Evergreen Tree.Produced during South Korean cinema’s so-called Golden Age, Shin Sang-ok’s classic film Evergreen Tree is about an idealistic young teacher, Chae (Choi Eun-hee), who teaches Korean Hangul to provincial children in defiance of the Japanese colonial authorities. The plot, a tragic love story, expressed Koreans’ desire for national self-determination after 40 years of Japanese domination. After vocational school, Chae and another student fall in love and decide to return to their rural hometowns to teach, only to be physically and psychologically defeated by local collaborationists. The movie, a propagandistic but potent adaptation of a famous independence novel of the 1930s, shows that hatred of Japanese colonialism was, in 1961, one of the few subjects that could unite the people of the North and the South in agreement. It was admired by both the South’s nationalist dictator Park Chung-hee, who seized power in a coup d’état while...

The Elevator Boys, a German boy band who surged to online popularity by early on posting dance videos on TikTok, have signed with CAA for representation.
The five members – Bene Schulz, Jacob Rott, Julien Brown, Luis Freitag, and Tim Schaecker – have become major recording artists and fashion tastemakers with over 45 million social media followers. In 2023, the Elevator Boys launched their music career by performing their first single, “Runaway,” at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 fans.
Another popular single, “Ruin Me,” was followed by the release of their EP, Scared to Love, via their own label in July 2024. The growth of their global fan base has help secure fashion house partnerships with brands like Gucci, Prada, Armani, Hublot, L’Oreal Paris and Rabanne Beauty.
That fashion world presence includes band member Rott making his runway debut last year as part of Versace’s fall/winter ‘24-‘25 show during the Milan Fashion Week.

Worse, there's no Tony Stark swooping in to mentor Spider-Man like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nope, this time Peter's sponsor is Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo).
Domingo is stealing the show as Norman. This Mr. Osborn is more outwardly likable and friendly than usual, but Domingo leaves just a twinge of menace in his performance to make us as suspicious as we probably should be. He hasn't done anything evil yet, but he's been using Peter to settle his...

The teen scene on Days of our Lives heated up once again on the December 31 episode. Tate and Sofia packed their bags and were about to run off to the abortion clinic, only for things to go sideways more than once. Now, Sophia’s mom is in the know and she has her own ideas for the future of her daughter’s pregnancy.
Change of Plans
A teen pregnancy is scary thing and it sure put the fear into Tate (Leo Howard)) and Sophia (Madelyn Kientz). Those two blue lines changed their world, and they weren’t sure how to deal with the consequences from their night of passion. A baby?! Neither of them are ready for that level of responsibility.
To their credit, the teens talked it out and made their decision. Terminating the pregnancy seemed like the best option all around, all things considered. They aren’t ready for parenting at all…...

Harlen Coben’s Missing You comes to Netflix at the very start of 2025 – and here’s the trailer for the new Netflix production.
The Harlan Coben thriller is quickly becoming its own subgenre. So far, 12 of his high-octane, twisty novels have made their way to the screen. Among the highlights, Tell No One was adapted into a terrific French film of the same name in 2006, directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Francois Cluzet and Kristen Scott Thomas.
On television, The Five, Safe, Innocent, Just One Look, No Second Chance, The Stranger, The Woods, Gone For Good, Stay Close, Hold Me Tight and – most recently – Fool Me Once have all been adapted variously for Channel 5 and Netflix. It’s thanks to the huge success of Fool Me Once, which landed on Netflix last Christmas, that two more adaptations were commissioned.

For once, a Harlan Coben Netflix series is staying in the good ol’ U-S of A.
Netflix has greenlit an eight-episode adaptation of American thriller/mystery-writer Coben’s novel “I Will Find You.” The Robert Hull-run limited series will mark Coben’s first Netflix adaptation set in the U.S.
“I Will Find You” sees a father serving life in prison after being convicted of murdering his own son. Here’s the deal though: Dad didn’t do it, and the son may still be alive — but not of that can be proven from the inside. Yes, tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak.
Coben will executive produce through his Final Twist Productions; John Weber also executive produces. As do Bryan Wynbrandt and Steven Lilien, who worked with Hull on NBC’s “Quantum Leap” remake.
Coben is one of the most prolific authors out there, and almost certainly Netflix’s number 1 novelist.

In 1975, George Kennedy starred in an unusual revenge thriller in which AI was used to catch the bad guys. A look back at The ‘Human’ Factor:
Revenge films and vigilantes were all over the place in the 1970s, whether it was Charles Bronson’s Paul Kersey gunning down crooks in Death Wish (1974) or Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle going on a rampage in Taxi Driver (1976). One of the more unusual thrillers of its type from the era, though, was The ‘Human’ Factor from 1975. For one thing, there’s its high-tech premise, in which George Kennedy’s protagonist uses cutting-edge technology to track down his enemies.
Kennedy plays John Kinsdale, a middle-aged, American computer expert stationed in Naples. Each day, he says goodbye to his picture-perfect Nuclear family – wife, two sons, a daughter with an outsized clown doll – and drives to his workplace at a nearby NATO base. There,...

