Bobby Rock. Jon Levin is the executive producer.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news, “Before he became Miramax CEO, Jon Glickman originated the project at Panoramic and remained high on it.”

Exclusive: Deadline has the first exclusive track from Craig DeLeon’s score for The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray, which is set for digital release via Lakeshore Records on March 11, as the Apple TV+ series debuts globally with its first two episodes.

In the six-episode limited series based on Walter Mosley’s novel of the same name, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Dominique Fishback and Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Jackson plays Ptolemy Grey, an ailing man forgotten by his family, by his friends, and even by himself. Suddenly left without his trusted caretaker and on the brink of sinking even deeper into a lonely dementia, Ptolemy is assigned to the care of orphaned teenager Robyn (Fishback). When they learn about a treatment that can restore Ptolemy’s dementia-addled memories, it begins a journey toward shocking truths about the past, present and future.

The California Film Commission announced the latest round of tax credits for film productions on Monday, and once again Netflix emerged as the big winner.

The streaming giant was awarded $60.3 million in state credits, far outpacing Disney ($27.2 million), Warner Bros. ($16.2 million) and Amazon ($16 million). Netflix also led the way in the last round of credits in August 2021, taking $43.3 million.

This time, Netflix was granted credits for four projects: “Atlas,” “Beverly Hills Cop 4,” “Family Leave” and “Unfrosted.”

The latter project stars Jerry Seinfeld in an origin story about the Pop Tart, and was awarded $14.2 million in credits.

“We are so happy to get the California tax credit which enables us to make our whole movie there,” said Seinfeld, who is also writing, directing and producing the film for Netflix. “Having made all of the ‘Seinfeld’ series in L.A., I very much wanted to come back and shoot there again.

AGC Studios has hired two-time Emmy winner B.J. Levin as EVP, non-fiction, to oversee the company’s development and production of non-fiction content for film and television.

Levin has worked as a producer and creative executive for more than 15 years and was most recently showrunner of FX’s Hip Hop Uncovered.

He was showrunner on HBO’s Emmy winner Vice for four seasons and has worked at networks including A&e, Bravo, BBC of Americas, Discovery, MTV, Hulu and National Geographic.

AGC Studios has hired industry veteran B.J. Levin as executive VP of non-fiction.

In his new role, he will oversee the indie company’s development production for film and television. Those duties include continuing to build the studio’s episodic non-fiction and unscripted output, as well as the company’s feature documentary slate. He will report to AGC Television president Lourdes Diaz and founder Stuart Ford.

“We’re excited to continue expanding our non-fiction slate under Bj’s leadership. He brings focus and exceptional taste to an already talented team,” Diaz said.

Levin joins AGC Studios from NBCUniversal, where he was recently the senior VP of development and original programming. He also served as the showrunner of the FX series “Hip Hop Uncovered.” In his 15-year career, Levin has worked at several networks, including A&e, Bravo, Food Network, FX and HBO.

The feature will include both new and classic Christmas songs and center on a down-and-out singer’s life being turned upside down when she is mistaken for writing the next Christmas hit. Ira Madison III is writing the screenplay.

Hudson will next be seen as Aretha Franklin in the biopic “Respect,” directed by Liesl Tommy. Hudson, who was hand-picked by Franklin to play the role, executive produced the film. MGM is planning an Aug. 13, 2021, release date for “Respect,” which also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald and Mary J. Blige.

Jonathan Glickman will produce the Christmas song movie through his Glickmania banner. Molly Mankiewicz will executive produce. The project reunites Hudson with Glickman, who is also producing “Respect.” His credits include “The Dark Half,” “Forever,” “Scandalous!” and “The Addams Family 2.”

Exclusive: New Line has made a preemptive deal for a music-driven holiday comedy pitch that will be fashioned as a potential star vehicle for Jennifer Hudson, the Oscar-winning Dreamgirls star who’ll next star as Aretha Franklin in the upcoming Respect.

The film will be scripted by Ira Madison III, and Hudson will make her debut as producer, alongside Glickmania’s Jonathan Glickman, who’s produced the MGM drama Respect, the drama in which, Aretha Franklin, before she died, handpicked Hudson to star in the story of her life.

The New Line film calls for Hudson to sing Christmas standards, as well as new holiday tunes. Exclusive: Sony Pictures TV has put in development National Enquirer: The Untold Story!, a limited series inspired by the 2019 feature documentary Scandalous: The Untold Story of the National Enquirer, produced and directed by Mark Landsman. The project hails from Black List scribe Kenny Kyle (Just the Facts), Landsman, who will executive produce, and Seth Gordon (United We Fall), who is attached to direct and executive produce via his Exhibit A Film as part of his overall deal with Spt.

In my lifetime, I have always known The National Inquirer to be a trashy, fake news source that didn’t base any of its reports in reality, and just figured old people either thought it was real or liked the absurdity of it.
