While the other streaming services set up recurring franchises, Hulu has opted to get a bit more experimental with its original offerings in August 2021.
Hulu’s list of new releases this month is highlighted by three original series concepts with promise. Reservation Dogs premieres on August 9. Co-created by Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), this story will follow four indigenous teenagers in Oklahoma as they stave off boredom and adulthood. Next up is Nine Perfect Strangers on August 18. This miniseries, based on a book of the same name, is produced by David E. Kelley and features staggering cast of Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Samara Weaving, and more.
Only Murders in the Building is likely the biggest thing to look forward to in August though. Premiering on August 31, this comedy stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as three true crime-obsessed friends who stumble into a true crime of their own.

If you had a childhood anything at all like mine, you’re well aware of the 1987 romance film, “Dirty Dancing.” Not because you’re obsessed with dance and/or Patrick Swayze, but only because your parents played the hell out of the film during your formative years. It’s one of those movies that some people just put on the TV as comfort food, bringing back nostalgia for a certain time in their life while also imagining what it might be like to have Patrick Swayze hold you over his head in triumph.

Patrick Swayze’s unusual star appeal helped make the supernatural romance the biggest hit of 1990 despite being resolutely unhip
American cinema has never had a star quite like Patrick Swayze, who now seems like a bridge between eras, redefining masculinity after an 80s dominated by brute-force heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and, to a much lesser extent, Chuck Norris. Jean-Claude Van Damme had some of his velvet-hammer appeal – the romantic coupling in Bloodsport was about showing off his body, not his girlfriend’s – but Swayze’s gentle, zen-like self-assurance was much rangier, unlimited to any one genre. It was not just the Catskills that were scandalized by his sexuality in Dirty Dancing, but the culture at large, and it kept slipping through even in male-oriented, adrenalized action fare like Roadhouse and Point Break.

The post-apocalyptic zombie comedy Zombieland from back in 2009 gave a refreshing take on the often overused undead trope, providing a miuch-needed dose of both horror and comedy in a world overrun by the walking dead. One of the movie's most memorable moments comes in the form of a surprise cameo by former Ghostbuster Bill Murray, but now, some script pages have emerged showing how this scene could have played out had the filmmaker's original choice taken on the role.
Due to screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick not being entirely certain that they would be able to get Murray for the cameo, they ended up developing many iterations with many different stars. One features the late, great, dirty dancing Patrick Swayze, and now that version of the script has been revealed in full.