There,...

Written and directed by Michael Crichton, the sci-fi thriller Runaway had its thunder stolen by another killer robot movie in 1984: The Terminator.
It’s a wonder what author and filmmaker Michael Crichton must have thought when Orion Pictures released its moderately low-budget sci-fi thriller The Terminator in cinemas in October 1984. Not just because of its parallels between Crichton’s 1973 film Westworld – right down to Yul Brynner’s implacable, gun-toting robot cowboy, which Arnold Schwarzenegger later admitted had influenced his performance. Rather, because young upstart filmmaker James Cameron completely stole Crichton’s thunder.
Less than two months later, in December 1984, Crichton’s own killer robot movie emerged in cinemas. Called Runaway, it cost a little more to make than The Terminator (Cameron’s debut cost about $6.4m; Crichton’s film cost $8m). But unlike the former, Runaway was a box office disappointment. The Terminator made almost $80m in cinemas alone,...

A new thriller series, “Missing You,” based on Harlan Coben’s best-selling book, will be available on Netflix in 2024. Rosalind Eleazar plays a detective whose past comes back to haunt her in the five-episode thriller that starts on January 1.
Eleazar plays Detective Kat Donovan, who is looking for missing people and finds her ex-boyfriend’s picture on a dating app. The finding hurts people again because he went missing without a trace 11 years ago.
The story is about Donovan’s search for information about the disappearance of her fiancé and the murder of her father, which has not been solved. She finds out truths that have been kept secret for years as she digs deeper.
The British version features many talented people from the UK. Ashley Walters, Richard Armitage, and Sir Lenny Henry play leading parts. Steve Pemberton, Jessica Plummer, Mary Malone, Lisa Faulkner, and James Nesbitt also appear in the movie.

However, the couple were seen together in Japan, debunking the allegations. The report about the TV series comes from an insider, who shared that Kim Kardashian and her mom Kris Jenner wouldn’t be too happy with this new move from West.

The 1980s were a genre-defining era for action movies. Countless iconic action franchises were started in this decade; Top Gun, Road House, The Terminator, as well as a handful of 007 movies, among many other instant classics. All of these films feature awesome heroes, intense conflicts, and, of course, plenty of high-energy action sequences.
Of course, not every '80s action flick received the same level of recognition as Die Hard or Lethal Weapon. However, even though they may not have broken box office records or won major awards, plenty of these films are still tons of fun to watch. The plots may be a bit cheesy, and the action may be over-the-top, but sometimes that's exactly the kind of movie audiences want to see. When looking for a new movie to watch, these '80s action movies promise to include all the fun, cheesy action audiences are dying to see.

“Show, don’t tell” is always great advice to filmmakers, but it usually refers to just what’s onscreen. It’s good advice for filmmakers during the pitching stage as well, as producers are looking for ever more details about the projects they’ll be investing in. Visualizing your film or TV project as much as you can in advance, giving as close an approximation as possible to what will be onscreen, has never been more important. And IndieWire has you covered with our “Pitch Your Project: Why Producers Now Expect More” panel at the Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles November 2.

Prime Video's Brothers is not the movie fans expect Josh Brolin or Peter Dinklage to make. The two actors are very much known for their serious roles in some of the biggest films and TV of all time. Academy Award nominee Brolin's credits include playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starring in Jonah Hex, while Dinklage is a fan-favorite from HBO's Game of Thrones and Tubi's grim Western The Thicket. So what possessed the two of them to make an outrageous comedy?
Cbr spoke to the two actors about how they'd wanted to work together on a project before Brothers. They also discussed why they wanted their first collaboration to be a comedy, and what they consider the highlights of the movie. Plus, why do they consider all of the characters in the film to be "extreme"?
Cbr: The two of you had wanted to find something to do together.

When people ask “where is the film industry going?”, they usually mean in general terms. Increasingly, though, that question centers literally on location: Where are film and TV productions shooting? Last week, FilmLA president Paul Audley sounded the alarm that there were even fewer shooting days in Los Angeles this summer than there were during the strike summer of 2023.
Audley will join IndieWire’s “Filming Outside Hollywood” panel at our Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles on November 2 to discuss that startling statistic and why productions have been not only leaving L.A. but also the U.S., and what it will take to lure them back.

Kanye West has been having a steady but painful fall from grace. Once, he had an empire and a golden age. However, recent months have found more and more people coming out of the woodwork and accusing the rapper of many things. The most recent name on this seemingly ever-growing list has been Lauren Pisciotta, a former Yeezy employee and ex-assistant to West.

What has raised many eyebrows is the severity of the accusations against the rapper. On top of claiming that West wanted to sleep with Bianca Censori’s mother, the former employee has also accused the singer of drugging and s*xually assaulting her.
Kanye West and Family Love?
Having been an assistant to Kanye West for a year, it can be assumed that Lauren Pisciotta got an insight into several aspects of the rapper’s life.

In its move to be more transparent with its subscribers, Netflix has released the third edition of its engagement report called What We Watched. While some titles became the hits everyone expected, some movies and television shows beat expectations.
Fool Me Once is the biggest surprise hit, as the limited series was the biggest title on the platform, Netflix's What We Watched report reveals. The thriller series is based on popular thriller author Harlan Coben's novel of the same name from 2016, and it follows the death of Maya's husband. However, Maya is shocked when she sees footage of her husband, Joe, who is presumed dead on her nanny cam, returning to their house as an intruder. Not only that, but it looks like Joe might be connected to the death of her sister, Claire.

Exclusive: Harlan Coben and Nicola Shindler have flagged a “shared vision” and “hybrid British-American sensibilities” as leading to the success of Fool Me Once, Netflix’s most-watched show in the first half of this year.
The showrunner-producer pair chatted to Deadline in advance of the latest data dump, which saw their fourth Netflix UK Coben adaptation top the charts with more than 100 million views in the first half of this year. And it’s been a good day for the Brits, with Bridgerton, Baby Reindeer and The Gentlemen backing up Fool Me Once in the top four and One Day also making the top 10. Ted Sarandos was in London earlier this week trumpeting the Brits’ success.
With the show having launched nearly a year ago, Coben cited a “shared vision” between himself, Shindler, writer Danny Brocklehurst, producer Richard Fee and Netflix as contributing to its runaway success.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of the first MTV Video Music Awards, a milestone that’s somewhat blunted by the realization that this isn’t your mother’s VMAs. The network handed over the reins to viewers beginning in 2006, letting them pick the winners in all of the main categories. And in recent years, the VMAs have moved even further away from the “video” designation of its name, doling out moonmen for Song of the Year and Song of the Summer.
One thing that hasn’t changed about the VMAs, however, is the opportunity for show-stopping performances, something MTV acknowledged this year with a new Most Iconic Performance category. The winner in that race, Katy Perry, was also bestowed with the semi-annual Video Vanguard award. “I always had a curiosity of what it would be like to work as a solo artist and create my own music and do my own stage performance, and that curiosity kind of developed into a certain level of passion for it,” Tzuyu explains through a translator on Zoom with The Hollywood Reporter.

Star Trek: Prodigy is conspicuously missing from Star Trek Day 2024 plans, but true Star Trek fans will still celebrate the heroic crew of the USS Protostar. Star Trek Day is annually commemorated on September 8th to mark the 1966 premiere of Star Trek: The Original Series. Star Trek Day has become a Paramount+ tradition to honor and promote the Star Trek franchise. Although Paramount+ hasn't held an in-person gala event since 2022, Star Trek Day 2024 will be a charitable affair spanning the whole franchise on Paramount+ - which doesn't include Star Trek: Prodigy.
Paramount+'s Star Trek Day 2024 plan centers on "Take The Chair, Make An Impact," a global social initiative where Star Trek asks fans to live by Star Trek's values, with activations in three cities, Vancouver, Berlin, and Chicago, where fans can sit in the iconic USS Enterprise Captain's chair. In addition to charitable donations to nonprofits DoSomething.org,...

Star Trek Day 2024 launches "Take The Chair, Make An Impact," a global campaign to commemorate the premiere of Star Trek: The Original Series on September 8, 1966. Star Trek has partnered and will donate to three nonprofits that embody the values of the franchise: Code.org, giving every K-12 student the opportunity to learn computer science; DoSomething.org, fueling young people to change the world; and Outright International, advocating for Lgbtiq inclusion and equality globally. 25% of sales of select items at the official Star Trek shop will benefit these three organizations.

After weeks of private conversations with Kanye West, who lost many of his lucrative deals following his anti-Semitic remarks in 2022, Donald Trump invited the rapper to his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. While this dinner was meant to be uneventful, in which Trump intended to lend some advice to Ye after his controversies, West wasn’t alone in visiting Trump at Mar-a-Lago club for a dinner.

Noah Wyle played Dr. John Carter for over a decade on ER, the popular medical drama series created by the late Michael Crichton. Wyle is set to return to the medical genre for The Pitt, a new series set to debut on Max sometime next year. However, Deadline reports that Crichton’s widow, Sherri, has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television, John Wells, Noah Wyle, R. Scott Gemmill, and others, alleging that The Pitt is nothing more than an unauthorized reboot of ER.
“‘The Pitt’ is ‘ER,’” states the lawsuit. “It’s not like ‘ER.’ It’s not kind of ‘ER.’ It’s not sort of ‘ER.’ It is ‘ER’ with the exact same executive producer, writer, star, production companies, studio and network as the planned ‘ER’ reboot.” There were reportedly plans for a proper ER reboot in 2020, with the studio in negotiations with Crichton’s estate for nearly...
